Set on a quiet country lane in the outstanding Var department of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, La Colline Du Soleil is only a short drive from some of the region’s loveliest hilltop villages and 40km from Cannes and the glamourous French Riviera.

Fayence (3km), less than a ten-minute drive away, has a good range of shops and many wonderful restaurants as well as a great market on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning where you can pick up all sorts of local produce from fresh fruit and vegetables to olive oil, cheese and herbs.

Another beautiful hilltop village, Seillans, is also just under ten-minutes away and an amazing place to visit with its steep medieval lanes and little squares. Classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, there are atmospheric cafes, ancient plane trees, pretty fountains and a delightful market on a Wednesday morning. Just outside the village, visit the enchanting Chapelle Notre-Dame de l'Ormeau with its 16th century altarpiece.

Other picturesque hilltop villages include Tourrettes, Callian, Montauroux, all within around twenty minutes by car. Further afield, discover other famous villages and towns of this region such as Grasse (30km), Mougins (42km), Valbonne (48km) and St Paul de Vence (62km). Pass landscapes of mesmerising Provençal countryside filled with olive groves, vineyards and forests.

You can reach the coast within about 45 minutes with the beaches of Cannes, Mandelieu-La-Napoule, Saint-Raphaël and Théoule-sur-Mer easily reached. A little further afield, you could even drive all the way to Saint-Tropez (70km) and its famous Pampelonne beach or in the other direction the beaches around Antibes (54km) and Juan-les-Pins are also wonderful. You’ll also find a great range of watersports along the coast and some lovely boat trips from Cannes, particularly out to the Mediterranean island of Île Sainte-Marguerite.

Closer to home, there are also some great watersports at Lac de Saint-Cassien, about a 20-minute drive away, as well as lakeside beaches, lovely restaurants, swimming, fishing and pedaloes. For further watersport adventures, drive to the famous Verdon Gorge around 80km away.

There is also a gliding centre only a short drive away for a unique experience during your stay.

Region

Fall in love with Grasse and its surrounding villages as you experience the Côte d’Azur hinterland staying in one of our handpicked villa rentals in and around Grasse. Pass lavender, jasmine, roses and flower farms as you drive into the hills of the Provence-Alpes-Maritime – no wonder Grasse is known as the ‘perfume capital of France’.

As well as the Museé International de la Parfumerie, visit the perfume houses of Galimard, Molinard and Fragonard for guided tours and even perfume-making workshops. Elsewhere, explore the historic winding lanes and come across artisan shops, café terraces and the impressive Rubens frescoes inside Cathédrale Notre-Dame du Puy de Grasse. There’s a lovely daily flower market at Place aux Aires whilst Place aux Herbes hosts the larger twice-weekly market on a Wednesday and Saturday morning.

A short drive from Grasse, encounter a wealth of picture-perfect villages and beautiful landscapes for walking, hiking, horse-riding and cycling. The perched village of Cabris is especially bucolic with incredible vistas over the Tanneron forest and Lac de Saint-Cassien. There are more glorious views from the small village of Spéracèdes with its pastel-coloured houses and olive trees.

Discover century-old hiking trails through the Siagne valley as well as pretty villages, ancient bridges and idyllic swimming spots. Visit the illuminated caves of stalagmites and stalactites just outside Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne before pottering around the authentic village admiring its fountains, café terraces and inviting food shops showcasing goats cheese, honey, olive oil and other products of the region.

South of Grasse, drive to the charming hilltop village of Opio, also famed for its olive oil, and don’t miss the Friday morning market in Valbonne, a very charming town dating back to the 16th century, home to a wonderful town square with pavement cafes and restaurants.

Golf lovers have a great choice of courses in the region including Golf du Claux Amic, once a 17th century hunting estate with stunning views and Golf Grande Bastide just south of Opio as well as prestigious courses close to Mougins and Cannes. As well as endless hiking trails across Grasse’s surroundings, other activities include a range of land and water-based activities in and around Lac de Saint-Cassien, only 15km from Grasse, as well as tree-top adventures and zip-lines with French Riviera views at Riviera Nature just north of the town.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
We fell in love with Fayence and the Var area over 25 years ago and it became our dream to own a holiday home in Fayence allowing us to gather family and friends from near and far. Our Provençal home is lovingly decorated and full of charm, offering a calming escape from the daily stresses that we all face. Setting foot on the property, we are able to refuel our energy levels whilst exploring the wonderful adventures in the area with our children. Finding a peaceful spot in the sun whilst enjoying the beautiful surroundings doesn’t get any better than this.

The villages of Fayence and neighbouring Seillans, Tourrettes, Callian and Montauroux are picturesque, hilltop villages with all amenities including cafés, bars and a wide selection of world-class dining experiences. Our village, Fayence, offers superb local market days each Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Go for a wander and soak up the local flavours; beautiful local fruit & vegetables, olive oils, cheese, herbs, and fabrics etc and end up having a delicious Provençal meal at one of the 22 restaurants that the village has to offer.

  • A wonderful holiday

    on 13/07/2024

We had a wonderful holiday at your villa. We really loved the location, and the terraces were just the perfect spot to relax and take in the stunning views across the valley. The pool was great, particularly as it was salt water and not chlorine, and the house was beautiful, cool and well appointed.
The property manager, Brett, was great. Very welcoming, helpful and responsive when I needed to get hold of him on a couple of occasions. I felt we were in good hands if we needed any help.
I wish we were still there, but sadly all good things come to an end! Thank you Tina for letting us use your beautiful home for our holiday.

  • A real gem!

    on 25/08/2023

Everything here is designed to make you feel good. Just choose your terrace to enjoy the magnificent view or the swimming pool (very popular during the heatwave)... On the practical side, nothing is missing and the house is furnished tastefully. Thank you Tina for opening your superb home to us and thank you Brett for your attentive and kind welcome.

  • Fantastic

    on 10/09/2022

Thank you! We have had a fantastic relaxing week in your magical French home.

  • Really great time

    on 27/08/2022

We had a really great time at the house, it was lovely. The kids spent almost the entire time in the pool and loved the pool noodles, sinkies, and water guns that were provided. Both the house and the views from it were beautiful and it was so nice to sit outside in the evenings with a cool glass of rosé and just relax. The property manager was a great help and we really liked him.

  • Great stay

    on 30/07/2022

We had a wonderful time at the villa and loved the area. Thank you.

  • Fell in love

    on 23/07/2022

We all fell in love with La Colline du Soleil almost upon arrival - the kids with Netflix and the swimming pool. Personally, I loved how well equipped the kitchen and pool area were and because of the heat, there were different areas to escape to. Obviously, the pool area is the hub of the house but I liked the long lazy fresh breakfasts from the bakery recommended where people could come and go at their leisure at the large table overlooking the valley.

  • Stunning views

    on 28/06/2022

Wonderful property with stunning views over the Fayence Valley. Great outdoor cooking options and massaging areas for lounging / dining alfresco.

  • A great week

    on 25/06/2022

We had a great week and enjoyed sunshine, peace and quiet and local produce.

  • All perfect

    on 11/06/2022

We are very sad to be leaving your beautiful home! We have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and celebrated my 60th birthday with my family! Great times in the pool with our lilos to late-night chats at the seating area! Simply stunning views and look forward to coming back! Thank you for everything and for sharing your home! We had a wonderful time. Right from the start with the meeting, to the villa and then the view; it was all perfect.

  • Beautiful home

    on 04/06/2022

We are so sad to be leaving your beautiful home. Our stay has been made so welcoming by your beautiful furnishings. The view is just awesome and a great place to stop and reflect. The pool has given us endless amounts of fun and laughter. We would love to return one day!

  • Fantastic views

    on 23/05/2022

We have been very happy to stay three lovely weeks in this beautiful house. Our family, who visited us along the way, were also very excited about the place. We think that the house was very complete, with really good and well-thought-out solutions. We loved the many nooks/places on the grounds for a relaxing time. The house is thus very liveable - also for a large family. The salt water pool was perfectly and very securely screened, and therefore we were very safe, even though we had small children with us and visiting. It is possible to do with outdoors both in the outdoor kitchen by the pool and in the lounge area closer to the house. The view is fantastic from all terraces. In addition, the people who service the house were very welcoming, nice and considerate. And there was a folder with lots of good information about the house and possible activities in the area. We will definitely visit this home again.

  • We had a wonderfully relaxing time.

    on 15/09/2019

The house is fabulous. Our only problem was deciding which coffee maker & BBQ to use next! Your recommendation Chez Hugo was also spot on. Thank you so much for your kindness and advice leading up to the holiday; we really appreciated it.

  • Tucked up high in the hills, this holiday retreat is beautiful both inside and out!

    on 06/07/2019

On the outside, an unparalleled view, tranquil surroundings, an impeccably clean pool, a fabulous outdoor kitchen and several entertaining spaces; perfect for pre-dinner drinks and group dining. On the inside, the owners provide a fully equipped kitchen (suitable for even the most demanding cook and entertainer), two high-end coffee machines to meet morning caffeine demands, stylish decor throughout, generous fluffy towels, reliable WIFI plus Netflix - great for young children in the heat of the day or adults for a lazy night in. Despite the secluded location, the local villages and supermarkets are less than a 10-minute drive and have a surfeit of good quality restaurants. Cannes and quieter riviera towns are only but a short trip. In the other direction lies hilltop villages, winding mountain roads above glacial lakes and for those prepared to make the trip, Alain Ducasse's home from home and exclusive restaurant and hideaway (advance booking a must (as is a dip in the glacial lake on the return route!).

  • If you choose to stay here you won’t be disappointed!

    on 15/06/2019

What a magical place, set on a beautiful wooded hillside, near a lovely village. The villa is a lovely, traditional looking dwelling and we found it very comfortable. We loved the gardens surrounding the villa with abundant oleanders, jasmine, lavender and succulents and the wilder areas on the terraces. The views down over the valley are simply breath taking and sitting on the front terrace before breakfast with a cuppa should not be missed. The trees around the villa offer lots of welcome shade, especially as the sun sinks to the west by the pool. We spent lots of time in the pool, very welcome as there was a heat wave during our holiday. At Tina’s suggestion the ladies of our group indulged in a couple of spa days with Debbie Cook expertly giving aromatherapy massage and reflexology which was so relaxing.
One can’t go to France without sampling the food and wine. We had some memorable lunches and dinners, the little restaurant down at Lac St Cassien, Le Pre’ Claou, Le Temps des Cerises in Fayence and the local glider club to name a few. We very much enjoyed an afternoon sampling the wine at Val D’Iris with Ludovic Vilcoq who is passionate about producing good quality wines.

  • A great place to stay and we highly recommend it!

    on 08/06/2019

We stayed at this beautiful get-away-from-it-all house for 5 days over Easter. At the end of the holiday, we felt as relaxed as we usually do after a two-week break! The scenery from the terrace is breath taking and you can feel tension ebbing away with every minute sitting outside. The house is very well equipped with quality bedding and towels and the decoration is chic and modern. There are some really superb restaurants within an easy drive.

  • We will be back next year!

    on 05/05/2019

We felt the Pike family needed to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at your lovely home. It is a great place to relax and recharge your battery. A lovely house with awesome views in a location that offers peace and quiet but with quick and easy access the Côte d’Azur. The immediate location offers excellent shopping options and we took advantage of the local markets, too. Good choices of restaurants were on offer. Great walking options and the large Lake you pass was revisited to walk around and get on the water. The house is gated, leading to a long drive and then the views were awesome. Tiered garden from the terrace at the front with mature olive trees and a happy fig tree, pool with pool house, BBQ and pizza oven; a lovely place to sit, sunbath and read, listening to bird song. A meadow to the rear is great for children to run and play in. To the side of the house, the terrace has large comfy furniture and a great BBQ kitchen. The views again across the valley to the hills beyond is super and sitting chatting with a local glass of wine was a pleasure we all enjoyed. You can see from the pictures how lovely the house is. It’s easy living with all you need to enjoy your holiday break and we honestly think, it suits families and couples alike. Once again Thank You!

  • We had a wonderful 2-week stay here!

    on 18/08/2018

The house is comfortable and very well equipped in a perfect, peaceful position with spectacular, far reaching views across the valley. The interiors are spotlessly clean, bedrooms with crisp bedding, bathrooms with plenty of fluffy towels and a fantastically equipped kitchen. The living areas were perfect for our party of seven, the absolute star of the show being the exterior space. Days and evenings were spent lounging by the sunny pool (with an excellent pool kitchen), sitting around the huge shaded dining table and chilling out on the comfy exterior sofas and chairs, all the while admiring the fabulous views. The weather was hot and sunny, and we were blown away by what a stunning part of the world we were in. Fayence is a beautiful little town with an abundance of great restaurants, and there are plenty of other pretty towns to visit in the area, Seillans and Mons just two within a short but fabulously scenic drive away. We had a great day on the nearby Lac de Saint-Cassien, with adults & kids all enjoying the huge inflatable course and pedalos, and another wonderful afternoon was spent at Les Gorges de Pennafort. There is so much to do in this beautiful area but relaxing at this lovely house seemed to take up most of our time! The property manager, Min, was incredibly friendly and helpful at all times during our stay and we would highly recommend this property.

  • The house is gorgeous and the view perfect!

    on 11/08/2018

We very much enjoyed Fayence and its market; there was plenty to do just there - although we roamed as far as Cannes, Nice, and Monaco. The outdoor table was perfect for all meals and there was plenty of space for the two families so that peace and quiet could be sought when required. Lovely pool - I was able to swim properly every day - I much preferred the saltwater to chemicals.

  • The house is a little piece of paradise!

    on 12/08/2017

We have now stayed twice and could not recommend it enough. The property is absolutely stunning and the lovely owners have put thought into every little detail. The house is beautifully decorated and those with a love for food will particularly appreciate a fully equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ. The place is perfect for several couples or for families with children who can enjoy the pool, large terrace and outdoor areas. The location is also perfect - less than an hour from Nice for easy connection to the rest of Europe, while also sufficiently close to Aix to Provence, St. Tropez, Antibes and other great locations for day trips. The lovely towns of Fayence and Seillans are only a few minutes away offering an excellent selection of restaurants, cute shops and weekly markets. We only hope to be fortunate to return again!

  • We very much enjoyed our stay at this property!

It was a most relaxing week in a very comfortable house with the most amazing and inspiring views over the Provençal countryside.
The more active amongst us enjoyed swimming in the beautiful saltwater pool; and walking or even running in the area, and we all loved the great restaurants recommended by you in the charming hilltop towns. Many thanks for a lovely stay.

  • We had a wonderful stay in your house on the hill!

It was very well-equipped, and the summer kitchen was a great hit. Thank you very much for the toys and highchairs – it really made things very easy with the twins.

  • We had such a wonderful and relaxing stay in your beautiful house!

The views were so lovely over the valley and a perfect setting for dinner every evening. The pool area was in constant use and the kitchen area was amazing to have. It was so handy to have the use of all of the baby toys. We have now just ordered a Jumperoo as Freddie loved it! Your property manager was lovely and gave some great recommendations for local restaurants and places to visit. The week though went far too quickly and we all wished we could stay on.

  • A lovely, peaceful house with a great pool and views to die for!

All located within walking distance of beautiful Fayence. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and do not hesitate to recommend this property to others.
