Overview

Pool Villa/House Ideal for Kids Laptop Friendly Workspace All Bedrooms En-Suite Parking Space

Listen out for the gentle sounds of birds, frogs and crickets as you relax in the tranquil garden of Manoir Chabrol, a wonderfully converted historic home close to the pretty village of Trémolat and the banks of the Dordogne River.

Once a small farm in the 19th century, the owners have spent many years carefully renovating Manoir Chabrol. They have retained the original walls and roof, allowing it to exude typical Périgord character, and carefully selected other natural materials to create their perfect home. Modern comforts such as Wi-Fi, Smart TV, reversible air-conditioning and beautifully shuttered double glazed windows have also been added.

Step into the open-plan lounge and dining area, admire the travertine stone flooring, atmospheric lighting, designer furnishings and an impressive collection of books, not to mention state-of-the-art appliances in the perfectly equipped kitchen. This large space is filled with light from windows facing south, west and north whilst French doors lead out to the peaceful garden.

Sleeping up to four guests, both bedrooms feature oak flooring and en suite bathrooms with a travertine stone rain shower. Find a queen-size double in one of the bedrooms and a king-size double (which can be split into a twin) in the other, allowing flexible sleeping arrangements for two couples or a small family.

The heated swimming pool is surrounded by sun-loungers, parasols and such an idyllic garden whilst there is a mosaic table and Weber charcoal barbecue for relaxing al-fresco meals. Around the other side of the house, come across the decked terrace and deckchairs for views over the valley and the most glorious of sunsets. You may even spot deer or hares in the wonderful natural surroundings.

It’s only 2km to the historic village of Trémolat, close to the banks of the Dordogne, home to a handful of restaurants including the Michelin starred Le Vieux Logis. Just a little further is Limeuil where the Vézère and Dordogne converge, whilst the family-friendly town of Le Bugue is just over a 15-minute drive to the north.

Here you are so well based for visiting the very best of the Périgord Noir. Kayak or canoe along the Dordogne and Vézère rivers, discover traditional local villages on market day, visit the restaurants and vineyards of Bergerac, venture to the exquisite town of Sarlat-la-Canéda or you could even spend the day in Périgueux, a city of art, food and history and the capital of the Dordogne.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Closer to home, find seasonal mini-golf not far from the river in the local village of Trémolat.

There is further canoeing and kayaking along the Vézère River as well as several places aimed for families in and around the town of Le Bugue, just over a 15-minute drive away. Le Bois des Lutins 24 offers tree-top adventures whilst Parc Du Bournat is a theme park based on the re-creation of a 19th century village with charming fairground rides. Aquarium Périgord Noir is another attraction in Le Bugue, as are Jungle Golf and Le Big Bird amusement park.

  • Fabulous

    on 23/08/2023

Fabulous holiday home, well located to explore the Dordogne region. It’s contemporary with hi spec furnishings, comfy beds and the pool was a welcome addition on hot afternoons. One of the best properties we’ve stayed in, we will definitely return.

  • La sérénité

    on 08/08/2023

  • Beautiful modern home with original charm!

    on 20/07/2023

Had a great week staying here. The grounds and landscaping are wonderful. Lots of little areas to sit and relax and enjoy the scenery. The pool was always at the perfect temperature. Nighttime was equally as stunning as the garden can all be lit. The kitchen has every appliance and cooking utensil one might need and the home even has air conditioning! This was such a pleasure on the sweltering days. Can’t wait to return!

  • Lovely stay

    on 13/06/2023

The house is beautifully updated along with beautiful landscaping. The owner has put much thought into design details of house and landscaping. Everything worked perfectly, including the air conditioning and the pool was heated to just the right temperature. Location is very private and near a charming village.

  • 11 out of 10

    on 19/10/2022

Everything about this property and its location is of the highest quality. The owner's book of images shows the sympathetic development of the original building to its current excellent look and feel. Walkable to the nearby village with its quality bistro and pizzeria, and to a local boulangerie. We wanted a chillout holiday so stayed close the pool, however, Manoir Chabrol is ideally situated as a base to see a host of interesting places to visit. And talking of hosts...the owners were excellent. We will certainly want to return to this beautiful place.

  • Formidable !

    on 31/07/2022
