Region
One of France’s most visited destinations, Sarlat-la-Canéda is a beautiful medieval town with a superb reputation for its gastronomy. Staying near Sarlat allows you to experience the town’s rich heritage alongside its fine cuisine, whilst also being close to idyllic villages and natural scenery of the Périgord Noir, never far from the meandering Dordogne River.
Exquisitely restored, explore the old town with its warren of winding lanes with inviting shops, restaurants and characterful cafes. Take a guided tour to truly appreciate Sarlat’s rich history dating back to medieval and Renaissance times – the small yet attractive Cathédrale Saint-Sacerdos de Sarlat, once a Benedictine abbey, is one of the main highlights of the town.
Spend time learning all about the region’s gastronomy, best experienced at the traditional outdoor market on a Saturday or Wednesday morning. Local specialities are of course served in Sarlat’s many excellent restaurants or bought in little shops across the town – look out for foie-gras, truffles, honey, chestnuts and walnuts. There is also an organic market on Thursday afternoons and a charming covered market near the cathedral.
If staying in the height of the summer, join in one of the region’s marchés nocturnes in nearby villages where you can enjoy local food amongst locals accompanied by good wine and music.
Elsewhere, visit the grand châteaux of the Dordogne (Château des Milandes and Château de Beynac are both less than half an hour away from Sarlat), stroll around elegant gardens (Les Jardins de Marqueyssac by candlelight is especially atmospheric) and visit picture-perfect riverside villages such as La Roque-Gageac and Domme, both classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. Heading north instead, the famous caves of Lascaux are also within easy reach.
Hot air balloon rides are a great way to admire the landscapes of the Périgord Noir or simply canoe along the Dordogne River in glorious surroundings. There are of course wonderful walks, tree-top adventure centres and fantastic cycling routes including the 29km-long voie verte stretching from Sarlat to Cazoulès following a former railway line passing magnificent Dordogne countryside.

Lovely, peaceful setting.
We had a wonderful stay. The house is beautifully decorated and was the perfect size for us (2 couples traveling together).
We enjoyed visiting the local villages and being able to return to the home and relax by the pool as the surroundings are quite lovely and peaceful. Our husbands enjoyed the spa and sauna as well.
The home is located close to all the villages which made everything easily accessible and the caretakers were super easy to work with. -
Charming house!
Charming, classic French house with nice jacuzzi in a fabulous location. So much to do in the local area and a 5 minute drive to Sarlat.

Absolutely brilliant
Great place. Really well equipped. Super situation with a super garden and plenty of places to dine al fresco and a terrific BBQ. Pool was lovely. Lovely places to visit and dine close by. A pleasure to meet the delightful owners. For our party, 3 couples very good value. A most enjoyable holiday in a very beautiful part of the world.

Lovely place to unwind
Nice secure, private property on large plot behind electric gates with a great swimming pool. Weather was vv.hot so sauna was off and we didn’t bother with the hot tub. Covered area for playing pool or table tennis. Good BBQ was used every day and outdoor dining was a must. There was enough charcoal and citronella candles to get us started and we generally added to the store cupboard of olive oil, etc.. The local Leclerc in Sarlat was fabulous as were the dentist, doctor and pharmacist! We quickly got in to the habit of opening the pool cover and closing the house shutters in the mornings to have a warm pool and cool house. My daughter and her plus one used the downstairs annex while we 3 had the main house. We didn’t use the second kitchen but having a utility room with washing was really helpful. The house is well placed for day trips out to markets, canoeing etc. as well as lazy days by the pool with a book. It’s all well maintained, a chap popped round to check the pool and tidy the garden each week. We met the owners at the end of our stay – simply charming. Altogether highly recommended.

A delightful home from home
We have just returned from a lovely week at Les Cypres. We stayed there with our two grown up children, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The house was just as it appeared on the website, and Huguette was a delightful host. We couldn’t recommend it enough.

Fantastic villa in a perfect location
We had the most wonderful week at Les Cypres. Huguette was a charming host and so quick to respond when we needed her help. The villa is wonderful, a traditional French home full of antique furniture with lots of character. There are comfy beds, a good kitchen and fantastic showers. So many places to sit and eat, our favourite was the big table outside overlooking the pool and one night we enjoyed using the pretty bbq area. The highlight for us was the heated swimming pool surrounded by gorgeous flowers and trees. The water was fantastic and when we got chilly we relaxed in the perfect hot tub, such a luxury for us. We were lucky with warm weather so we didn’t use the sauna. What a brilliant location, near enough to Sarlat for the convenience of supermarkets but far enough to feel peaceful and tranquil. So close to the river for a fun day kayaking, a perfect way to see the sights. There was so much to do, we visited markets, caves, castles and gardens, the Dordogne is beautiful, this was our first visit and I’m sure we will return again.

Very comfortable & ideally located
We had an excellent holiday here. The owner’s welcome was warm and very useful. Throughout our stay, the owners were very willing and able to help us with any questions we had.
The location is perfect, the house is well equipped and the spa is a real treat. Unfortunately we couldn’t enjoy the swimming pool as the outside temperatures were a little too low for us to risk it (April time)! The surroundings are very calm with an enclosed garden which is ideal for the children.
The house is conveniently located, making visiting the surrounding area very easy. There are many sights worth visiting only 15 mins drive from the house. A little further is Lascaux, La Roque Saint Christophe, Les Eyzies etc (about 40mins).

Magnificent
The region is magnificent and the house is within easy reach of many tourist attractions suitable for all age groups. The house is lacking of nothing! We were warmly greeted and enjoyed the facilities, especially the Jacuzzi, sauna and swimming pool.
