Wedding Venue Villa/House Modern Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach Walk to Village Laptop Friendly Workspace

Tucked away in the charming village of Loix on the Île de Ré, Domaine de La Tour offers a serene escape amidst natural beauty and historical allure. This 16th-century winery, lovingly restored over the past two years, blends modern comfort with beautiful ancient stone work. Entering the estate, you will be greeted by an enchanting inner courtyard, shaded by ancient linden trees, inviting you to unwind and soak in the atmosphere.

Stepping inside, the main house reveals its spacious and beautifully appointed interiors, having been sympathetically restored to keep the original features. The open-plan kitchen is a cook's dream, complete with a breakfast bar, dining table for twelve guests, and all the modern appliances you could need, including a Nespresso and De'Longhi coffee machine. Adjacent to the kitchen, the living room features a fireplace pit area, two large sofas, lounge chairs, and a sound system – perfect for relaxed evenings in.

The main house offers five bedrooms, each designed for comfort and style. Four of these are spacious en suite double bedrooms: three with king-sized beds, and one with a queen-sized bed. The fifth room features a foldable double bed, ideal for additional guests.

Just a short stroll from the main house, the annexe provides additional accommodation with two bedrooms – one with a king-size bed and the other with two singles. The annexe also boasts its own open-plan kitchen, a spacious living room with a fireplace, and a dining area.

The property spans over 4 acres, featuring a private car park, a tennis court, a rejuvenating sauna, and access to an orchard brimming with fig, pear, and plum trees.

Domaine de La Tour is located near the salt marshes and meadows, with no immediate neighbours and Loix port just 300m away. There is a super practical cycle path located right outside the house. Guests can enjoy walking directly from the house into the countryside, and exploring the nearby beaches.

Region

Vast beaches, cycling paths, salt marshes, kite-surfing, pretty villages and fine seafood - Île de Ré is a small island on France’s Atlantic coast with endless opportunities for every generation.

The island is easily reached via the 3km long bridge from the mainland, Pont de l'île de Ré, only minutes from La Rochelle Airport. If arriving by train, Gare La Rochelle is less than 3 hours from Paris-Montparnasse via TGV whilst the ferry ports of Saint-Malo, Caen-Ouistreham and Le Havre are easily reached by car.

Be charmed by the island’s main town, Saint-Martin-de-Ré, steeped in history with its half-timbered houses, flower-filled lanes and Vauban citadel – indeed, the fortifications are now a UNESCO World Heritage site (guided tours can be arranged). Come across some the best ice-cream on the island at La Martinière by the bustling harbour. Stroll up to Église Saint-Martin de Ré and admire the panoramic views from its historic belltower.

Other idyllic villages include La Flotte with its characterful market and Ars en Ré surrounded by salt marshes, both classified as two of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. There’s another great market at Le Bois Plage en Ré, a lovely little town with long sandy beaches, whilst Les Portes-en-Ré is another jewel of the island next to vast salt marshes and sandy shores. The 18-hole Golf de Trousse Chemise is just south of Les Portes-en-Ré and there is a superb cycling trail through the pine forest towards the iconic Phare des Baleines for more stunning views.

Indeed, the island is famous for its cycling routes thanks to dedicated trails through vineyards, forests and salt marshes. The island is a paradise for watersport enthusiasts with kite-surfing, jet-skiing and surfing in the ocean as well as canoeing, kayaking and paddle-boarding through the marshes, a fantastic way to appreciate the island’s diverse flora and fauna.

Île de Ré’s gastronomy is also to be celebrated – discover seasonal delights such as the island’s highly regarded potatoes, cheese, samphire, honey, shellfish and of course a range of natural salt products. Since the 13th century the island has cultivated vines and there are some excellent wines to try. Finally, don’t miss experiencing the oyster huts dotted across the island, often accompanied by a glass of chilled white wine of course.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages

The property's closed courtyard makes this an extra secure location for children. The large grounds include an orchard with fig, pear, and plum trees, where kids can enjoy picking fresh fruits. With a private tennis court on-site, families can play friendly matches or introduce the children to the sport. The nearby salt marshes and meadows offer fantastic opportunities for nature walks and bird-watching, allowing kids to learn about the local wildlife and environment.

Just 1km from the sea, the location has easy access to the port and the beautiful beaches. There are many surf schools on the island, so there is no need to go far to take lessons. In the summer there are options for both children and adults to take courses, or just partake in one off private lessons.

Cycle paths are found in almost every part of the island, so cycling is a fun way to get around and explore!

Wow. Simply wow. I couldn't think of anywhere better than to have celebrated by 30th in this incredible, enchanting home. Thank you for helping us to build these memories - and another 10 people have fallen in love with this house. Many memories have been formed - from competitive tennis matches, to seafood apéro on the terrace at sunset, lavish dinners in the courtyard, and showers with a view. I could go on and on, but just want to say how grateful I am to have spent a week here. I cannot wait to be back. I am sad to say goodbye to the house!
