It’s always a joy to discover gems such as Château Chanteuse, a beautiful and historic home exuding French charm alongside a genuine sense of warmth. This is the perfect place to escape day-to-day life – unwind in the Limousin countryside whilst being within easy reach of Lac de Saint-Pardoux and the gorgeous city of Limoges.
Dating as far back as the 15th century, the surrounding scenery is glorious at Château Chanteuse and it is such a relaxing home to stay in. Downstairs you will find the pretty lounge, a traditional kitchen and a dining area with a cocktail bar (including a fridge and cocktail equipment!). Enjoy an evening apéritif on the terrace accompanied by birdsong followed an al-fresco feast on the lawn with loved ones. The French grounds feature shady trees as well as summer roses, foxgloves, irises, wildflowers and idyllic views.
The house sleeps up to 8 guests across its four first-floor double bedrooms. Guests can expect charming French furnishings and rich fabrics to remind you of a bygone era. Every bedroom features its own en suite shower room whilst two have their own little salons. The vistas through the characterful bedroom windows are wonderful – listen out for the gentle sound of owls or nightingales as you rest.
Set on a hillside, there are lovely walks straight from the château grounds. A village with a boulangerie is just 4km away or head to the small historic town of Bellac, around 15 minutes by car, with its delightful markets, historic lanes and peaceful riverside setting home to one of France’s oldest medieval stone bridges.
Take time to visit the historic villages of Le Dorat and Mortemart (one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’) and appreciate the natural beauty of Lac de Saint-Pardoux, less than half an hour away. This huge lake has sandy beaches, nature walks, cycling trails, mountain biking opportunities and summer activities including tree-top trails, zip lines, lake swimming and a range of seasonal watersports.
Visit Limoges early in your stay as you will yearn to return. Relatively off the tourist track yet famed for its fine Limoges porcelain, it is an amazing city with impressive architecture, vibrant food markets, inviting museums and galleries as well as the timeless narrow lanes of the captivating Quartier de la Boucherie.

Location
About the surrounding area of Chateau ChanteuseChâteau Chanteuse is in the Limousin countryside, part of the Haute-Vienne department and only half an hour from the pretty city of Limoges. Fly into Limoges Airport (22km) or arrive into Limoges’ elegant Art Nouveau train station with direct arrivals from Paris (Paris to Limoges takes 3 hours 30 minutes).
The house enjoys a rural setting yet with other buildings close by and just a 2-minute drive from the main road connecting Limoges and Bellac, meaning easy access to the many highlights of the region. The nearest village is 4km away, home to a bakery, whilst you will find a couple of restaurants and a small handful of other useful amenities (pharmacy, boulangerie-patisserie and small supermarket) in Nantiat (6km).
Bellac (14km) is a picturesque town with a rich heritage – it is a charming place to explore with its historic houses, pretty streets and trail leading down to the River Vincou. Walk over the stone bridge, said to be one of the oldest medieval bridges in France, and admire the peaceful setting – there is a characterful café-bar with a terrace overlooking the river. A market takes place on Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings – pick up delicious local produce for a riverside picnic. Furthermore, if staying in early July look out for long-established Le Festival National de Bellac for theatre and music concerts.
Other gems of the area include historic Mortemart (16km), classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, and Le Dorat (26km) an attractive village dating back to the 15th century, home to the much-admired Collegiale Saint-Pierre-de-Dorat.
It is less than half an hour to reach the shores of the magnificent Lac de Saint-Pardoux. There are various lakeside beaches and outdoor pursuits including cycling, mountain biking, nature walks, fitness trails, tennis and summer water-based activities such as boating, canoeing, kayaking, pedal boats, sailing and more. There is also a public swimming pool with slides and a tree-top activity centre with trails and ziplines (including over the lake!).
This is also such a fantastic location for visiting the beautiful city of Limoges (27km). Even though it is relatively off the tourist trail, the city is so loved for its historic centre with a warren of cobbled lanes, timbered houses, pretty shops and impressive architecture alongside its production of Limoges porcelain. Pottery enthusiasts should visit the modern French museum, Le Musée National Adrien Dubouché, whilst food-lovers will adore Limoges vibrant covered market hall and many excellent restaurants.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Lovely Country Home
Very glad I found this quiet and lovely country home for a two-night stay while we went shopping for some porcelain in Limoges. The room we had was huge and came with a big living room. The big and fluffy towels were a big plus and so were the two friendly cats on site. We had a wonderful dinner here one night prepared by the hosts. There is no need to find a hotel too close to Limoges when this place is only a 30-min drive into town and offers a much better value.

Again a lovely stay
Another return trip to the Chateau and once again the owners surpassed themselves. Everything was perfect and we were well looked after. The area is amazing and the piece and quiet is to die for. Listening to the owls at night was just magical. If you want a get away from it all place to be then it is here, you will not be disappointed. We look forward to another stay in the not too distant future.

We were sorry to leave.
Our overnight stop here was not long enough. We were warmly welcomed and provided with two excellent meals - a two course dinner and phenomenal generous breakfast. Rooms were spacious, spotlessly clean and well appropriated with a huge walk in shower and big comfortable bed. Lovely. We were sorry to leave.

Nice place with a fantastic view
Nice place with a fantastic view. We got to the chateau and we felt like getting to our house with the friendly hello from the owner. Breakfast was fantastic with fresh fruit, all kind of cheeses, eggs and good bread.

Wonderful night
We booked to stay at the Chateau last minute and it was the best night of our holiday! Price included breakfast which was fabulous, rooms were gorgeous and hosts so welcoming. We also had dinner which was outstanding. I cannot recommend this highly enough and we will definitely be coming back. It is also extremely good value for money.

What a wonderful property!
What a wonderful property! The owners gave us an amazing welcome and treated us like royalty. Nothing was too much trouble and they thought of everything to ensure our comfort and enjoyment. They cooked us a wonderful four course meal which was delicious and all freshly cooked using local and homegrown produce.
The room was clean, comfortable and enormous - the views are stunning and had we had more time we would have explored the local area... next time, because we will most definitely return.
The breakfast the owners prepared was amazing, beautifully presented and more than enough choice.
We truly loved staying in this wonderful home. Thank you for looking after us so well.... See you again soon!
