Overview

Pool Villa/House Modern Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach Laptop Friendly Workspace All Bedrooms En-Suite Parking Space

Only a few steps from a vast sandy beach, the luxurious Villa Santa Clara features a heated swimming pool, cinema room, gym and beautiful balcony with gorgeous views over the palm trees towards the sea.

It’s hard to imagine a more enviable setting for this impressive villa near Sète, a historic fishing port often referred to as the ‘Little Venice of Languedoc’. Simply stroll across the park and promenade and you will reach the sandy shores and one of the town’s oldest beachside restaurants for tapas and seafood overlooking the Mediterranean.

Back at your villa, gather for al-fresco feasts on the decked terrace, prepared on the Weber barbecue, then soak up the sun in the colourful garden or cool off in the infinity swimming pool. Everything about Villa Santa Clara exudes a ‘wow factor’ from the open-plan lounge and state-of-the-art kitchen-diner opening out to the terrace to the cinema room, gym and sauna for guests’ private use.

Sleeping up to 10 guests (and two additional children), the four main bedrooms are stunning with king-size beds (which can be made up as twins), Smart TVs, dressing rooms and en suite bath or shower rooms. For an extra touch of luxury, two of the bedrooms lead out to the upper balcony for glorious vistas towards the sea, especially atmospheric as you sit out with a glass of Languedoc wine and gaze out to the everchanging evening sky.

A smaller fifth en suite bedroom with Smart TV can be found in the basement, simpler in style so perhaps perfect for accompanying teens who wish to have easy access to the cinema and fitness room! Elsewhere, kids will love the table football and ping pong whilst there is a kayak, paddleboard and beach games (from sand toys to mini football nets) available for guests to use, provided by the professional and thoughtful owners.

Take advantage of the villa’s bikes and cycle along the promenade to the heart of Sète; passing beachside restaurants, ice-cream parlours and the local watersports centre, you can reach the Théâtre de la Mer in just over 3.5km whilst Les Halles de Sète is a little further, a fantastic food market and an ideal spot for lunch.

Food-lovers who wish to venture further afield shouldn’t miss the Saturday morning market in historic Pézenas, around half an hour away by car, or find a waterside restaurant serving freshly harvested oysters by the Étang de Thau. There are of course endless vineyards and characterful wine villages to explore across the Languedoc countryside as well as the vibrant cities of Béziers and Montpellier, both under an hour away.

Closer to home, tour Sète’s charming canals by boat, look out for summer jousting tournaments and visit the town’s many art galleries and museums. Described by the Telegraph as “the perfect break”, Sète’s culture and heritage prove the town is so much more than just glorious Mediterranean beaches.

Villa Santa Clara enjoys an incredible setting just a few steps from a vast Languedoc beach, summer beachside restaurants and a 12km long promenade, close to the characterful seaside town of Sète (4km), known as the ‘Little Venice of Languedoc’.

In a residential district, simply walk out of your gate, across the park and promenade and you will reach the sandy shores and Mediterranean sea – there’s an outdoor shower by your gate so you can wash the sand off your feet when you return from the beach! This beach is one of the largest in Sète so you should always find space and some excellent restaurants can be found here, including Sète’s oldest beachside restaurant for fresh fish, seafood and tapas in a stunning location. It’s usually best to book ahead and check seasonal opening dates/times in advance.

In terms of shopping, there is a Lidl supermarket a short cycle/drive away or head down to La Corniche neighbourhood (2.5km) for a selection of shops including a good boulangerie, grocery store and wine merchant. The fresh food market, Les Halles de Sète (4.5km), is a great way to pick up all sorts of local produce and you should stop off for a coffee, glass of wine or a bite to eat. Even closer is a lovely beachside ice-cream café just over 500m away.

The promenade in front of the villa is wonderful for long walks towards Sète’s Théâtre de la Mer (3.5km) or in the other direction passing glorious beaches. There is also a fitness trail near the house and a watersports centre around 1km away near Le Pont de l'Avenir offering boat rental, jet skis, parachuting and other water-based fun. The most adventurous of guests can venture up the hill to the Forêt des Pierres Blanches (2.5km) for incredible scenery and sea vistas or simply hire bikes and soak up the ambience of the promenade.

The historic fishing port of Sète isn’t just about its Mediterranean beaches, it’s also a town full of culture and heritage with museums, art galleries, festivities as well as the picturesque canals that are best explored by boat. Check out what may be going on at Théâtre de la Mer during your stay including occasional outdoor films in the height of the summer.

Other events that typically take place in Sète includes the ‘Worldwide Music Festival’ in early July with some events taking place at the nearby beachside restaurant and along the beach, a traditional boats exhibition in mid-April and the Saint Louis Festival in mid-August with beachside festivities and jousting tournaments on the canal.

Elsewhere, eat oysters accompanied by chilled white wine by Mèze or elsewhere on the Étang de Thau, drive out to the Languedoc vineyards and charming wine villages of the region, visit the historic town of Pézenas (36km), famed for its Saturday morning market or you could even spend the day in Montpellier (36km) or Béziers (44km) to soak up the vibrant culture of this fascinating part of southern France.

Region

Languedoc-Roussillon is one of those areas of France where you can feel like you’re totally cut off from the rest of the country. Commercial tourism has been very slow to capitalise on the region, meaning you can still enjoy a slice of authentic French rural life at its finest. A mixture of landscapes also makes it a great place to visit, with a good stretch of coastline offering a totally different experience to more bucolic interiors. Whatever you’re looking for, our range of villas and chateaux in Languedoc means you can get exactly the kind of holiday you want with accommodation that’s perfectly tailored to you, your friends and your family.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Just walk out of your gate, across the park and promenade and you will be on a wonderful sandy beach! The promenade is wonderful for family walks, there is a nearby fitness trail and even a bike park close to the villa. After all of this, stop off for an ice-cream at the popular beachside ice-cream parlour just 500m away.

There is a range of water-based activities and boat hire available from a watersports centre (around 1km in the direction of Sète) and lovely boat trips around the canals of the historic fishing town. In the summer months, look out for water jousting tournaments, especially in mid-August when the Saint Louis Festival takes place.

Find tennis, horse-riding, go-karting and waterparks within easy reach by car as well as a tree-top adventure centre (La Forêt d'Acrobates) and the Musée des Dinosaures both around half an hour away. On rare rainy days, head to Odysseum (43km) near Montpellier for ice-skating, an IMAX cinema, aquarium (with sharks) and a shopping centre.

There are of course plenty more family-friendly attractions in and around the seaside resorts of Marseillan Plage (15km) and Cap d’Agade (23km).

Owner Profile

When did you become the owner?

As lovers of Sète and the region, we were lucky enough to be able to own this incredible Villa 3 years ago. It is for us the opportunity to discover the Languedoc region, its richness, its traditions, its cuisine, its wine, its music and its art of living.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?

When you enter the Villa, you immediately get a wow effect from the vastness of the reception area and the windows that open to the outside, offering large, unified spaces. Everything is designed to make your stay feel like a luxury hotel... rooms in independent suites, ultra-high quality equipment,... You are seduced by what you discover. The immense strength is its exclusive positioning, facing the infinity of the sea which offers itself to you in the master suites.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?

As owners, we have many anecdotes to share. Perhaps the most surprising one concerns the construction of the Villeroy district 12 years ago. This area offers incredible qualities of location between the sea and the Etang de Thau. Our clients are always very surprised to discover the beauty of the landscape, the proximity to the sea and the local shops in such a modern and exclusive area.

Have you ever had any famous guests staying?

We were lucky enough to welcome French actors, singers, DJs, professional sportsmen in the world of football, artists who have publications widely relayed on the networks and NBA basketball players.

For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…

Must do? Visit the Mont Saint Clair, the fish market, the market hall and its traders, the Théatre de la mer where you can enjoy festivals and concerts during the summer.

Must eat? At The Marcel, at the Arrivage, at my friends Claude's at the paillote la Ola or at Hervé's at the restaurant CELAVIE. You also have the restaurant l'Essentiel with my friend Audrey who will welcome you. You will discover perfectly cooked products of the region.

Must see? Boat trip and visit of the canals, the oyster beds, parachuting, bike or paddle rides on the sea, tasting of the Villa's selection of wines...

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?

Come as you are, we have provided absolutely everything for your comfort and well-being. Take advantage of this ultra privileged setting to relax and recharge your batteries. The region and the hinterland offer many nuggets to discover.

  • Thank you

    Created on 23/09/2022

The house is very well placed and fits the description perfectly. We were 10 people plus 2 small children and it was perfect. The host is very friendly and knows the area very well and welcomes you on arrival. We had some local specialities in the fridge and a few bottles to go with them, as well as a small birthday present for my son's 4th birthday.
    Thank you to the hosts!

  • A Lovely Stay

    on 25/08/2021

We were a large family (me, my husband and 3 kids aged 1 to 7 as well as my parents and my sister) and we had a lovely stay at Villa Santa Clara. The villa itself is beautiful, very clean, very functional with great facilities including an infinity pool, tennis table, table football, a sauna, gym, home cinema (hubby was so happy), etc… The sea view from bedrooms is breath-taking and the beach is literally 3min walk. There is a lot to do and see in the area, we tried a few restaurants recommendations from the host and loved them, went to a gig at Theatre de la Mer and enjoyed riding bicycles, the lively city centre is 20min away by bicycle using very safe cycling lanes. Finally the icing on the cake was the host himself, extremely helpful (got a fence installed around the pool because we had a toddler and a gate for the stairs), always available and extremely pleasant to deal with. We will definitely go back!
