Pool Modern Beach Nearby Ideal for Kids

Nestled in the hills of Grimaud, with glorious views of the gulf of Saint-Tropez, Le Nid D’Aigle is a welcoming holiday home with an authentic Mediterranean ambience and in the perfect location for exploring this enchanting part of the French Riviera.

The interiors are cool and contemporary yet there are warm touches throughout the impressive space. The open-plan living room features Pierre de Bourgogne floors and a stunning free-standing Travertine fireplace centred around modern yet relaxing furniture. The space is filled with light from the tall sliding windows opening up to beautiful terraces which wrap around the villa. Each of the four bedrooms has air-conditioning, two with their own patio overlooking the surrounding verdant landscapes.

Dine al-fresco under the bamboo-shade of the pretty loggia as you gaze out over woodland as far as the sea or simply relax by the dazzling swimming pool on warm summer afternoons. As the evening approaches, find a peaceful spot where you can chat with family and friends with a glass of local wine and listen to the sound of the crickets in the exotic landscaped gardens.

Indeed, this feels like a tranquil oasis yet you are only minutes from some of the most captivating places in the Côte d'Azur. The medieval hilltop village of Grimaud is a five-minute drive away where you can explore the flower-filled cobbled lanes, discovering excellent restaurants or simply admiring the amazing vistas towards the sea.

You can also be by the coast within a short drive with the beaches of Beauvallon so near or head further south to the glamourous beach clubs of Pampelonne beach, just twenty minutes by car. There is of course a wealth of activities from hiking to cycling, horse-riding to go-karts and some of the French Riviera’s finest golf courses nearby.

It goes without saying that there is a wide choice of watersports across the gulf as well as some fantastic diving schools and boat trips in the region. Fashionable Saint-Tropez is 12km away whilst more relaxed yet just as idyllic Provençal villages to visit include Ramatuelle, Gassin, and Bormes-les-Mimosas, set in the hills with mesmerising views.

That said, despite so many wonders of the Côte d'Azur, you may simply prefer to escape the bustle and just relax in the glorious surroundings of Le Nid D’Aigle with marvellous views towards the azure-blue seas.

Le Nid D’Aigle is set in the hills just a five-minute drive from the charming village of Grimaud, with far-reaching sea-views towards the gulf of St-Tropez.

The beaches of Beauvallon or Port Grimaud are only five to ten minutes by car or if you are searching for a little more glitz and glamour, head to the famous beach clubs along Pampelonne beach, a twenty-minute drive away, including the exclusive Club 55, popular with celebrities as well as visitors.

Nearby Grimaud (3km) is a medieval hilltop village with great views of the Saint-Tropez coastline. As well as flower-filled cobbled streets and ancient churches, the village offers traditional French boutiques, bars and a good range of restaurants from simple to high-end as well as a weekly antique market every Sunday.

Heading down towards the coast, Port Grimaud (6km), built in the latter half of the twentieth century, is mainly a traffic free zone with a great marina that can only be accessed by foot or boat. You can take a guided boat tour around the marina, spotting pretty coloured houses and Venetian style bridges, before enjoying a drink or meal in one of the marina’s cafes or restaurants.

The picturesque Provençal village of Cogolin (6km) is great for food shopping whether in the supermarket or the delightful market on a Wednesday and Saturday morning. Other great food shops to discover include La Halle de Grimaud (4km), a local organic grocery store and Tarte Tropezienne, a well-known bakery in the area (6km).

Not forgetting the fashionable and famous village of Saint-Tropez (12km), well-known for its winding medieval streets, traditional pastel-painted fishermen’s cottages, boutiques and restaurants and the port with fishing boats moored alongside luxurious yachts. In the summer months beat the traffic and drive down to Port Grimaud where you can take the ferry across to Saint-Tropez.

This is a fantastic region for outdoor activities from a choice of wonderful golf courses across the French Riviera, such as Beauvallon Golf Course (7.5km) to horseback riding in nearby Grimaud.

Families can look out for paintballing, go-karting, tennis clubs and water parks in the surrounding region, not to mention some amazing boat trips from Saint-Tropez from sightseeing along the coast to whale watching in the Mediterranean.

It goes without saying that you’ll find a great choice of watersports. From as far north as Sainte-Maxime to Pampelonne beach in the south, you’ll find jet-skiing, wakeboarding, parasailing, paddle-boarding and snorkelling. The gulf is also well known for its wreck dives and you can also learn to sail nearby.

There is also some great hiking across the region, along coastal paths or in the beautiful hinterlands. Cycling is also extremely popular with many marked trails to follow through the ever changing landscapes of this fascinating area.

As well as the magnificent coastline of sandy beaches and beautiful waters for swimming in, there are also some amazing unspoilt areas such as the six kilometres of La Croix Valmer coastline where you will find some stunning walks surrounded by diverse flora and fauna.

Furthermore, inland there are delightful Provençal villages to discover such as Ramatuelle, Gassin, and Bormes-les-Mimosas, set in the hills often with mesmerising views of both the hinterland and coast, making this arguably one of the most beautiful areas in France.

Region

Once a traditional fishing village, Saint-Tropez is now one of the most glamourous destinations of the Côte d’Azur and welcomes visitors from across the world.

However, there’s more to Saint-Tropez bay than exclusive beach clubs, glitzy boutiques and fine dining restaurants. From the family-friendly beaches of Sainte-Maxime to the vineyards of La Croix Valmer, Oliver’s Travels guests can truly admire this enchanting corner of the French Riviera whilst staying in one of our handpicked villas in and around Saint-Tropez.

Soak up the luxurious yet laidback vibe of Saint-Tropez as you wander around its marina lined with huge yachts contrasting colourful fishermen’s houses overlooking the bay. The old quarter is a warren of winding lanes with French designer boutiques, picturesque cafes and restaurants whilst Place des Lices hosts a vibrant Provençal market on a Tuesday and Saturday morning. Enjoy the most glorious vistas from Saint-Tropez’s 17th century citadel and maritime museum. Boat trips are another superb way to tour this part of the coast and passenger ferries cross the bay.

Just south of the town, follow Brigitte Bardot’s footsteps as you visit one of Plage de Pampelonne’s exclusive beach clubs, the most famous being Le Club 55 (always book well in advance). Stretching over 5km, Pampelonne’s long sandy beach is also loved for its vast range of summer watersports including jet-skiing, windsurfing and paddleboarding.

The picture-perfect villages of Saint-Tropez bay are beautifully located to make the most of the French Riviera scenery. On the hillside overlooking Plage de Pampelonne, Ramatuelle has attracted artists and writers over the years and is full of charm – look out for performances during its theatre and jazz festivals in the summer months. Meanwhile, hilltop Gassin is classified as one of France’s 'Plus Beaux Villages’ whilst flower-filled Grimaud is such a pretty medieval village with yet more stunning views of the coast.

Driving into the Maures hills, discover the characterful villages of La Garde-Freinet and Le Plan-de-la-Tour surrounded by oak and chestnut forests, a paradise for hikers, mountain bikers, horse-riding enthusiasts and other outdoor adventurists.

Back to the coast, take a boat tour of Port Grimaud, known as the ‘little Venice of the Côte d’Azur’, and experience its atmospheric Monday evening summer market. Across the other side of the bay, Sainte-Maxime is a lovely sheltered seaside town with pretty cafes, a daily market and gorgeous beaches. Families adore this area – there are tree-top adventures, tennis, mini-golf, a water park and coastal paths for biking and hiking.

Golf-lovers can appreciate a choice of courses – Golf Blue Green as well as the prestigious Beauvallon Golf Club and Golf Club Saint-Tropez. Wine connoisseurs should head to the wine châteaux of Saint-Tropez and Pampelonne as well as the vineyards of La Croix Valmer.

Not forgetting the idyllic shores of soft sand and crystal-clear sea of La Croix Valmer’s coastline from Plage de Sylvabelle to Plage de Gigaro, also home to a wonderful coastal walking trail with the most incredible flora and fauna alongside sensational views of the Mediterranean as you hike towards Cap Lardier and beyond.

Owner Profile

  • How long have you owned the property?

Since July 2021.

  • What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?

The house has an absolutely extraordinary architecture, which on the one hand picks up the Provencal architectural style, but on the other hand is classically modern and somewhat oriented towards the Bauhaus style. What we love about the house is how the inside and outside blend into each other. Added to this is the unique location of the house. You have a fantastic view of the bay of St. Tropez (the sea is only 3 kilometres away as the crow flies) and yet you are embedded in untouched nature. The view is not of villages or a landscape overrun with holiday villas (as is so often the case on the Cote d'Azur), but of a densely wooded Provencal hilly landscape.

  • Are there any interesting stories in its history?

Due to the exceptional location and architecture of the villa, several shootings for the advertising and film industry have already taken place here in the past.

  • Have you ever had any famous guests staying?

Not yet (except us! We have only been living in the house since 2021.)

  • For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…

- Must do?

Hike up through the oak woods directly behind the house and enjoy the fantastic view of the entire bay of St. Tropez again and again. In high season, drive to Pampelonne beach in the early evening and picnic there. Especially in spring, when it's not yet so hot: do the coastal walk behind St. Tropez (Cap Lardier / Cap Taillat). Especially with children: Visit the turtle village in Gonfaron.

- Must eat?

Lemon pie, Tarte meringue (to buy at the grocery store La Halle de Grimaud -10 minutes by car), Pizza under the pine trees at Pizz'arte St. Tropez.

- Must see?

There are so many places: Grimaud, Ramatuelle, St. Tropez (of course), watching the boules players in the evening on the Place de Lice, the jet-set spectacle in the evening at the harbour.

Reviews

  • Thank you so much – Brilliant!

    on 19/12/2018

For our family holiday last year we rented this secluded, quiet villa, a lovely comfortable well presented family home.
It was most enjoyable with exceptional gardens & a beautiful swimming pool where we all spent happy days by the infinity poolside overlooking the St Tropez Gulf with a dazzling display of yachts.
We enjoyed such excellent and impeccable facilities and have made a reservation to holiday next season staying in Le Nid D’Aigle.
