Trémolat is a picturesque village that embodies the charm and serenity of rural France. With its stone cottages, meandering lanes, and captivating views over the Dordogne River, Trémolat is a haven for those seeking an authentic escape. Wander through the cobbled streets to discover a small handful of cafes, restaurants and little shops where local delicacies beckon.
A visit to the region isn’t complete without exploring its historic treasures. At the centre of Trémolat lies the Romanesque Church of St. Nicholas, a beautiful testament to medieval architecture. For history enthusiasts, the nearby Cadouin Abbey (13km), a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers a glimpse into centuries past with its exquisite cloisters and serene gardens.
For nature lovers, the surrounding Dordogne Valley is a paradise. Take to the river for a tranquil canoe trip, gliding past limestone cliffs and greenery. The stunning panoramic vista from the Cingle de Trémolat (2km), a dramatic bend in the Dordogne River, is not to be missed.
Food lovers will find this part of the Dordogne equally irresistible with dining experiences that celebrate the region’s rich culinary heritage, including the Michelin starred Le Vieux Logis in Trémolat. Across the Périgord Noir, savour dishes featuring foie gras, truffles, and duck, paired with exceptional wines from the nearby Bergerac vineyards. For a more casual experience, the local markets offer an abundance of seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheeses and duck based products – look out for atmospheric markets across villages and towns.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with famous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.
