Pool Villa/House Ideal for Kids

Walk to Beach Laptop Friendly Workspace Parking Space

Stay in a historic villa which has been wonderfully renovated, set in vast grounds and in close proximity to a couple of remote bays on the Côte d'Azur between Carqueiranne and Toulon.

In the style of a classic ‘Bastide Aixoise’, this villa dates back to the 18th century and retains much of its old-world charm. Admire the unique tiles on the eastern side of the home which traditionally protected it from the wind in cooler months. Elsewhere, admire original fireplaces and floor tiling alongside traditional stone doorways, all adding to the historic ambience of this handsome abode.

La Bastide de Laura is a fine residence for a family or group of friends, sleeping up to 14 guests across its seven bedrooms, two of which are en suite. Downstairs the open plan living and dining space leads to the modern kitchen whilst characterfully arched windows look out towards the covered terrace. Outside, sit back on the terrace with a good book or stroll around the front of the house to look over towering pines - you may even catch a glimpse of Mont Coudon in the distance.

Set in a hectare of grounds, you are ideally positioned with the sea in one direction and the road connecting Toulon to Carqueiranne in the other. A 700m walk partially via steps will take you down to the nearest bay where you will be rewarded with a summer beachside restaurant. There’s a slightly longer bay further along, reached via a woodland hiking path, whilst the sandy shores of Toulon’s Plages du Mourillon are just over a 10-minute drive away.

La Bastide de Laura is located in the Var department of southern France, between the picturesque port of Carqueiranne and the maritime city of Toulon. Toulon Hyères Airport is a 13km drive away or arrive by TGV train into Toulon, 8km by car.

Set in a hectare of grounds, a pretty bay can be reached in around 700m, partly via steps, where there is a summer restaurant (book ahead) and pebbly shores. Another gorgeous bay is slightly further along, reached via a forest trail, perfect for beachside picnics, swimming and snorkelling. Keen walkers take note that there are some superb coastal hiking paths close by.

In the other direction from the villa, the main road connecting Toulon, Carqueiranne and Hyères (and also a cycling path) is around 200m away and there are plenty of local amenities reached within 2km in the little town/village where a small Farmer’s market takes place on a Friday morning. Stop off for a drink or bite to eat at the bustling town square with its terrace cafes, then admire the grand fountains by the Mairie.

The port of Carqueiranne (7km) is an attractive place for lunch out before walking to the small beach with its leaning pine trees, La Plage des Pins Penchés. Continue on to the Giens peninsula (16km), home to Plage de l'Almanarre, a popular place for kite-surfing, and the gentler beaches on the opposite side backed by the Étang des Pesquiers, a paradise for nature lovers. If you'd prefer head to Sanary-sur-Mer and Six-Fours-les-Plages for watersports, around half an hour away. Nearby you'll find the Janas forest which is fantastic for horse-riding, biking and hiking. On summer evenings, drive to Les Sablettes (17km) near La Seyne-sur-Mer, to experience the atmospheric markets by the beach.

Toulon (8km) is another great day out with its markets, restaurants and historic quarter. Enjoy a boat tour of the harbour or take the cable car up to the summit of Mont Faron for amazing views. The charming old town in Hyères (13km) is also worthy of a visit – soak up its authentic ambience.

In the other direction, it’s around a 60-minute drive to Saint-Tropez and the famous beach clubs of Plage de Pampelonne. Alternatively, another wonderful day out is the car-free island of Porquerolles, reached via ferry from La Tour Fondue (20km), where you can hire bikes to reach pristine beaches and discover the stunning scenery of this special island.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

It’s fantastic being able to stroll 700m to the beach, a small but very pretty bay with fine pebbly shores – as long as children can manage the access via many steps. The next beach, reached via a remote woodland trail, is also very beautiful and is slightly larger with crystal-clear water ideal for snorkelling. If children want to stay at the house, relax by the pool whilst they splash around for hours!

There are less remote beaches easily reached within a short drive. Toulon’s main city beach, Plage du Mourillon, is especially family-friendly and offers summer watersports and other family amusements. The Giens peninsula is another great spot whether you are seeking the windy shores of Plage de l'Almanarre, popular with kite-surfing enthusiasts, or the gentler beaches on the other side like Plage La Bergerie, also offering some summer watersports.

A day trip via ferry or boat taxi to the car-free island of Porquerolles will also allow you discover pristine beaches – hire bikes when you arrive, a great way to reach the beaches and discover the stunning island scenery.

The city of Toulon itself is a fine day out where you can learn all about the city’s maritime heritage by taking a boat tour, explore around the city via the little tourist road train or climb Mont Faron via the cable car.
