Walk to Beach Walk to Village

This traditional French home enjoys a remarkable setting on the island of Porquerolles right by the water’s edge with its own jetty and views of the port. It’s a short cycle ride or leisurely stroll to the island’s only small town and one of Porquerolles’ most popular beaches.

It’s all about location here – enjoy al-fresco meals on your covered terrace then relax across the garden with a glass of local wine watching boats and ferries sail by. Considering its setting close to the town, it’s a privilege to have so much space around you across its large garden with towering pine and palm trees, Mediterranean plants and such gorgeous vistas of the bay. You have your very own jetty from where you can access the sea.

Inside, soak up the French charm across the characterful interiors. It feels like a genuine home with comfy sofas, artwork, old tiled floors alongside a modern kitchen. The main part of the residence is home to three spacious bedrooms upstairs, each with a private bathroom, as well as a terrace with more spectacular views of the port. Another two bedrooms, simpler in style, can be found in a different wing near the back of the house – they both benefit from air-conditioning.

Just on the edge of the tiny Porquerolles town, it’s around 20 minutes to walk to a small handful of restaurants and shops. Stop for a coffee on the village square where locals play boules and soak up the village ambience – it’s especially atmospheric in the evening once the summer day-trippers have returned to the mainland.

Elsewhere, the island offers an ideal blend of nature, relaxation and outdoor activities from its picturesque beaches with fine sand and crystal-clear sea to hiking paths and biking trails passing olive groves, eucalyptus trees, orchards and vines producing the island’s highly regarded wine – purchase a bottle of local Côtes de Provence rosé to enjoy on your terrace overlooking the bay.

What you should know…

  • There are three main bedrooms in the main part of the house and two further bedrooms that are simpler in style in a separate wing.
  • The two simpler bedrooms feature air-conditioning but the main part of the house doesn’t – the traditional walls are thick so this helps in the height of the summer.
  • With it’s waterside location and terraces, children should to be supervised very carefully.
  • For further guests, there is the possibility of adding three additional bedrooms to your booking (located at the back of the house) – please enquire for pricing.
  • There are virtually no cars on Porquerolles (with the odd exception) so visitors tend to explore the island by bike. Bike hire can be arranged in advance on request, as can private boat transfers from the mainland – please enquire.
  • Please note that published rates are only valid for the current year. Any bookings for subsequent years will be on request only and correct rates will be confirmed at the time of booking.
  • Please note that your booking will only be confirmed once we have checked availability with the owner or their property manager.

Paradis de L'île enjoys an enviable setting by the waterside with a private jetty and beautiful views towards the port. Sit out on your garden terrace and watch boats and ferries sail by in this privileged location on the Île de Porquerolles.

You reach the island by passenger ferry from various ports (depending on the season) including Toulon and La Tour Fondue (the nearest one to Toulon Hyères Airport). Cars are left on the mainland as the island is almost car-free – the main form of transport for visitor is bike.

Paradis de L'île is just a 20-minute walk or short cycle ride from the island’s only little town with its restaurants, grocery shop, bike hire shop and main port for arrivals from mainland France. Return to the mainland for larger supermarkets in the Hyères area.

The largest of the Hyères islands, Île de Porquerolles is a beautiful island offering a perfect blend of nature, relaxation, and outdoor activities for holidaymakers. One of the top things to do on the island is to explore its stunning beaches. Plage d'Argent (800m), one of the most famous on the island, is known for its fine sand and crystal-clear waters, ideal for swimming, sunbathing, or enjoying a peaceful picnic. You can also cycle to the quieter Plage de Notre-Dame (5km), surrounded by pine trees, which offers a more secluded atmosphere for those seeking tranquility and scenic views.

Follow hiking trails through the incredible landscapes – the island is a designated natural park, home to unique flora and fauna, and its paths lead to breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the azure-coloured sea. A hike up to the island’s highest point, the Fort Saint-Agathe, offers panoramic views of the entire island and the surrounding waters. Meanwhile, Fondation Carmignac (2.5km) is open seasonally with its collection of contemporary art and stunning gardens.

Alternatively, hop on your bike and follow well maintained routes past olive groves, eucalyptus trees, orchards and vineyards (the island produces excellent wine for you to try).

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages

Spend quality time as a family at this impressive house on the island of Porquerolles with stunning views of the port. With it’s waterside setting, children will need to be supervised at all times. There’s a private jetty and sea access.

Less than 1km away is Plage d'Argent, one of the island’s most popular beaches with its crystal-clear sea. On the other side of the little town is Plage de la Courtade (2.5km), another idyllic spot for swimming and snorkelling as well as seasonal watersports.

Bikes are the best way to explore the island – bike hire is possible near the marina around a 20-minute walk away. Hiring a boat and skipper is another great way to discover the landscapes, especially the rugged southern coastline.

Adventurous families will appreciate the many hiking opportunities across the small island or stay closer to home and walk up to Fort Sainte-Agathe for wonderful views, perhaps combined with a visit to the charmingly restored Provençal windmill, Moulin du Bonheur.
