Pool Villa/House
Great Value
Ideal for Kids
Pets on Request

Set just outside a small village in the Lot countryside, this charming French holiday home welcomes up to 8 guests with its inviting interiors, characterful features and heated swimming pool. After a busy day exploring Rocamadour or Sarlat-la-Canéda, pour a glass of French Malbec and enjoy the beautiful sunset from the veranda.

This well-appointed home has glorious vistas over the rolling hills and woodland. Step inside and soak up the warm ambience across its attractive wood-beamed lounge, spacious kitchen and dining area. The owners have taken every care to ensure this air-conditioned abode has everything you could need to enjoy a relaxing stay in rural France, within easy reach of some of the region’s popular attractions.

In the main part of the house there are two good-sized bedrooms beneath the sloping ceilings upstairs, each one with an en suite bath or shower room. A separate annexe near the swimming pool has space for extra guests across a delightfully rustic loft en suite bedroom and a comfortable lounge with a good-sized sofa-bed.

Doors from the living room open on one side to the veranda for idyllic sunset views and on the other to the poolside terrace. With its shady parasols and covered dining terrace, you could spend hours soaking up the peaceful scenery as you gaze towards the hills.

Despite the rural setting, this is a great base for discovering the many highlights of the Lot and Dordogne regions. Rocamadour, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of France’s most visited destinations, is 18km by car whilst the historic Gouffre de Padirac is only a little further afield. Even closer to home are the honey-coloured houses of Gourdon and the fascinating caves near the Dordogne river at Lacave.

Indeed, the Dordogne region is also easily reached – in just over half an hour you could be canoeing along the river from Domme or admiring the exquisite beauty of La Roque-Gageac. Not to mention some of the Dordogne’s iconic grand châteaux as well as Les Jardins de Marqueyssac – look out for atmospheric summer evenings when you can visit the famous French gardens by candlelight!

Jaune D’Or is in the Lot department of France, around a 20-minute drive south of the Dordogne River and the riverside town of Souillac. This is also a great location for visiting the incredible Rocamadour (18km), a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The nearest airport is Brive-Souillac Airport (44km) or if arriving by ferry then Calais, Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo are between a six to eight hour drive.

The house is a short walk from a small rural village with traditional stone houses and a little church. The nearest amenities are around a 10-minute drive away in Payrac, home to a grocery store, bakery, petrol station and a couple of places to eat. Larger supermarkets and further restaurants can be found in and around Gourdon (13km) and Rocamadour (18km).

Rocamadour is of course a great highlight of the region with its spectacular cliffside setting, built over three levels with steep lanes and steps climbed by pilgrims on their knees (the ‘Great Staircase’). It’s a joy to explore as you come across important religious buildings, arched stone gates, the magnificent castle alongside charming restaurants, many with terraces and amazing views. Head out early – it’s one of France’s most visited destinations.

A little further afield, other attractions include Gouffre de Padirac (33km), fascinating caves explored on foot or by boat, alongside the limestone caves near the Dordogne River at Grottes de Lacave (13km). In the other direction, admire the characterful honey-coloured stone houses of Gourdon (13km).

Venturing into the Dordogne department, iconic riverside villages worth visiting include Domme (31km) and La Roque-Gageac (39km) or head to other famous sights such Château de Fénelon (22km), Château des Milandes (45km) and Les Jardins de Marqueyssac (43km). Meanwhile, Sarlat-la-Canéda (40km) is a superb day out, a must for history and food lovers alike.

Back to the Lot region, discover hikes across the impressive landscapes of the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park including the GR65 pilgrimage hiking trail. Enjoy canoeing and kayaking along the Dordogne and Lot rivers or soak up the artistic ambience in the picture-perfect village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (50km). Other pretty Lot villages slightly closer to home include Autoire (38km) and Loubressac (39km), both classified as two of France’s official ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

There are so many family-friendly activities to enjoy across this part of the Lot region, not far from the Dordogne border.

A day trip to Rocamadour will surely be on your itinerary – look out for the seasonal tourist road train to tour the incredible town. For a change of scene, perhaps combine with a visit to the Rocher des Aigles for owls, parrots and falconry displays whilst La Forêt des Singes, just the other side of Rocamadour, is another fun attraction where you can spot monkeys in a huge forest.

A little further afield, there is a large animal park near the market town of Gramat around half an hour away. The iconic Gouffre de Padirac (33km) is another highlight, best explored on foot or by boat, or you may prefer the fascinating Grottes de Lacave (13km) by the Dordogne River.

There are canoeing and kayaking opportunities along the Dordogne River near Floirac as well as boat trips near La Roque-Gageac, a glorious way to experience the beautiful surroundings of the Dordogne.

Reviews

  • Wonderful stay

    on 23/10/2023

We had a wonderful stay. The place, the hosts, the house and the surroundings were great. We enjoyed. Facilities in and around the house were perfect. The owners have taken care of everything neatly. And we were very satisfied with the completion and interim cleaning of the house and swimming pool. We lacked nothing. Thank you very much.

  • We had a perfect stay

    on 26/07/2023

Everything went well, beautiful, cosy and quiet house. The swimming pool was warm, very friendly owner who received us well. Thank you!

  • Fantastic

    on 26/06/2023

We had a great holiday, The house was, in a word, fantastic. Everything was provided and very clean.

  • Unforgettable holiday

    on 31/05/2023

It was an unforgettable holiday. We booked this week with one thought in mind, for us and the 2 daughters. And it delivered everything (and even more) than we expected. The house was so nice that staying 'at home' was sometimes more attractive than going out.

In addition to the thoughtful bottle of wine, some beers, soft drinks and ice cubes in the refrigerator, it was a very clean house. Nice to start your holiday this way.

  • Everything has been thought of!

    on 26/09/2022

We enjoyed 3 weeks of rest here. The house is beautifully situated, the sunsets are amazing.

We have been to France a lot and have rarely had such a well-furnished and clean house. The space was wonderful, tastefully decorated too.

The owners did everything they could to make the stay pleasant. Respect and compliments for this. Everything has really been thought of! We would like to recommend the house to everyone.

  • The most amazing week!

    on 16/08/2022

Wow! We stayed here for a week in August 2022 and it really was the most spectacular location. The villa itself was extremely well equipped, with all the pots, pans, cutlery and kitchen gadgets you could ever need, and the gas BBQ on the terrace was a breeze to cook on! The rooms were beautiful; we only used the main house, but the extra small outbuilding was also lovely and would be perfect if we were going on holiday with another couple or more adult children.

The owner of the property were helpful and gave us our own space, but we knew they were on the phone to ask questions and would be around if we needed them (we didn't, everything was great) because she lives in a nearby town.

We only had a few days off while we were there - we visited the incredible caves of Gouffre de Padirac (go first thing in the morning to beat the queues), the free-roaming monkeys at La Foret des Singes and the beautiful town of Rocamadour, all of which were less than 45 minutes from the villa and a very pleasant drive through the Dordogne Valley.

We didn't spend much time though, because the villa itself was so beautiful that we just wanted to stay there! The stars of the show for us were the incredible pool on the terrace, where you could practically reach out and touch the phenomenal view, and the veranda on the other side of the house where you could sit with a drink in the evening and watch the spectacular sunsets. It really was the most amazing week away and made us want to get up and move to France!
