An extraordinary 900-year old chateau in the Pays de Loire with luxury accommodations and a picturesque setting outside a pretty village: this historic castle wing sets the scene for magical family holidays.

This particular wing of the castle, the Chateau des Poetes Keep, dates back to the 13th century and is artfully designed. Ornate wallpaper, rich tapestries, antique furnishings, and chandeliers decorate the four floors, including five sumptuous bedrooms with luxury bedding and gorgeous valley views.

Dinners at home are quite special in the medieval dining room beside the Gothic fireplace (wood included!), and the library, piano, billiard table, and games make it easy to stay entertained indoors.

The 15 hectares of parkland are filled with exotic trees imported from all over the world. Guests will also love the private pond, shared pool, and a vibrant French garden, complete with ancient castle ruins.

The famous Puy du Fou is a must see. It’s been named the 2nd most popular theme park in France next to Disneyland Paris and is just 8km away!

The owners live in the main part of the castle (they run a B&B here) and they rent this historical wing of the large castle, with an independent entrance. Please contact us for further details.

This is a historic home, and as such:

  • It has probably been standing for over 100 years, which means it's full of historic value and charm but it may also have one or two quirks!
  • Some of the decor and furnishings may not be brand new, but that should not detract from your holiday experience in this unique setting that allows you to take a step back in time!

  • The pictures don't do justice

    on 03/01/2024

Our holiday at Chateau des Poete Keep was a unique pleasure. Oliver’s Travel arranged every requested detail flawlessly.

Our hostess, was truly divine, and we’ve unofficially adopted her into our family. And, the Christmas dinner and luncheon were an unbelievable culinary delight.

FYI - the pictures on the site are completely accurate, but don’t really do justice to this beautiful property.

Thank you for a wonderful experience!

  • Brought tears to my eyes!

    on 29/09/2023

We felt we walked into a dream as we arrived and the Castle & Keep came into view! The grounds are absolutely gorgeous as well and the scent of fresh grass and beautiful flowers filled the air as we walked towards the terrace. Sandria greeted us at once with a warm kiss on the cheek and introductions to her 2 faithful dog companions. The Keep is in exceptional condition with every detail arranged for a supremely comfortable stay within its ancient historic walls. We slept like a King and Queen on the plush mattress and bedding and awoke under the magnificent dome that spans the bedroom and its flower patterned ceiling. This exceptional place and property has brought tears to my eyes with its peace and beauty and we couldn't be happier!!

  • Oliver's Travels is the one for me

    on 02/09/2017

The customer service we received from Oliver's Travels was second to none! Excellent communication.... lovely touches .... we received a goody box of travel essentials and a cookery book after our return! They stayed in regular touch with us in the lead up to our holiday and helped to build the excitement. I actually don t want to use another travel company ever again! Perfect accommodation, perfect hospitality and perfect customer service at a reasonable price. What more could any traveller want?

  • A perfect holiday

    Created on 31/08/2017

Thank you so much for the fabulous cookery book which we received this morning! We are really overwhelmed by the excellent customer service you have provided. The holiday was perfect. (Secretly hoping it can be our wedding venue one day, but I will have to wait for him to pop the question first!)

  • Is this a Dream?

    on 21/08/2017

Just to say we arrived at the Chateau and we are absolutely in love with the place. We cannot rave enough about it and keep pinching ourselves to make sure it's real.
Thank you for all your help and the excellent customer service we have had from the Oliver's Travels Team.

  • A wonderful experience

    on 14/06/2017

Thank you for making our stay such a wonderful experience. The accommodation and the atmosphere in the Keep was far beyond our expectations - the four grandchildren absolutely loved it especially climbing to the top of the tower. The swimming pool was also a big hit and the freedom of the grounds and walking to the village by themselves. Your hospitality and generosity was amazing. After our disastrous journey from England you helped in every way that you could. You arranged local car hire for us, taking us to collect the cars and when one of my friends came to visit and became quite ill, you did your best to get help for us. I would no hesitation whatsoever in recommending your Chateau to our friends and family and I believe that my husband and son-in-law have both put positive reports on Trip Advisor for you. Many thanks again.

  • Beautiful castle & grounds

    on 10/01/2017

My family and I (10 people total) stayed in the Keep for a week. The castle is beautiful and the grounds are very well maintained. The hosts were as nice as they could be and were very attentive to our needs. They even invited us into their home for a tour of the property, treats, and an evening of music played by a local pianist. It was a very memorable experience and my son got to wake up on his 13th birthday in a real castle.

  • Wonderful castle

    on 21/02/2016

Impressive accomodation which feels like you're living in a museum. If you stay on the top floor, there are lots of stairs but that's what you expect in a medieval castle.
Beautiful setting and would definitely recommend the property. Lots to do in the area especially for kids. I'd highly recommend puy du fou. It was a fantastic holiday.

  • Wonderful week

    on 18/09/2015

Many thanks for making our stay such a memorable time we all enjoyed your wonderful chateau and the warm welcome and help you both gave us all.Even the weather was good to us ! The birthday meal and setting was superb . Thank you again.

  • A French Castle, Now Open To All

    on 09/07/2015

As bed-and-breakfasts go, it cuts a striking figure, with its towers and medieval tapestries and ancestral portraits, set among trees imported from around the world in the early 1800s, including American cedars and sequoias.

The castle is filled with upholstered chairs, chandeliers, richly decorated wallpaper and fancy clocks. There was a statuette of a tiger under an oil painting of the Madonna and Child, flanked by Chinese urns. In one room there was a rather severe-looking portrait of an ancestor, Stanslas Vignial, the president of the royal court in Bordeaux in the mid-1800s, imposing in black-and-crimson jurist robes.

  • Beautiful chateau in lovely surrounding

    on 09/05/2014

15 of us stayed here for a week 9 adults and 6 kids
    Absolutely faultless in every way
The downstairs apartment was totally accessible with a large wet room and a small kitchenette
The main kitchen had everything we needed for our stay and all rooms were sufficient to house 4 families/couples
Our hosts were helpful if somewhat aloof which suited us fine
And even though there were guests staying in the rest of the château it was very quiet at night
The pool area was perfect and each day we ate great fresh food in various parts of the castle grounds without problem or hindrance
The gardens are superb with some huge trees and lovely walks
All in all a great place to spend some time with family and friends .
