A grand villa with superb views towards Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Maison Modiano enjoys a wonderful location just a short walk from pretty Pujols, officially classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.

This elegantly furnished holiday home sleeps up to 8 adults and 2 children across its three doubles and children’s bedroom as well as an office which can be converted into a bedroom thanks to its sofa-bed. On the main floor, its living spaces are superb with a cosy lounge and stylish kitchen and dining room whilst doors open out to the balcony with glorious vistas. Meanwhile, families will love the table tennis and air-hockey in the garage’s games room.

When not gazing out towards the Lot River and beyond, there is ample room outside for al-fresco dining, making the most of the garden’s barbecue and summer kitchen, and lazing on the large terrace positioned just above the good-sized swimming pool. The sloping gardens and many trees add to the outdoor space and there is plenty of room for everyone.

Within a 10-minute walk you can be pottering around the heart of Pujols admiring the 16th century houses and gardens or dining in a village restaurant with tables and chairs spilling out to the square in warm summer months. Within a short drive, don’t miss the bustling twice-weekly market in nearby Villeneuve-sur-Lot, perfect for preparing picnics to enjoy by the banks of the Lot River.

As well as walking, cycling, canoeing and kayaking, there is plenty to keep all ages entertained in this glorious part of south-western France. Visit other idyllic villages such as Penne-d'Agenais, Monflanquin and Villeréal and look out for occasional night markets in the height of the summer when locals and tourists alike gather for fine food and good local wine often accompanied by live music.

Further afield, sample Agen prunes steeped in Armagnac, try the sweet wines of Château de Monbazillac or spend time in the beautiful and historic town of Cahors with a great reputation for its gastronomy and vineyards producing some of the finest Malbecs in the world.

Maison Modiano enjoys wonderful views towards Villeneuve-sur-Lot from its perched setting in the Lot-et-Garonne department, just on the edge of the tiny village of Pujols.

In a residential setting, you can wander up to the heart of historic Pujols in less than 1km. It’s such a pretty place to explore, home to a couple of well-regarded restaurants, some with tables and chairs on the village square in the summer months. Admire the village’s 16th century houses and charming gardens, then gaze at yet more glorious valley and river views from its hilltop setting. As one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ it’s a popular place for summer visitors so head out early to enjoy the village before the day-trippers arrive.

Down below, within a 5km drive, is the attractive riverside town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot. Art-lovers should spend time inside the former mill at Musée de Gajac, home to some impressive exhibitions, then wander over the 13th century bridge to appreciate the picturesque surroundings. There are plenty of shops in the town to potter around and the twice-weekly market is not to be missed. You can usually find canoeing and kayaking opportunities in and around Villeneuve-sur-Lot in the summer.

Elsewhere within a short drive, visit the wonderful Dâme de Peyragude basilica in the gorgeous riverside village of Penne-d'Agenais (13km), drive to atmospheric markets in beautiful bastide villages such as Monflanquin (25km) and Villeréal (37km) and look out for occasional night markets in local villages and towns in the height of the summer, a fine way to enjoy regional food and local wine usually accompanied by live music.

A little further afield, medieval Puy-l'Évêque (46km) is perched above the banks of the Lot River whilst the historic town of Cahors (72km) is well-known for its excellent gastronomy and wines. Heading south, the handsome town of Agen is merely half an hour away whilst some of the picture-perfect villages and market towns of the Gers can be reached in just over an hour such as Condom, Lectoure, Fourcès, Larressingle and Montréal.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

It’s lovely to be able to wander up to the heart of Pujols where you can admire its historic houses, pretty gardens and wonderful views of the Lot River and valley below. Back in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, a short drive away, there are canoeing and kayaking opportunities for older children and the impressive Musée de Gajac for art-lovers.

There are further watersports opportunities along the river near Castelmoron-sur-Lot and also at lakes within a short drive including Lac de Lougratte, usually open in the French school holidays for lakeside picnics, supervised swimming and canoe/pedalo hire, also home to a play area.

Animal enthusiasts may enjoy a trip to Z’Animoland, around 15 minutes in the car, perhaps combined with a visit to the caves at Grottes de Fontirou right next door to the zoo.

Heading south, the theme park Walygator Sud-Ouest is a popular family attraction near Agen whilst further north, close to the Dordogne department, Parc en Ciels features tree-top trails and more summer watersports on its lake (as with all watersports, check opening dates/times in advance).

Thanks for your mail. We had a wonderful time and are well rested. The environment was also super nice! The house was fine. By the way, there was a pool table.

  • Lovely stay!

    on 09/08/2022

We had a lovely and wonderful stay.

It is a beautiful villa with all the comfort we needed. We enjoyed the view and swimming pool, the pool table etc.

Thank you for everything and maybe till next time.

  • Thank you for the wonderful holiday!

    on 04/06/2022

I would like to thank you for the wonderful holiday, which is mainly due to the local guidance. This service is extraordinary and makes it a real vacation. In case of problems, a text message is sufficient and an immediate response is given.
Together with the children, we will look at what our next destination will be.

  • A very beautiful villa

    on 23/08/2020

Very beautiful villa, very comfortable and pleasant with a warm welcome. Very well located, with a dazzling panorama, close to a small medieval village and shops. A very good villa to remember.

  • A great villa for all the family

    on 11/08/2019

We had a lovely stay, the house was even better than we had anticipated! Couldn’t have asked for anymore, great accommodation for all the family and in such an amazing location, thank you so much! We really do hope to be back sometime, will start saving up now!

  • Our holiday was fantastic!

    on 08/08/2015

I just wanted to let everyone know that our holiday was fantastic! The house is beautiful with everything you could possibly want.

You really need to take just clothes as there is even toys (indoor and out) for the children.

The village is literally 2 minutes in the car and you could walk there if you fancy a walk. Lovely bars and markets. We are looking to return next year.

  • A lovely family holiday

    on 15/07/2014

    Thank you for the stay.

We had a lovely family holiday and the property was just as promised. We found the owner to be very friendly, and helpful, and the villa was kitted out really well if you have small children (even let our 3 year old keep a toy bus he had grown to love over the week which was very kind).

There were plenty of utensils and kitchen equipment, plus different seating options to enjoy meals alfresco and time by the pool. We would recommend this property! The local area was lovely too so a great position - it felt safe and secure. Thanks.
