Overview
Le Coin Perdu is an authentic 18th century home with a rustic spirit and gorgeous swimming pool, tucked away in a remote setting in the Côte d’Azur hinterland yet less than half an hour from the glistening shores of Saint-Tropez Bay.
With accommodation for up to 12 guests across two stone houses and a centuries-old magnanerie, Le Coin Perdu’s unspoilt charm and distinctive character invite you to step back in time and experience the true essence of Provençal living where history meets tranquillity. Very thick stone walls keep the houses cool in summer and warm in winter.
The main stone house, spread over three floors, boasts an open-plan ground floor that centres on a time-honoured Provençal kitchen, a warm gathering spot where culinary delights are crafted. Relax in the living area with its fireplace, then come together for delicious meal on the shaded al-fresco terrace. The upper levels feature a light-filled lounge with Smart TV and three well-appointed bedrooms (one with an en suite, the other two sharing a Jack & Jill-style bathroom).
The fourth bedroom, with its king-size bed and private shower room, can be found upstairs in the former silkworm factory that is over 450 years old.
Finally, there’s the smaller second house featuring its own well-equipped kitchen and a living-dining area that opens onto a pleasant terrace sheltered by an ancient wisteria. Two double bedrooms on the first floor, each with en-suite facilities, ensure a restful haven.
Set within 4 hectares of grounds and encircled by national forest, Le Coin Perdu is perfectly located for wonderful walks, quiet reflection and star-gazing in the clear night sky. During the day you can follow tracks through the hills, barely passing another soul, or stay at home for long summer afternoons cooling off in the garden’s glorious swimming pool.
Not too far away, embrace the charm of La Garde Freinet and Grimaud with cobbled lanes, flower-filled houses, café terraces and delightful markets, both surrounded by the magnificent Maures hills. A little further afield, the allure of the French Riviera also beckons with Port Grimaud and Saint-Tropez for perfect days out, offering guests at Le Coin Perdu the ideal blend of peaceful retreat and vibrant coastal life.

What you should know…
- The six bedrooms can be found across two houses (semi-detached) and an annexe – please see the ‘Layout’ tab for further details.
- Le Coin Perdu is accessed via a 2.5km-long unmade track/dirt road with bumps along the way – it is not suitable for a low-slung car and needs to be taken slowly. Road works are taking place in April 2025 to improve the track so watch this space for updates (it will however remain a dirt road).
- The caretaker (and two friendly dogs) live in a separate house within the grounds of the property around 50m away from Le Coin Perdu (this house does not overlook the pool or lawned gardens).
- Guests of all ages need to be able to safely manage steps and different levels across both houses and the grounds (this home is not suitable for guests with restricted mobility).

When did you become the owner?
2004.
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
Its tranquillity, charm and authentic Provencal character surrounded by national forest. So you really are in the countryside and yet the buzz of St Tropez is just a stone's throw away.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
The Hameau is very old and was the midway point on the old road between Grimaud and La Garde Freinet. This road is no longer in use. Originally the Hameau existed on vines and silk. The Magnanerie, which is now the 4th bedroom for the main house, is a remnant from this era. We have a hidden spring, a 'source' - similar to that in the wonderful film 'Jean de Florette' and 'Manon de Source'.
Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
The producer of the movie Pretty Woman and his family. They came several times.
For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really...
Must do? Unwind, chill, soak up the tranquillity of the Hameau and know that you can venture out, at any time, to test the bright lights, restaurants, beaches within the bay of St Tropez. Visit the many markets in the area and star spot both in St Tropez and in the skies.
Must eat? The excellent cheeses, fresh moules and oysters bought from the Saturday market in Cogolin, and of course, the excellent regional rosé wine. Try the famous Tarte Tropezienne.
Must see? St Tropez and the famous beaches of Pampelonne. Explore the nearby hill-top villages of Grimaud, Ramatuelle, Gassin and La Garde Freinet. Port Grimaud is also well worth a visit as well as the citadel in St Tropez. The market in Place des Lices in St Tropez is also well worth a visit, if only for the people watching!
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
To avoid the inevitable traffic in the Summer, it is worth trying to move around when everyone else is still either eating breakfast or sitting down to lunch. If you need to shop - go early and you will beat the crowds. The same with the markets. They are delightful in the early morning... and by early, we are talking about 8:30. However, if you wish to go to the St Tropez market on either Tuesday or Saturday, we recommend leaving the Hameau no later than 8 a.m.
Popping over the border to Italy is not too difficult either. We can be in the market of Bordighera, a half-day market in the second village across the border, in an hour and a half.
