Overview
Manoir Belle Époque is a beautiful Maison de Maître originally built in the 1830s by a wealthy wine and brandy producer, as a symbol of his affluence during this opulent era.
It is now lovingly restored and decorated by its owners, talented interior designers who have turned it into a large, boutique-style modern home with plenty of original character, perfect for multi-generational families and groups of friends.
The position is semi-rural but on the edge of a lively village surrounded by sunflowers and vineyards, with a grocery shop, bakers, butchers, bar, pizza restaurant, post office and pharmacy – all just a 5-minute walk away. There is even a park with children's' slides and swings, all within pram pushing distance!
Just a 5-minute drive away is the Canal du Midi at Ventenac, with its good choice of restaurants and within easy reach are Lezignan-Corbieres and the Cathedral City of Narbonne and its high quality sandy beaches beyond. Carcassonne is just over half an hour away.
In keeping with the Belle Époque and this villa’s origins, this lovely home is designed for chilled out and good times for all, with a hint of elegant grandeur from times passed. A grand curved staircase and balustrade onto the front balcony and terrace compliment the indoor marble staircase and grand dining room.
A games room and ‘honesty wine cellar’ stocked with Languedoc wines, and a large garden full of fruit trees, hammocks, shady terraces and a big pool, keep everyone happy. There is even a fenced in shallow brook with small fish through the back garden, where you can try your luck with a line and hook or bucket.
Furthermore, guests will benefit from a fantastic cinema room for Netflix and sporting events with comfy sofas and even a fridge to chill your wine, plus complimentary air-conditioning can be requested in the grand dining room, the perfect spot for family feasts. A fun and exciting covered courtyard has also been created for al-fresco dining in style, named by the owners as the 'Winemakers Barn, Barbecue and Champagne Bar'!
Manoir Belle Époque will delight the senses and provide an idyllic location for a relaxing multi-generational holiday in the Languedoc.

Location
About the surrounding area of Manoir Belle EpoqueManoir Belle Epoque sits in a picturesque village nestled amongst the charming vineyards and sunflowers of the department of Aude in the heart of Languedoc. Here you will find boulangeries, butchers, a small grocery shop, a bar, pizzeria restaurant, post office, pharmacy, doctor's surgery, a park with children play area and even a vegetable market every Friday and Sunday mornings. Larger supermarkets are located in Lézignan Corbières (4km). In Ventenac there is a Wine Cave, perfect for getting to know the fabulous wines of the region.
The Canal du Midi is a few minutes' drive away. It offers some delicious restaurants and is a very popular area for outdoor activities lovers, with plenty of walking, biking and boat hiring options.
The imposing Corbières mountains where one can visit the fascinating Cathar castles, can be reached in just 10 minutes. Furthermore, the Mediterranean coast is a half hour journey, offering easy access to the beautiful beaches in Gruissan and Narbonne. When the beaches are too crowded, why not head to Homps and take a dip into the lake? It is a family-friendly option well serviced with a café, life guard and plenty of free parking.
Gruissan also has a pretty old town and a modern marina with a good choice of places to eat and drink. In Narbonne, the closest large town (15mins) and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one can take a stroll down its beautiful 'promenade', visit museums, explore its sparkling market place and relax in one one the many cafes and restaurants.
In 30 minutes you can reach the fortified town of Carcassonne, also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Deeply steeped in history, it is a lively citadel where myriads of events and festivals take place throughout the year.
A bit further afield is Pezenas, (about 1hr) a gorgeous medieval town with a wide selection of traditional shops, bars, restaurants and a Saturday market selling fresh local produce and clothing. In the Cote de Vermillon, we recommend visiting Collioure, nestled in a little cove and a paradise for art lovers.
Furthermore, bear in mind that the Spanish border is only about an hour away: Figueras and Cadaques are just two examples of coastal villages making for fabulous day trips out!
Finally, the property is served by 9 Airports: Carcasonne, Bezier, Perpignan, Toulouse, Nimes, Montpellier & Girona and Barcelona in Spain too!

Region
Languedoc-Roussillon is one of those areas of France where you can feel like you’re totally cut off from the rest of the country. Commercial tourism has been very slow to capitalise on the region, meaning you can still enjoy a slice of authentic French rural life at its finest. A mixture of landscapes also makes it a great place to visit, with a good stretch of coastline offering a totally different experience to more bucolic interiors. Whatever you’re looking for, our range of villas and chateaux in Languedoc means you can get exactly the kind of holiday you want with accommodation that’s perfectly tailored to you, your friends and your family.

Perfect property for large groups & families
Le Manoir is a superb property. The house is beautifully decorated, so spacious and very clean and well equipped, we wanted for nothing. The setting was ideal with everything on our doorstep in the lovely village. Everyone in our large group of 19 loved the property, the pool & outside areas, the location and the fantastic facilities. There is lots to visit in the surrounding areas too. Gilles the private chef produced an amazing meal for us. We had a restful and fun stay and would certainly book again in the future. Everything was easy to arrange and Jay & Melanie were excellent hosts. Highly recommended property for groups and families.

Just what we needed
We had a fantastic week staying at this beautifully restored home. Our party ranged from 20 months to 60 years but there is something for everyone with lots of extra thoughtful touches by the owners that mean that you can completely relax. The stairs are all gated, and stair gates on every floor or doors to close off unsafe areas meant adults could all relax. There are lots of toys for all ages, books to read and games to play. The bathrooms are modern, kitchen and laundry room really well appointed with a huge range cooker that makes family cooking a pleasure, two dishwashers, lots of crockery and glasses and also plastic plates, cups and bowls for little ones. I really appreciated the basics such as salt, washing up liquid, cleaning clothes and a few dishwasher and laundry powder to tide us over until we could get to the supermarket.Jay and Melanie are excellent hosts, very responsive before travelling to all requests, and Jay met us on arrival to take us over the house in detail so we could appreciate the beauty as well as understand how to make best use of all the facilities on site and locally. The pool is a really good size and the design works well for families with steps and not too deep, with floatiesand lots of sun beds and umbrellas. Bath and swimming towels are provided. The gardens are well kept with lots of shade , and the trampoline and swing kept our toddler amused for hours. Although booked well before Covid it was a bonus that we existed in our own little bubble, with everything readily available locally. The local baker makes the most fantastic croissants and cheerfully produces birthday cake on request. Don’t make the mistake we did and pick up wine on the way there in case the honesty bar was too pricey- the owners' choices are excellent value. The very tall will need to duck regularly on the ground floor. We opted to have the air conditioning package on the top floor only- but in the heatwave at the end of the week I wish we had invested in it as the usual precaution of closing shutters and windows by day and opening by night wasn’t quite enough. I can fully understand why people rebook time and time again and would happily revisit. Reading over the reviews from previous guests with hints and tips looks like everyone who holidays here feels as we did.

We hope to return!
We all had a wonderful time at Le Manoir. The garden was lovely and the children had great fun in the pool. Thomas, the youngest and smallest of our grans children learnt to swim there. The design of the pool gave him the extra confidence to take his armbands off. As for the the girls they were in “Barbie” heaven with the huge range of toys. Also they all enjoyed the dressing up clothes. The games room was also a big hit with the boys and girls. We loved the bedrooms, especially the master one. The kitchen and utility rooms were the best equipped we’ve come across in of all our holiday rentals. At first we thought two dishwashers was unnecessary but with sixteen of us we were soon filling both every day. We loved Canet with it’s fantastic bakery, butcher, Pizza restaurant and the bar were a real bonus. Patrick and the Casino convenience store gets top points. He, and his wife, were so helpful and very pleasant. The village shops being only a few minutes walk away were a real benefit as they saved us journeying to supermarkets.
We found an excellent restaurant “L’o a la bouche” at La Somail. La Somail, just ten minutes drive away, is a lovely town and we enjoyed several visits there.
All in all it was a great holiday for all of us. We have been taking the family on villa holidays over ten years and they all agreed, most unusual us all agreeing, that Le Manoir was the best place we have stayed. -
Ideal for parties!
We have recently returned from our week at Manoir Belle Epoque in SW France and I firstly wanted to thank Oliver's Travels for their organisation and welcoming champagne.
Secondly, I would like to complement Melanie and her husband on their home and to thank Melanie in particular for being such a gracious hostess during our stay. Their house is ideal for large parties - ours was 13 but they can accommodate more - and the facilities were superb. I would thoroughly recommend this property. -
Lovely!
It was a great place to stay and we all thoroughly enjoyed the facilities and comfort provided.

Such A Great Time!
We had a great time during our week at le Manoir Belle Epoque. The house is huge, and very elegant. We were only a party of 5, but the home could definitely accommodate 4x as many guests. The home is completely renovated but has kept the old world characteristics. It is also very well equipped, there wasn't anything we could think of that was missing, and it was nice they provided some basics (toilet paper, dishwashing liquid and tabs, tea etc) when we checked in. The home acted as a great base to see the area - we ventured to Carcassonne, Narbonne, Besiers, Gruissan, and took a local wine tour and boat cruise with Taste du Languedoc which was excellent. We also had the catering that Melanie recommended one night and it was fantastic. Melanie and Jay were very gracious hosts. They were close by if we needed anything and provided us with some great recommendations of places to see during our stay. The town has everything you need and is a couple minutes walk away (bakery, pizza shop, small grocery store, pub). People in the town are very friendly and if you do not speak French you can still get by. Would highly recommend staying here and we will plan to stay again. Our only regret is that we didn't stay 2 weeks. It would have been nice to have a week to explore the area, and another week to relax by the pool and in the backyard.

A most beautiful, unique house, perfect for our family group
Manoir Belle Epoque is situated at the edge of the village of Canet with its boulangerie and small super-market, bar, coffee and pizzas all available. Many of the interior features of the house are original so that it retains its 'belle epoch' style combined with top quality modern kitchen and bathrooms - a perfect mix. Jay and Melanie's attention to details made our stay truly memorable, before, during and after our visit. There is a brilliant games room (not yet pictured on the website) which was a huge hit with our teenagers and their parents, as was the pool with its safety barrier to protect the younger children. Plenty of shade and space in the garden and courtyard - we wanted for nothing. Thanks to you both and it was a pleasure to meet you.

Fabulous Mansion with lovely grounds near Canal du Midi
We were 2 families from Sweden staying for a week in this beautifully renovated mansion. The interiors are very tastefully done. The garden is very pretty with a little stream. It has a nice seating area at the front of the house where we enjoyed all meals outdoors. The pool is great with a good surrounding fence to ensure little ones are not running off.
The owners Jay & Melanie facilitated a lovely stay, with lots of great tips for beaches, restaurants and local facilities. They recommended Wendy from Vin & Vacances for a private wine tasting at the house which was absolutely superb. I can thoroughly recommend booking Wendy. They were also able to book an outstanding babysitter for us.
The location is ideal, close to the Canal du Midi (great for power walks and running) and in Canet - just a 5 min morning walk to the bakery. A multitude of medieval towns and villages are within a 30-40 min drive away, and vineyards everywhere. High points were the villages of Olargues and Minerve in the national Park, the fortress at Carcasonne, the boat trip through the lock in Narbonne plus cathedral. The lovely beach town of Grissan is only 30 mins by car - gorgeous sandy beach.
Travelling from Sweden, flying into Beziers airport was ideal. A perfect vacation trip. -
Amazing stay
Our group consisted of 10 adults and 12 children. The property was very well appointed for large groups- plenty of cutlery, pots and pans etc. There is an honesty wine cellar which was very reasonably priced and well stocked. Manoir Belle Epoque was amazing- The pool was very safe- fenced and accessed by lockable gates, this provided great peace of mind. The large garden and games room kept the children entertained for hours- giving the adults much needed respite. The children loved the freedom that houses and gardens provided - something which doesn't happen often back in the UK. The hosts, Melanie and Jay were brilliant- very friendly and easy to contact. The village is just a few minutes walk away and a good selection of small shops and a couple of restaurants. We didn't make use of the chef that you could pay to cook dinner, we took it in turns to host every night, stocking up at the local Carrefour. The region is absolutely beautiful and we'd love to return.

Great eight !!!
I booked Manoir Belle Epoque for our group of 8 ladies who meet up every 18-24 months. We have rented all over the world, and this villa was ideal for everyone, we loved our G&T by the pool in the evenings. With help from Melanie and Jay we had a full day visiting a local market, an artisan wine maker, olive oil production and the end of the day a trip on the Canal de Midi complete with a wine tasting on board. They also gave us contact for a chef to cook us an evening meal. Nothing was too much bother, and we would certainly return. This was an area none of us had visited before but will definitely return to.
