Overview
Stay in a historic house with glorious views of the Périgord Noir countryside, a leisurely walk from Siorac-en-Périgord and the banks of the Dordogne. This is such a fantastic location for exploring the area with several ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ within a short drive.
Maison Anubis welcomes up to 8 guests across its comfortable interiors. We love the charming salon with its wood-beamed ceiling, classic furnishings and French windows opening out to a terrace with outdoor sofas facing the idyllic rural landscapes. The modern light-filled kitchen is spacious and brilliantly equipped, opening out to an al-fresco dining area and barbecue.
The ground floor is home to two double bedrooms, both furnished in a simple yet pretty style and each featuring a contemporary shower room. There are two further double en suite bedrooms upstairs beneath the characterful eaves, both more traditional in terms of décor, alongside a relaxing TV lounge.
The garden enjoys such a picturesque setting whether dining al-fresco or enjoying a glass of local wine as you admire the stunning landscapes beyond the large grounds. Stroll down to the swimming pool to cool off on warm days overlooking summer flowers, mature trees, lavender and even a couple of palm trees.
Stroll along the country road and within 1.5km you will find yourself in the attractive little village of Siorac-en-Périgord near the banks of the Dordogne, home to a handful of restaurants, shops, a lovely weekly market and a train station as well as canoeing opportunities by the river. Tee off at Golf de la Forge followed by a meal in the club’s restaurant or simply enjoy a picnic of Périgord delights by the riverside.
Where to explore next? Perhaps one of the gorgeous riverside villages within a short drive such as Limeuil, La Roque-Gageac and Domme or the bastide villages of Belvès and Monpazier – all are officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.
Keen gastronomes will wish to experience the markets and restaurants of Sarlat-la-Canéda, Bergerac and even Périgueux whilst historians of every age will no doubt be enchanted by grand châteaux, fascinating caves and the pre-historic sites of the Vézère valley.

Location
About the surrounding area of Maison AnubisSet in beautiful gardens, this traditional Dordogne house rental is a short walk from Siorac-en-Périgord in the heart of the Périgord Noir. Bergerac Airport is just under an hour away whilst there is a train station in the village with departures to Bordeaux, Bergerac, Sarlat, Périgueux and Agen.
It’s around 20 minutes (1.5km) to walk into Siorac-en-Périgord, strolling along a country road (no pavement until you reach the edge of the village). Siorac-en-Périgord is a great base for your stay in the Dordogne, close to the banks of the river for canoeing, kayaking and summer picnics on the town’s riverside beach where locals swim. It’s an attractive village itself with traditional old houses, a lovely market on a Wednesday morning as well as a handful of shops and restaurants. The village is also home to the 9-hole Golf de la Forge with its highly regarded restaurant.
In every direction there are so many highlights of the region. To the north is Les Eyzies (18km) and the pre-historic sites of the Vézère valley or head north-east to Sarlat-la-Canéda (28km), famous for its exquisite architecture and gastronomy with wonderful markets and restaurants.
What’s more, several of France’s official ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ are within a short drive such as Belvès (6km), Monpazier (22km), Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (16km), La Roque-Gageac (22km) and Domme (27km). Soak up the region’s rich heritage as you visit grand châteaux or bastide towns with historic ramparts, narrow lanes and atmospheric market squares. Look out for festivities, events and weekly markets (including night markets in the height of the summer where you can dine amongst locals accompanied by good wine and live music).
A little further afield, spend the day in the historic city of Périgueux (56km) loved for its grand cathedral, medieval quarter and excellent markets, just under an hour by car or train. Venturing west along the Dordogne River, perhaps stopping off at Limeuil (12km) or Trémolat (21km), Bergerac (45km) is a handsome historic town by the banks of the river with yet more beautiful architecture, gastronomic restaurants, wine-bars and boat trips along the Dordogne.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Best Suited For: All AgesSiorac-en-Périgord is a great base for families wishing to explore the Dordogne region and make the most of the wonderful activities across the area. It’s just a short distance to the banks of the Dordogne for seasonal canoeing and kayaking along summer picnics on riverside beaches.
Le Bugue (15km) is within a short drive, a small yet bustling town by the banks of the Vézère River where you will find various family-friendly attractions including Aquarium Périgord Noir, the charming old-fashioned theme park Le Parc du Bournat, Le Big Bird climbing challenge, Jungle Golf, a large maze and canoeing/kayaking along the Vézère.
Meanwhile, discover tree-top trails and nets at Le Bois des Lutins 24 (16km) or head to I Feel Wood (32km) near Sarlat, close to the much-loved animal park, Réserve Zoologique de Calviac (35km).
Then there’s the pre-historic sites of the Vézère valley including the fascinating village of Les Eyzies and the replica caves near Lascaux (Lascaux International Centre of Parietal Art).
Not to mention iconic grand châteaux, many overlooking the Dordogne River, some with activities taking place - Château de Bridoire (55km) is a definite family favourite, perhaps to be combined with a boat trip on a traditional gabarre vessel from Bergerac.
