Overview

Pool Villa/House Ideal for Kids Walk to Village

Maison Martinis is a characteristic and wonderfully restored holiday home surrounded by stunning countryside vistas and within walking distance of quaint and historic villages within France’s Dordogne region.

The quintessential French abode offers an appealing layout, allowing plenty of space for up to five guests. An open-plan living and dining area boasts classic wooden beams, chandeliers, and an abundance of light from the patio doors which open directly onto the luscious lawns. Find a spot to relax and overlook the scenic garden views, or socialise over coffee in the spacious and fully-equipped kitchen. When it’s time to retire for the day, you’ll find two double bedrooms on the same floor, with one offering an extra single bed and also a baby bed if needed.

Outside it’s all about lazy summer days playing on the large lawns and cooling off in the swimming pool while admiring the backdrop of rolling hills. Then there’s the table tennis for more family fun before an evening of barbecuing al-fresco and taking in the sunset views on the terrace with a glass of local wine in hand. Families with small children in tow can also rest easy knowing the large garden is fully-fenced.

The stone clad country villa provides all the amenities and commodities you need for a comfortable and memorable stay in the French countryside, but don't let the comfort of this pleasing home stop you from visiting the surrounding attractions.

Stroll through the alluring countryside to charming villages nearby, like Lavercantiere for a bite to eat or a game of family fun at the tennis court. The banks of the Dordogne river are easily reached for kayaking, fishing or swimming adventures. For those who want to venture further, take a day trip to nearby caves, castles, and national parks, or to the stunning city of Cahors, known for its deep red wine, elaborate gardens and the Pont Valentré, a medieval bridge with 3 towers.

As for basic amenities, the villages of Cazals and Salviac are a short distance away and offer a small supermarket, a bakery and a pharmacy, plus local cafes and restaurants.

Maison Martinis is ideally situated in the Lot department and Occitanie region, close to the Lot-Dordogne border and well-placed to visit some of this region’s most delightful towns and cities - Cahors, Rocamadour, Sarlat, and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie.

Guests can enjoy wonderful walks through the glorious countryside or hop on a bike to explore the many cycle routes. Of course, there is also the opportunity to canoe or kayak in the river Dordogne nearby, or the option to head to the town of Cazals where you will find a recreational lake with swimming and fishing possibilities.

For the nature lovers, excursions to the remarkable cave, Gouffre de Padirac, and the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park are definitely recommended. The Gouffre de Padirac is an astonishing cave system entered by boat to reveal enormous subterranean caverns whilst the Regional Park is a diverse, remarkably unspoilt landscape perfect for hiking, boating & caving.

Take a 10-minute drive meandering through the unspoiled valley to the nearby village of Cazals and feast on local produce from the markets. Or, you may prefer to drive a little further, around 40-minutes, south to the historic and attractive city of Cahors for its bustling markets occurring on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Be sure to visit the famous Pont Valentre, built in the 14th century as part of the defences of Cahors, whilst you are there.

Wine-lovers may also wish to spend time in and around Cahors as it’s known as the birthplace of Malbec wines from all over the world. There are a number of local vineyards to try the local wine, including Château de Chambert, Château de Haute-Serre and Clos Triguedina.

For more exploration of what The Lot has to offer, the lovely villages of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie and Rocamadour, which are listed among the most beautiful villages of France, are equally around an hour’s drive away.

With an array of remarkable landscape panoramas, dramatic gorges, slow moving rivers, numerous fortified towns largely unspoiled by the passage of time, the Dordogne and Lot regions of France are a delight to discover and explore.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Maison Martinis is a great base for families, with a spacious living area and large garden on site, as well as an array of activities to enjoy in the local area.

After a splash in the pool, the garden is an ideal setting for playing football, which can then be followed by a game of table tennis before setting in for the night in front of the home cinema set-up.

For other daytime activities, the surrounding countryside offers opportunities for long walks and cycle rides, as well as canoeing and kayaking along beautiful rivers.

For the adventure seekers, take a drive to one of the most remarkable caves in the Dordogne Valley, Gouffre de Padirac, and plunge into the depths of one of the largest chasms in Europe. With astonishing cave system can be entered by boat to reveal enormous subterranean caverns. There is no age restriction, even the youngest children will be fascinated. Be aware that there are around 200 steps in the visit, even if you do use the lifts. At the top, a 1930’s pavilion building features a snack bar and you don’t have to go far for a choice of ice-cream stands, bars, brasseries and restaurants.

Animal lovers will love meeting the monkeys at La Foret des Singes, near Rocamadour and around an hour's drive from Maison Martinis. The monkeys freely roam a large park, allowing visitors to get up close.

Further south is Happy Forest in Pont-du-Casse, which does what it says on the tin, providing a fun, woodland environment with aerial rides and activities above the treetops. For those with boundless energy, a trip to the Happy Forest is a must visit.

Had a fantastic week. Quiet area, very nice and clean house with a lovely swimming pool. Very nice and helpful owners. Highly recommended!

  • We will definitely go back again.

    on 10/06/2023

Once again a fantastic stay in the beautiful house Maison Martinis, just like 3 years ago, everything was fine again clean, tidy and everything you need is there, compliments to the owners. We will definitely go back again.

  • A wonderful place

    Created on 01/06/2023

What a great place, house and warm owners. This is really recommended. The house is fully equipped with very good beds. The welcome is warm and a lot is explained. The wifi is good and for lovers of TV or movies, you don't have to miss anything here. The pool is a good size and the outdoor shower is very nice. The car can go under the carport where a bbq and a gas grill plate can be found. The location is just outside the village and nice and quiet. Facilities such as supermarket and the bakery are a 10 to 15 minute drive away so it is doable. A nice trip is a visit to the caves of Padirac, but buy tickets online, because it is busy. This is a wonderful place to relax. In June the area is wonderfully green because there can sometimes be some rain. We enjoyed it here, worth returning, thanks.

  • Highly recommended for a perfect holiday!

We had a wonderful holiday in Maison Martinis! It was really excellent despite the weather not really cooperating for the first week. Fortunately we were there for two weeks and the last week was sunny!

The owners were incredibly nice, welcoming and enthusiastic. We are spoiled with French cheese, wine, fresh vegetables. It was beyond amazing.
We will definitely rent more from you.

What a wonderful holiday it was and the prospect of more such beautiful stays in the future makes us happy people.
