On the outskirts of a residential area, Villa Lafleur, a contemporary, 4-bedroom property is equidistant from both the vibrant island capital of Saint Martin de Ré, and the ever-popular beach resorts of Plage de Gros Joncs and Le Bois Plage en Ré.
A spacious and recently refurbished (2021) home that’s retained all its original charm - Villa Lafleur’s whitewashed walls and green shutters are emblematic of the island’s architectural style – with all the comforts of a modern family home. An open-plan living space is home to a comfortable egg chair suspended from the vaulted ceiling and a large dining table that can seat the whole group. Whip up some delicious home-made ice cream with the ice cream maker in the kitchen!
You’ll also find the master bedroom on the ground floor with an en-suite featuring a walk-in shower and washbasin, along with a separate WC room. Another two double bedrooms are found on the upper storey, along with a bunk bed room (please don’t fight over the top bunk!) and the villa’s main bathroom, which features a bathtub with overhead shower and washbasin.
This modernised villa has a superb finish throughout, with its garden being no exception. The immaculately landscaped garden keeps everything at ground level, with steps leading to the 5-person Jacuzzi at the side of the lawn. You’ll have a shaded dining area if you fancy preparing some delicious, fresh seafood on the plancha, along with comfortable seats and sun loungers. Ideally located, ten minutes on a bicycle is all that stands between you and the glorious beaches of Le Bois Plage en Ré, with fresh seafood, sandy beaches and all the relaxation you can manage!

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa LafleurOne of the main attractions of a break on this magical island is the prospect of a near-complete break from driving, while still being able to explore some wonderful landscapes and seascapes. You will have no problem finding a cycle hire shop in Saint-Martin-de-Ré (2km), so getting around on two wheels will be no problem.
The island has over sixty miles of dedicated cycle tracks, which are also accessible to the island’s fleet of Tuk-Tuks. Explore hidden gems like spectacular salt marshes, the very best oyster shacks and, of course, where to find delicious ice cream! Many of the island’s Tuk-Tuk passengers have alighted at Saint Martin quay, ready to sample the exquisite gelatos and frozen macarons at La Martinière. With mango and ginger, oyster and potato flavoured ice creams amongst others, there’s no shortage of choice either.
Saint-Martin-de-Ré, island ‘capital’ of the destination known as the ‘Hamptons of France’, is home to exclusive boutiques, Michelin-starred restaurants, centuries-old architecture and yachts on the marina. Browse the stores, sample delicious local cuisine, or just sit with a fresh coffee while taking in the scenery of this delightful harbour village.

Region
Vast beaches, cycling paths, salt marshes, kite-surfing, pretty villages and fine seafood - Île de Ré is a small island on France’s Atlantic coast with endless opportunities for every generation.
The island is easily reached via the 3km long bridge from the mainland, Pont de l'île de Ré, only minutes from La Rochelle Airport. If arriving by train, Gare La Rochelle is less than 3 hours from Paris-Montparnasse via TGV whilst the ferry ports of Saint-Malo, Caen-Ouistreham and Le Havre are easily reached by car.
Be charmed by the island’s main town, Saint-Martin-de-Ré, steeped in history with its half-timbered houses, flower-filled lanes and Vauban citadel – indeed, the fortifications are now a UNESCO World Heritage site (guided tours can be arranged). Come across some the best ice-cream on the island at La Martinière by the bustling harbour. Stroll up to Église Saint-Martin de Ré and admire the panoramic views from its historic belltower.
Other idyllic villages include La Flotte with its characterful market and Ars en Ré surrounded by salt marshes, both classified as two of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. There’s another great market at Le Bois Plage en Ré, a lovely little town with long sandy beaches, whilst Les Portes-en-Ré is another jewel of the island next to vast salt marshes and sandy shores. The 18-hole Golf de Trousse Chemise is just south of Les Portes-en-Ré and there is a superb cycling trail through the pine forest towards the iconic Phare des Baleines for more stunning views.
Indeed, the island is famous for its cycling routes thanks to dedicated trails through vineyards, forests and salt marshes. The island is a paradise for watersport enthusiasts with kite-surfing, jet-skiing and surfing in the ocean as well as canoeing, kayaking and paddle-boarding through the marshes, a fantastic way to appreciate the island’s diverse flora and fauna.
Île de Ré’s gastronomy is also to be celebrated – discover seasonal delights such as the island’s highly regarded potatoes, cheese, samphire, honey, shellfish and of course a range of natural salt products. Since the 13th century the island has cultivated vines and there are some excellent wines to try. Finally, don’t miss experiencing the oyster huts dotted across the island, often accompanied by a glass of chilled white wine of course.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesChildren will love the fast access to this villa’s heated garden pool, whilst there’s Wi-Fi throughout and a television in the lounge – ideal for winding down after a day at the coast. As well as the bunk bed room that’s ideal for children, a baby cot is provided for smaller guests arriving at Villa Lafleur.
You’ll find plenty to do at the seaside during your stay, with activities ranging from bodyboarding and stand-up paddle boarding, to boat rides and fishing excursions the whole family will love. Try the superb indoor food market at Plage des Gollandières, then choose a picnic spot on golden sands under the shade of the tall pine trees.
The whole family can enjoy exploring the sights of Ile de Ré, with cycle hire outlets in Saint Martin de Ré leasing cycles of all types and sizes, from E-Bikes to beach cruisers.
For more adventure, head to the Parc de l'Aerodrome in La Rochelle, which features playgrounds and picnic areas, or visit the aquarium in La Rochelle for an engaging underwater experience.
