Overview
On the seafront and with a private heated swimming pool, Le Refuge du Pecheur, is a gem of a holiday villa situated on the north coast of the Giens peninsula, around 12km from the traditional French town of Hyères.
Formerly a fisherman’s house, this unique abode enjoys the most sensational views over the glistening sea towards the coast between Hyères and Toulon. The stylish open plan kitchen and dining space features windows that slide fully open to a decked terrace for al-fresco dining with amazing vistas and, on the other side, the inviting swimming pool which is perfect for cooling off on hot summer days.
In this wonderfully renovated villa, sleeping up to 8 guests, find four comfortable bedrooms across three floors. The highlight is surely the master double upstairs with its own sea-facing balcony and freestanding bath tub looking out towards the Mediterranean.
As you enjoy the grounds, find a shady spot beneath the trees for reading, play boules in the garden and make the most of the direct sea access with a private mooring, ideal for boats, kayaks or perhaps a paddle board, a wonderful way to tour the peninsula.
Stroll down the road to reach a marina and restaurant or wander towards the little village of Giens, home to further amenities including a Tuesday morning market. It’s a peninsula of such contrasts – on one day you could be kite-surfing along the much-loved Plage de l'Almanarre, then spotting pink flamingos across the salt marshes, the next day you could be paddling in the gentler shores of Plage La Bergerie or even hiking along some incredible coastal trails, coming across steep coves below.
Ferries and taxi boats depart La Tour Fondue for the idyllic island of Porquerolles, best explored by bike with its Caribbean-like beaches and landscapes of orchards, vineyards, olive groves, pines and eucalyptus trees.
Back to the mainland, the charming old quarter of Hyères is worthy of a visit with its markets, wine-bars and excellent restaurants, or potter along the coast coming across picture-perfect stop-offs such as Carqueiranne and the iconic Plage des Pins Penchés.

Location
About the surrounding area of Le Refuge du PecheurLe Refuge du Pecheur enjoys a seafront setting at the foot of the beautiful Giens peninsula, around 12km south of Hyères and a similar distance from Toulon Hyères Airport.
Along the north-facing coastline dotted with seafront villas, you can stroll to a little port and French restaurant within 500m whilst the tiny village of Giens with its restaurants, grocery store, bakery and Tuesday morning market is a 20-minute walk away.
Across the Giens peninsula, discover a wealth of watersports including kite-surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and more. A short drive to the north, the long sandy beach, Plage de l'Almanarre, is famous for its kite-surfing whilst there are gentler beaches on the other side such as Plage des Pesquiers and Plage La Bergerie offering shallower waters for families. Look out for pink flamingos in the salt marshes between the two sides of the peninsula.
To the south are little coves such as Plage de la Vignette and Plage des Darboussières, some more challenging to access than others. This part of the peninsula also features glorious coastal hiking trails for the most adventurous of visitors who will be rewarded with sensational vistas of the sea.
From the port at La Tour Fondue, ferries and private taxi boats depart to the idyllic Îles d'Hyères. Taking around 15 minutes by boat, the island of Porquerolles is a picture-perfect place for a day exploring its gorgeous landscapes and beaches. With virtually no vehicles on the island, hire bikes by the port and cycle along country lanes and trails passing vineyards, orchards, olive groves and forests of pine and eucalyptus trees. Find summer watersports and discover why some of the beaches are compared to those in the Caribbean.
Back to the mainland, the old quarter of Hyères (12km) is worthy of a visit with its flower-filled lanes, bustling markets, shops, wine-bars and restaurants. Families can seek shade in the attractive gardens at Parc Olbius Riquier with bamboo trees, animals and little road-train tours, one of four Jardins Remarquables scattered across the town.

A short distance to the north is Plage de l'Almanarre, much-loved by watersport enthusiasts with its windsurfing and kitesurfing. On the other side of the peninsula are beaches such as Plage La Bergerie with gentler, shallower water perfect for paddling, swimming and other water based activities. The salt marshes inbetween are home to a variety of birds including the occasional pink flamingo.
Families will also enjoy a day trip to the very beautiful Îles d'Hyères, reached by ferry or boat taxi from La Tour Fondue. The most popular is Porquerolles, a car-free island where you can hire bikes to explore its vineyards, orchards, pine forests and idyllic beaches which are often compared to those of the Caribbean.

Hyères itself is a charming town, especially its old quarter, and it is home to several parks including the picturesque and family-friendly Parc Olbius Riquier.
