Overview

Pool Villa/House Ideal for Kids

This is the type of place that guests return to year after year. There’s no surprise with its stunning views, welcoming ambience, glorious swimming pool and hillside setting within walking distance to a beautiful medieval village. All of this and you are only 30-minutes from the French Riviera.

Les Lauriers is a fantastic holiday home for so many reasons. Inside, the interiors are incredibly attractive with a charming country kitchen, elegant dining area and cosy lounge, all with doors leading to a perfect terrace with tremendous views. You’ll find three comfy bedrooms upstairs and one double downstairs, all with high quality linen, and across the home there are three smart bathrooms, two of them en suite. The owners have thought of everything with homely touches alongside high-quality furnishings and pretty décor. In a private setting, this is a fantastic home for all ages!

After wandering down to the local boulangerie in the morning, enjoy breakfast on the kitchen terrace looking out to the surrounding countryside. Steps lead up to the swimming pool on the upper level where you can gaze out towards the village’s medieval castle and admire the magnificent valley views as you laze in the sun, making the most of the villa’s south-facing position. As the evening approaches, relax on the upper terrace with an aperitif and watch the sun set for the day.

Discover some of the lovely restaurants in the village, reached in under a ten-minute walk (via country lanes) if you don’t mind the hilly walk back! It’s one of the Pays de Fayence’s nine perched villages; others include Montauroux, Fayence and beautiful Seillans where you can enjoy excellent restaurants, visit atmospheric markets and admire the spectacular scenery of this incredible region.

Walk along the shores of the stunning Lac de Saint-Cassien, a short drive away, or partake in summer watersports, horse-riding and mountain biking. Hike through the oak and pine forests so near, splash in the gorges of the Siagne river and play golf in one of the many golf courses across the French Riviera, including the prestigious Terre Blanche Golf Resort just a ten-minute drive away.

The beaches of the Côte d'Azur are just a 30-minute drive away with Cannes, Antibes and Nice ideal for coastal days out or head further inland to the Verdon Gorge, one of France’s most spectacular natural sights. This said, as so many guests declare, once you’re relaxing by the swimming pool at Les Lauriers, it becomes hard to venture too far with such wonderful views around you.

What you should know…

  • It’s worth noting there are steps to the swimming pool and some low walls and horizontal bars around the pool and terrace.
  • It's a steep driveway up to the house. When leaving by car, you reverse out of the drive and up a little, as it is a one-way system – once you have done it once you will soon become used to it!
  • Due to the hillside position, the 6-minute walk down to the village is uphill to return.
  • Air-conditioning is featured in the bedrooms only.

Les Lauriers is set in a wonderful hillside position just a short walk down the country lanes from one of the delightful perched villages of the Var department in southern France, just half an hour from the French Riviera.

It’s less than a ten-minute walk down the hill to the village (very much uphill on the way back!) or if you’re not so keen on the hilly surroundings then pop in the car and be there in a couple of minutes. This charming village with its medieval castle is perfect for picking up fresh croissants and bread in the morning or simply wandering down to one of the many restaurants in the evening. There’s also good choice of large supermarkets a short drive away.

This village is one of the nine perched villages of the Pays de Fayence; others include Montauroux with its Tuesday morning market and artisan craft studios, Fayence with its lovely restaurants, cafes and twice-weekly Farmer’s market and idyllic Seillans, classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. You can even follow the winding roads up to Mons, one of the highest villages in the Var department with incredible mountain and distant sea views.

Lac de Saint-Cassien (10km), around a 15-minute drive away, is a perfect spot for long hikes, horse-riding, picnics on lakeside beaches and summer watersports with canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards as well as fishing.

Those seeking other natural landscapes for outdoor activities should escape to the oak and pine forests covering so much of this area. Discover little gorges, waterfalls and stone bridges along the Siagne river as well as great cycling trails, bird-spotting opportunities and rock-climbing. Further afield, spend the day canoeing, white-water rafting or just admiring the amazing vistas when visiting the Verdon Gorge.

You are also close to the Mediterranean sea – visit some of the Cote D’Azur hot-spots such as Cannes (40km), Antibes (50km) and Nice (58km) or drive to some of the brilliant beaches near Théoule-sur-Mer (35km) or Saint-Raphaël (35km). Boat excursions depart Cannes as far as Saint-Tropez, Villefranche-sur-Mer or Villefranche-sur-Mer or take a ferry to the beautiful Île Sainte-Marguerite.

Golf lovers have the prestigious Terre Blanche Golf Resort just a ten-minute drive away (as well as many other golf courses across the French Riviera), there are tennis courts in the local village and the famous flying school in Fayence is also close by where you can book flight-excursions, a unique way to view the magnificent scenery of this region!

Region

Despite being renowned for its annual international film festival in May at the iconic Palais des Festivals, Cannes is not just a glamourous destination for the rich and famous. The attractive Côte d’Azur town is loved all year round for its palm-fringed beaches, upmarket shopping opportunities and wonderful restaurants as well as a certain French Riviera charm.

Stroll along Cannes’ iconic La Croisette boulevard following the footsteps of stars from years gone by as you admire prestigious hotels, luxurious boutiques and private beach clubs. Stop off for a cocktail as the sun sets and admire the twinkling lights across the bay. Even at night, La Croisette remains the vibrant heart of this bustling town.

Shop to your heart’s delight along the streets of the Carré d’Or district – come across hundreds of well-known stores along Rue d’Antibes. At the end of a busy day there’s a vast choice of restaurants to suit every taste and budget from authentic bistros spilling out on to the street to Michelin starred establishments.

Soak up the historic side of Cannes as you explore Le Suquet quarter’s medieval lanes passing little shops, atmospheric restaurants, flower-filled balconies and old fishermen’s houses. Climb to the top of the hill by Église Notre-Dame d'Espérance for stunning views of the harbour, followed by a visit to Château de la Castre and its popular museum. This part of Cannes is also home to the colourful Marché Forville showcasing the very best gourmet delights of Cannes and beyond.

Escape the crowds as you venture to Croix Des Gardes natural park with forest walking routes, botanical plants and glorious views across to the Lérins Islands. Look out for some fantastic boat trips from Cannes’ marina from whale and dolphin-watching excursions to family adventures on board a chartered yacht, sight-seeing ferries and romantic sun-set cruises.

Beyond the city centre, visit the ceramic studios and National Picasso Museum in Vallauris, follow Picasso’s footsteps in the enchanting hilltop village of Mougins (loved for its galleries and gastronomy) and appreciate the artistic vibe of Biot with beautiful views of the French Riviera. Chic Juan-les-Pins, so loved by Parisians in the summer, is home to beachside restaurants and more watersports whilst keen walkers will adore the incredible coastal trail around Cap d’Antibes.

In the other direction is the charming seaside village of Théoule-sur-Mer, backed by the dramatic Esterel massif, another paradise for hikers. By staying in one of our collection of handpicked rentals in Cannes you can experience all of this and more during your time on the glistening Côte d’Azur.

Owner Profile

How long have you owned the property?
Previously owned by an English couple for 20 years - excellently maintained with impeccable interior design. Sold to us with all contents, so we could just move in seamlessly.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
Its incredible ability to wrap itself around you and allow you to sink into its heart. The views are spectacular and sunsets with a glass of bubbles on the terrace just transports you to an amazing level of karma and relaxation. No window or terrace is overlooked and yet you are in the most beautiful medieval village of Callian with its wonderful chateau on the peak of the hill almost an enticing finger touch just below you. I love the spring with the wood smoke rising from the valley chimneys, the white cherry blossom and irises  both in the garden and down in the valley. The smell of the mimosa on the terraces and its majesty of deep yellow against the deep blue skies of spring in Provence looking up and back behind the house. The summer brings the shade around the front door bedecked with  wisteria and deep red hanging flowers that come in June and flower to November. Then it is the turn of the oleanders splashing their blousy over abundance of flowers throughout the summer all around the terraces of the house with the window boxes of white flowers all along the front of the house terrace.  Winter is a different blanket of warmth and security spent in front of the raised open log fire - too hot at times! Suppers inside but often breakfast and lunch on the sheltered kitchen terrace as temperatures over 20 C are not unusual. The village is decorated with lights over the road and in the trees for Christmas and the olive trees festooned in olives ready to be made into our very own oil! The house comes quite simply with a drug that draws you back time and time again.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?
Our parents owned a house in the area for 20 years which was sold in 2008, and which we adored. So, we are excited to start making our own history.

My father came out at Easter and was overjoyed - he felt he had come home after many years. The rest of our family came to the house shortly after and already our new story is unfolding.

Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
No just lovely normal people - but Picasso used to visit the house above!

For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…

Must do?/Must eat?/Must see?

They all come with wonderful intentions of doing so much but end up most of their stay at the house and on the terraces. Wonderful local restaurants from small bistros to Michelin Star standard. Huge amount to see and do from Chagall windows, local vine yards, Sea World, climbing in the tree canopies, local markets and a secret walk along the Siange with turquoise water and huge trout and rebuilt Hannibal’s bridge that he brought the elephants  over - a little exaggerated I think and without a SATNAV a little far from the alps!

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?

Definitely the walk along the River Siange - it is in an isolated ravine with steep steep sides where you see the village of Cesaire way up above and then you walk through the woods to get near the little river of gin clear quality.

  • A lovely house

    on 23/09/2024

The holiday was great, you have a lovely house with fabulous views, very relaxing time, found some good places to eat, would highly recommend it.

  • Wow - what a view!

    on 16/08/2022

After having to postpone this holiday twice it had a lot of expectation riding on it....and delivered in spades! The most wonderful thing is the fantastic view which can be seen from all parts of the interior and exterior - quite rare and much appreciated.
The home itself is beautifully appointed whilst having a warm and welcoming atmosphere with all the practical requirements thought-through. We loved the local village with its friendly shops and restaurants but also enjoyed some more 'special' meals out further afield - referring to the detailed and personal recommendations of the owner. The beds were all very comfortable with high quality linen. We barely left the villa all week - happy to soak up the views (and local wine) whilst eating delicious local organic produce and feel completely recharged after this much-anticipated holiday! Thank you:-)

  • Magnifique maison

    on 01/08/2022

Nous vous remercions pour cette magnifique maison dans laquelle nous emménagé en excellent état. Nous espérons l'avoir laissé en bon état également.

  • I must have taken a hundred photos of the view alone!

    on 05/10/2021

Now that we are back home I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at your home in Callian. What a beautiful setting...I must have taken a hundred photos of the view alone! The place was perfect for us and I truly appreciate the prompt handling of the hot water tank issues and grill, which we did end up using a couple of times.

  • A little slice of heaven

    on 08/01/2020

I have been lucky enough to have stayed in this most wonderful charming 3 bed room villa overlooking the medieval chateau in Callian for several years. It is the most blissful place and seems to have restorative powers!

The house is perfect for couples or two families, it is spacious and well-equipped and has various terraces to choose to dine from.

The swimming pool is perfect to have lots of fun and is a tranquil place to relax after a busy afternoon on the lake.

We were fortunate enough to rent the house for two weeks in summer 2019 and cannot wait to return this year.

It is so well located, with supermarkets and restaurants just a few minutes’ drive away.

The owners lovingly care for the property and are so helpful and welcoming. The house is scrupulously clean and is lovingly well maintained and has everything you could possibly require.

You will be assured of a wonderful happy holiday when you stay, it is a little slice of heaven.

  • The photos do not do it justice!

    on 29/11/2019

From the moment you arrive at Les Lauriers it will become your Sanctuary; the whole experience was totally amazing. The photos really do not do it justice, it's very difficult to capture serenity. The instructions received prior to our trip were so helpful, the directions got us straight to the door and while the villa is tucked away in the hillside, down a number of tiny lanes after a few trips out it was really easy to get to. The village is a walk away if you can manage hilly terrain, it will give you the exercise required to alleviate the guilt from the freshly baked croissants and bread from the bakery every morning or 2 minute drive in the car (well you are on holiday). The house book was packed with tips and ideas, this helped us plan our trip and avoid some well-advertised tourist spots at bad times.

The house is so beautiful, it is obvious that the owners have exceptional taste nothing has been over-looked. There was everything you could have possibly wanted - really large fridge with ice maker, extremely well-equipped kitchen, BBQ. We were there in late October and although the weather was beautiful during the day the evenings were a little chilly however that was not an issue as there was an open fire with plenty of wood- perfect for an evening around the fire with a bottle of Red and a deck of cards. The bedrooms were so tastefully decorated and the beds super comfortable - choice of showers or baths - home from home.

The outside space was equally magnificent, it was well thought-out with many terraces and eating areas which allowed you to enjoy the spectacular views. There was an area for everything, if you wanted to sit/lay in the sun and soak up the rays, shaded areas for relaxing and reading, breakfast terrace, lunch terrace afternoon tea, and most importantly sundowner terrace - the grounds are well maintained beautiful plants and flowers- we even got to pick out own tomatoes. There is a beautiful pool, sun loungers, umbrella for shade, as I say nothing has been overlooked.

This is a perfect location to relax and unwind, the views and tranquillity of the hilltop villa will help you have a holiday to remember. We enjoyed a few day trips to Cannes, Nice and Antibes but couldn't wait to get back to our spectacular hilltop retreat. We went to the villa in Late October (over half term) my grandson (4) and teenagers (14 & 16) there was something for everyone. We can't wait to return.

  • The house is immaculately designed and decorated

    on 25/08/2019

We have been lucky enough to visit Les Lauriers several times over the past decade. It has stunning views over the countryside leaving the patio as the perfect place for drinks or a leisurely cigar after a long and fattening lunch. The pool is just right for a cooling dip and loved by all the children that we have been with. The house is immaculately designed and decorated. Surrounding and easily accessible supermarkets ensure that we’ve always put on weight during our stay as have the local restaurants. The Lake St Cassian and its fresh water is much nicer and more refreshing than the salty sea. The nearby mountains have miles of great walks along fresh and clear flowing streams of the Préalps d’Azur.
