Overview
A spectacular house set in grounds so beautiful they've been regularly used as filming locations, Le Lierre Cottage is sure to give you a real taste of true luxury French living.
This charming and unique property offers guests the chance to live in peaceful and relaxing surroundings that have been honed with loving care by generations of the same family, who have owned the property for nearly 300 years. From the 17th to the mid 19th century, Le Lierre Cottage was primarily a wine property, incorporating vineyards and a winemaker's house - a heritage that's still very much in evidence to this day.
The property is located in an expansive rural area including a wood, pool, and topiary garden (please note that children must be able to swim confidently at the time of staying). The cottage benefits from its own entrance and a garage, while the pool is shared with Frédérique and Rémi, the property's owners, who live nearby in the master house with their dog. At any time of year, the cottage is exceptionally cosy and comfortable - there's a lot to be said for looking into a longer winter rent here, where you can really explore and appreciate everything the amazing region around Loiret has to offer.

Thank you!
Thank you , Frederique for your kindness and hospitality for providing such a feast for our arrival !You have thoughtfully stocked the fridge and cupboard with so many goodies and the wines also much appreciated!
Sadly the weather had not been warm and sunny but we have enjoyed daily trips into Orléans and surrounds. We loved visiting the Cathedral and travelling about on the tram to Orléans is much quiter than expected.
We have loved the garden and the piece and quiet.
We hope your next guests enjoy their stay as much as we have. -
My favourite cottage
We have stayed in many places across the world, but this one is my absolute favourite.
The cottage is old, historic, full of traditional French style but at the same time warm, well laid out, practical and most of all homely.
The welcome from Frederique was fantastic, we arrived quite late, with tired and hungry children, and so to arrive to find the fridge and cupboard stocked with some basic food (and some wine and other drinks) was amazing!
The location near to the river as many chateau’s for some great cycling and walking opportunities around the Loire.
It was early Spring and we never got the chance to test out the pool, but it did look like it would be a lovely addition in the summer months.

Superb!
The premises itself was superb and the hosts did everything right; we would definitely recommend them.

A magical getaway!
We had a lovely stay in the adorable Le Lierre Cottage! We loved all the lived-in, cozy touches that make this place feel like home.
We ended up spending one night in Chinon, and both of us felt homesick for this cottage that night.
Thank you for creating a magical getaway. -
A lovey week in this fantastic cottage
A lovey week in this fantastic cottage. Thank you for your help with taxis, restaurants, and recommendations for things to do with children!
The welcome pack was fantastic too: we‘ve never stayed anywhere so well provisioned and generous.
The cottage information book was the best we have had.
We had everything we needed. Thanks!

Just perfect!
We are so blessed with the fantastic week here, what a lovely place here, fantastic house and beautiful gardens with the wild life of red squirrels, woodpeckers, jays, robins, etc.
We felt at home as soon as we arrived; staying here is like entering a microclimate of greenary and peace. Like "The Secret Garden".
It couldn’t have been better, everything was perfect in this pretty, quintessentially French cottage.

Pure happiness!
It was once again, pure happiness, a space of time of inner freedom, a feeling of being at home, at the end of the world...
That the house recognized us, and welcomed us again in the simplest way possible, with its wood fire and the well-being it exudes.
Thanks to Frédérique, to Toqués (restaurant), to the Sunday market, to the fantastic baker, to the sunny days, to the birds, to the silence and peace of the property..Tribute to the Archambault art of living. -
We will always cherish it!
The cottage was decorated beautifully with fresh plants, Christmas decorations and a gorgeous Christmas tree. As soon as Frederique finished showing us the house, we felt we were staying at the home of dear friends. Dinner was waiting in the fridge for us, and the cupboards, fridge, and bread box were stocked with everything we could need. The kitchen is so well equipped! I enjoyed baking and making velvety soups with the stick blender. Toiletries, cleaners, soaps, detergents, umbrellas, reusable shopping bags, and firewood were already in the cottage when we arrived. Remi (medical doctor) came to our rescue when Kate got quite sick over Christmas. Merci beaucoup. We also loved playing baseball in the woods with a large stick for a bat.
Thank you for a wonderful experience we will always cherish. -
Beautiful cottage
We do not want to leave this beautiful cottage, nor do we wish to say goodbye to the most gracious hosts. Thank you for making us feel so welcome in your beautiful home and for taking such good care of us. It felt like coming home to a loving family. We hope to visit you again, and in the meantime we expect to see you in London! We look forward to many more interesting conversations together over good food and drinks. Thank you so much.

Charm and hospitality in a relaxing environment
Charming and full of authentic character, Le Lierre Cottage captures the experience of a cozy cottage with views of nature set in beautiful, well-tended grounds. Since we visited for a week in February, our family of three spent much time indoors, finding the space very comfortable and accommodating. I especially liked the adorable French country kitchen with its pretty views and the fireplace that kept us warm.
Others have already commented on the generous provisions that the owner provides. This is all true but I don’t think it captures the amount of thought and detail she has considered in creating as welcoming a stay as possible. After briefly showing us the house, we were left to relax and feel at home, discovering croissants and other baked goods from her favourite local bakery; a pantry and refrigerator stocked with quality produce and ample ingredients for a few simple meals. This cottage and its furnishings are immaculately maintained and presented.
Together with all this, we enjoyed much privacy during our stay, although we knew that the owner was available if necessary to answer any questions that would arise. -
Relaxing stay
Thank you for all your efforts to ensure a relaxing stay. Your attention to detail is a wonder and all three of us are impressed! I will miss this cosy kitchen and warm fire, and we have never stayed anywhere that has anticipated every need that could arise. Merci! We hope to return when the weather is warm and enjoy the inviting pool.

Thank you for an incredible stay!
We've had the best week! From chateaux to vineyards to walks along the Lore we've had the best time! Thank you so much for your amazing hospitality. What an amazing home. After a year of no travel this has been the best week. Thank you so much.

Lovely place to stay
Lovely place to stay. Lovely grounds, swimming pool, dog and tame crow thrown in. Nice touch to have a stocked fridge and drinks when you arrive. The owner was very welcoming.

Beautiful cottage and wonderful hospitality
What a charming cottage in the most beautiful surroundings, we could not think of a better place to stay and relax for a week! Thank you for the wonderful hospitality for our week in your beautiful cottage. Our first trip away since the dreaded 'Covid' has been a great one, hopefully we'll make it back!

A fantastic weeks holiday
We felt at home immediately. The house is filled with character and reminds me of a landmark Trust property, historically interesting, sympathetically decorated but with all the mod cons! The owner fills it with all you need on arrival, including wine and selection of spirits. The family are charming and you can choose to spend time with them or keep to yourself. Shops nearby and of course all the sights. We had a wonderful week just relaxing, socialising and wine tasting or more like consuming! Recommend.

This was a lovely villa and the hosts were charming!
It was amazingly well stocked for our first night and they were available if we needed help but didn't impose themselves on us.
-
Our visit was wonderful!
We were three generations. The owners delightful, the cottage was the best provisioned of any we have leased. I would highly recommend this property for anyone visiting the Loire. We saw 14 chateaus in 5 days and were not rushed returning in time to have a swim in the evening!!
-
Amazing holiday!
Hosts were wonderful in every way!
-
Amazing time
This is a beautiful French cottage and the owners are so nice. When we arrived the refrigerator was stocked for our first dinner and breakfast the next morning. We even had fresh eggs and three bottles of wine. The pool looked beautiful but it was too cold to swim. The gardens were so pretty. The only thing I would warn about was the washer and drier. If you’re from the states it’s an entirely different animal.

Best of Loire Valley Castles
WONDERFUL COTTAGE - GREAT FOR EXPLORING THE LOIRE VALLEY CASTLES Le Lierre Cottage is "THE ONE" for any project aimed to explore in one or two weeks the best of the Loire Valley castles. A perfect location near Orleans (the Orleans Cathedral is a must-see) creates the 200 kms reach to Chambord, Blois, Cheverny, Chenonceau, Amboise, Le Clos Luce, Tours, Villandry, Azay Le Rideau, Chinon along the Loire while allowing a jump to the Chartres Cathedral to the North (plus the Castle of Chamerolles that includes a Perfume Bottles Museum, the recommendation of Frederique) for the interested ones. The cosy welcoming house in Saint-Jean-de-Braye, a suburb of Orleans, is part of a larger family property which includes the main residence, the guest house and a green tiny park. The hosts, Frederique and her husband Remy, have managed to create a "home away from home" for their guests, imbued with French charm and chic, warm and spacious enough to include a living room with fireplace, a dining room with Armagnac eager to be tasted, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equiped kitchen with breakfast table, a summer terrace with table, a swimming pool with lounge area, a friendly dog and an even friendlier cat. Who would want more? But there is more, Frederique's hospitality and Remy's smile make the experience fulfilling and unforgettable. Highly recommended!!! We shall return for sure!!!

Very enjoyable holiday
Beautiful garden and home. Friendly and helpful host.

Idyllic
We stayed in Le Lierre cottage in August and had a frankly wonderful time.
First impressions did not disappoint, set in a very pretty beautifully tended garden the cottage looked idyllic.
Having followed Federique's very accurate directions (with just a few minor in car disagreements) we were delighted to find the cottage was charming and very well stocked, with a variety of food and wine to ease us gently into our first evening.
The cottage works on so many levels; from lounging by the pool to offering the perfect base to explore the Loire valley and enjoy Orleans.
Frederique and Remy are delightfully kind hosts who went out of their way to make our family feel like a part of theirs. Their knowledge of the region is encyclopaedic, with really excellent recommendations from places to visit to places to eat. Even the dog was entertained, by Nestor the new puppy. -
Lovely Loire Valley Cottage
Staying in this cottage hugely surpassed our expectations. We were welcomed to the cottage with a cupboard filled with food and a tray full of drinks to help ourselves to. The grounds of the cottage were stunning. They are very well kept and contain a pool and a lovely little wooded area with chickens - we were even given the eggs some mornings. The pool got a lot of use but, even if you're not much of a swimmer, there is a lovely seating area to relax in. The cottage is very close to a couple of bakeries, the nearest being about a 5 minute walk. Most mornings we walked down and got croissants and other pastries for breakfast.
The owner's were incredibly helpful and kind throughout our visit. Our stay in the cottage was truly amazing and made our holiday one we will never forget! -
Fabulous Luxury in The Loire
We spent a wonderful week in this luxury 'cottage' at the start of the July school holidays. The weather wasn't great but we were still able to swim in the (somewhat bracing!) pool several times a day - and my husband enjoyed cycling (with bikes provided) to the local patisserie for croissant every morning. The location is perfect for a day trip to Orleans (think Joan of Arc) and the owner's tip of driving to the tram stop and going from there was perfect - 3Euros for the three of us. The cottage itself caters for every need, including nespresso and filter coffee machines, beautiful paintings throughout and all other mod cons and luxuries you could ever need. There was a complimentary fully stocked fridge and bar provided and the pool tent full of fluffy towels and comfy sofas. Perfect for a chilled glass of rose and a board game after our swim! The setting is gorgeous in the most stunning gardens and woods, and our 12 year old adored playing with the chickens and the resident cat each day. This is the perfect treaty bolthole for any one of any age all year round and Frederique couldn't have made our visit more special. Thank you.

Exceptional Cottage
The cottage is charming and quirky and the living areas are a good size. Every convenience is thought of and the owners are quick to act if something is not right. The garden is beautiful with a well maintained private wood to walk in which we really appreciated with our two dogs. The real jewel of this property is the owner Frederique who went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The kitchen was stocked with food of a useful variety. There were lovely croissants, bread and home made jam for our first breakfast so we were able to arrive after a long drive being stuck in traffic and everything was there. There is plenty of useful information and restaurant suggestions and we had an outstanding meal at one of these. Frederique even organised transport for us so we could enjoy the wine and not have to drive. This is a very comfortable and convenient spot to stay in to visit many of the Loire's attractions. The property and owners are exceptional compared to others we have rented in France!
-
A beautifully appointed cottage
Incredibly generous and hospitable with supplies on arrival and well stocked cupboard for the use of visitors, even down to bowl of little chocolates in drawing room and tray of drinks to help ourselves, and free telephone calls! This extended to the bathrooms with soaps, tissues, shower gels and flannels all for our use. Lovely pool area with tent in charming garden. Excellent information guide to cottage and the area with maps. Adorable and well-trained dog Bess! Beautifully appointed and imaginatively decorated cottage. Our privacy was well respected and Frederique was very helpful when needed (e.g. to sort out use of oven and washing machine).
-
Great choice
We have just returned from a fantastic week in the cottage. On arrival we were welcomed by the owners who had stocked the fridge and cupboards with various goodies. The cottage itself was fab, could be doing with a little tlc in the ensuite as tiles are cracked otherwise everything spot on. The grounds are extensive and enclosed which was fantastic for the dogs. The pool was huge and fenced off for safety. Communication from Oliver's travels and the owners was fantastic prior to travel and even booked our dogs into the local vet for their check prior to return to uk. Only negative comment which has no reflection on owners is that we travelled during French holidays which resulted in various restaurants and shops in town being closed for a month. Would def return to this cottage and use Oliver's travels in the future ☀️

It was everything we had dreamed of and more
First off, Frederique was a first-rate hostess who went out of her way for us. Due to a problem at home, we didn't have a gps with us and the car rental place didn't have one, so I called Frederique and she came and led us to the cottage right away and then lent us a spare gps she had on hand to use for the duration of our stay, which was a Godsend.
My first impression of Le Lierre Cottage was that it was even more charming and beautiful in person than the photos on the website. It was immaculate and homey all at once. I especially loved the "chandelier" and clock in the kitchen made out of old pieces of cutlery. Very original. There were touches like that throughout the cottage: very unique and eye-catching small details in every room.
It was only my husband and myself, so the space felt luxuriously large. We were on a delayed honeymoon that encompassed our first anniversary, though we are in our 50's/60's. The bed in the master bedroom was extremely comfortable and the room itself was very lovely.
Frederique had stocked the kitchen and larder with a refrigerator full of wine, cheese and fresh strawberries, as well as fresh bread and croissants and many other delicious items in the pantry, which we dined on the first night and enjoyed throughout our stay. Again, her thoughtfulness was evident everywhere.
Although it was too cool to use the pool area, I was surprised and pleased to see that it was right outside the side door of the cottage, which you can't tell from the photos on the website.
Frederiques's husband, Remi's gardens were also something to behold. His dedication to creating a haven of beauty and peace has manifested in a garden that is perfectly manicured and at the same time, very creatively designed. I especially loved his topiary. There is also a long walkway into the woods that isn't evident on the website that is magical in its appeal. My only disappointment was that I didn't get to see the roses in bloom, of which there were many in bud.
Last of all, I must mention Valentin, their cat. She was a wonderful, loving presence all week which was an added bonus, because I was missing our pets at home.
Altogether, although we still have many other places we want to see in the world, we will be absolutely return to Le Lierre Cottage one day to celebrate another milestone anniversary. Thank you, Frederique, for a stay filled with magical memories we'll treasure forever. -
A bit of French country paradise!
Le Lierre Cottage is even better than its fabulous web description. Every convenience is provided to the guests! The location is ideal; if you wish to have a retreat from the world, you can do that here-if you wish to combine country living with access to Orleans and Paris, you can have that here-if you wish to visit historic sites and engage French history, you can do that here.
The owners could not have been more helpful. As I developed a medical problem, they eased the situation with helpful advice and assistance. The cottage is full of travel guides and maps and the owners are happy to provide additional suggestions.
I would, and intend to, recommend this property to family and friends. We hope to return ourselves!
We enjoyed visiting chateaus, ancient ruins, the Loire Valley cities, a Gregorian Chant mass at a small church that contains the bones of Saint Benedict, and even a day trip to Paris. Food in all the restaurants we tried were excellent. There is a nice Sunday Market in St. Jean de Braye, and I enjoyed playing Julia Childs a few times.
Bon Voyage! -
Wonderful Stay
My wife and I and two friends stayed at Le Lierre Cottage for a week in May and it was everything we could have hoped for . When we arrived Frederique had stocked the shelves and the refrigerator, there was even a bottle of wine waiting for us. It was cool and rainy during our stay and we made good use of the fireplace in the evenings. The cottage is well located for visits to the chateaus and sites of Loire. We also enjoyed relaxing days at the cottage with a walk to one of the bakeries for breakfast in the morning and a visit to the local crepe shop just a 1/4 mile away. If you are looking to experience France and French hospitality this is a great way to do it. Thanks again Frederique and Remy and we hope to see you again. We will never forget how you saved us during the "wine outage" on the unexpected Bank Holiday give Valentine a scratch for us.
