Overview
Be surrounded by calming nature at this traditional French home in the upper Dordogne valley close to some of the region’s prettiest villages and only minutes from wonderful restaurants and markets as well as canoeing, kayaking and boat trips along the Dordogne.
In a rural hamlet perched above the Dordogne River, set in four hectares of meadows and woodland with grazing cows, you can truly relax during your stay at Maison Floral. There are six comfortable and good-sized bedrooms - the owner accepts a maximum of 8 guests so you can all make the most of the inviting space.
Sit back with family or friends in the living room, play snooker in the games lounge and prepare delicious meals in the well-equipped kitchen – regional specialities include cheese, truffles, chestnuts, walnuts, strawberries and other seasonal delights. There is such a warm and welcoming ambience with traditional yet comfortable furnishings. What’s more, updates have recently been made and the bedrooms have been redecorated by the house’s long-standing and dedicated owners.
It's a real treat to have your very own indoor swimming pool, housed in a barn-style annexe reached via glass doors from the garden. Relax on the sun loungers in the verdant garden, play badminton and boules, cook on the Weber barbecue and enjoy al-fresco meals. The rural landscapes surrounding the house are glorious with views over the valley and countryside.
The picture-perfect village of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne is less than 10 minutes away by car. By the river’s edge, explore its picturesque lanes in its historic centre and admire half-timbered houses, charming shops and riverside restaurants. It’s a popular spot for fishing enthusiasts and there are also opportunities for canoeing and kayaking. Gastronomes will adore the Wednesday morning market (and one on Monday evenings in the height of the summer) and note that there’s a Michelin starred restaurant in the next village.
To prove just how lovely this part of France is, there are several classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ within half an hour including Loubressac, Autoire, Curemonte and Collonges-la-Rouge. Rocamadour is another incredible highlight of the region, around 40 minutes by car, and even closer are the fascinating and famous Gouffre de Padirac.
Or simply explore the beauty of the upper Dordogne valley by boat – traditional gabarre vessels depart Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne for a short tour along one of France’s most famous and beautiful rivers.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

When did you become the owner? 1989
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with? My late husband bought the house on a weekend visit to the area in 1989. Over the years since it has been a home from home for our children and now theirs.
For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…
Must do? Canoe down the Dordogne and take a picnic.
Must eat? Local strawberries and the Perigord classics. Bonne Maman jams are produced in the town across the valley.
Must see? The many medieval villages which abound
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area? Having an indoor pool means you can swim whatever the weather. Drive or walk up into the hills behind the house and get the most wonderful views.
