This 12th century château in Gascony is set in 40-acre grounds with glorious views of rolling hills, vines and typical landscapes of the Gers. Sit out on your terrace with a glass of wine from the estate’s vineyard, play tennis on your very own court and cool off in the swimming pool on warm summer days. It’s also wonderful being just a short walk from a fortified historic village.

Admire the old gatehouse as you approach Château Des Figuiers, then be enchanted by the old tower and huge entrance door as you approach this historic abode. The ground floor is home to a traditional salon with a huge fireplace, sofas and a dining table whilst there is a smaller living room with a Smart TV (bring your own devices to plug in), DVD player and library with lots of books to choose from. Enjoy fresh baguettes and pastries on the wooden kitchen table accompanied by good coffee.

Historic stone steps spiral up the tower to the first floor where there are three doubles, a twin bedroom and three bathrooms (two en suite). All four bedrooms have their own desk in case you need to work at home or simply be inspired by the Gascon landscapes as you draw or write.

In the summer months (May to September), there’s additional accommodation across two other buildings including a medieval bergerie annexe and two additional bedrooms (one for children). During this period, Château Des Figuiers is able to sleep up to 12 guests.

Pass the château’s vineyard, fruit trees and statues as well as the walled gardens with shady spots for al-fresco lunch beneath the dappled light of the tree and relaxation across the lawn and terraces. Old stone steps lead towards the private tennis court and a swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers and wild gardens. There’s table tennis near where the wine is stored and a pretty vine-clad pergola for barbecued feasts above the swimming pool.

It's no wonder the owners have been holidaying here for over 30 years – it is their genuine holiday home that they so love. It’s around a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk to a little fortified village with a bakery, butchers, grocery store, restaurant and bar as well as a lovely weekly market.

Located between historic Auch and Condom, discover other wonderful market towns close by such as Castéra-Verduzan, Vic Fezensac and Fleurance, and venture to picture-perfect villages including Larressingle, Fourcès and Montréal, all within half an hour.

Pass undulating scenery of summer sunflowers, vines and rolling hills as you cycle or hike through the glorious countryside, come across gastronomic restaurants serving fine local cuisine, sample Armagnac across vineyards and embrace the slow pace of life in the region referred to as the ‘Tuscany of France’.

Château Des Figuiers is set within 40 acres of grounds in the Gascony countryside just a 20-minute drive north of the historic town of Auch.

Reached via a country lane (which turns into an unmade track as you approach the château’s gatehouse), it’s around a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk (no pavement) to the local fortified village that dates back to the 12th century. The village is home to a restaurant, boulangerie, butchers, tabac, bar, pharmacy and small supermarket with a decent selection of wine. On Wednesday morning a market takes place on the village square, a lovely way to stock up on local fruit, vegetables, cheese and other traditional products of the Gers.

This is the Gers countryside, also known as the ‘Tuscany of France’ with rolling hills, vines and fields of summer sunflowers. Discover the landscapes on foot, bike or horseback or simply drive past idyllic scenery as you explore picture-perfect villages and medieval towns.

Nearby Castéra-Verduzan (8km) is home to the refined restaurant, Le Florida Gascony, as well as a lovely weekly market whilst Vic Fezensac (15km) is famed for its bull-fighting heritage and annual music festival at the end of July. Meanwhile, experience the characterful towns of Fleurance (25km), Condom (28km) and Lectoure (30km) on market days and dine out in other wonderful Gascon restaurants across the region.

The trio of ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ are just over half an hour by car – Larressingle, Fourcès and Montréal. Closer to home soak up the historic charm of the tiny village of Lavardens (7km), home of Château De Lavardens with its art exhibitions and restaurant.

The historic capital of the Gers department is Auch (21km) perched above the Gers River with its grand cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage masterpiece, alongside medieval architecture, vibrant markets and picturesque streets. Stroll through the historic district, admire the iconic statue of d'Artagnan and stop off on a café terrace for a glass of Armagnac in this beautiful and historic town.

Region

A relatively new addition to France, the Midi-Pyrénées was created to surround the cultural capital of Toulouse in the late 1970s. You might think that its relative youth would mean the Midi-Pyrénées is short on character or identity, but remember, this is France we’re talking about – the whole country is steeped in history and tradition. Encompassing parts of Gascony, Languedoc, the Gers and several others, you’ll get a varied slice of the whole French experience here, not least if you stay at one of our beautiful chateaux in the Midi-Pyrénées! And if you want to discover the best of what the region has to offer, our Midi-Pyrénées travel guide is here to show you where to go, what to eat and how you can make the best of your break with some amazing activities.

This is a lovely historic home – the family who owns Château Des Figuiers has been coming here for over 30 years. It’s fantastic to have a private tennis court, table tennis, a pinball machine and a Smart TV for films on DVD (or bring your own firestick). As well as the swimming pool and vast grounds of course.

The Gers is a wonderful area for long walks, cycle rides and horse-riding through idyllic landscapes of rolling hills, vines and summer sunflowers. Look out for summer boat trips from the market town of Condom alongside canoeing/kayaking along the Petite Baise around 20 minutes away.

Even closer, there’s a Base de Loisirs in Castéra-Verduzan (9km) open in the height of the summer with swimming, pedalo hire as well as an inflatable waterpark and slides in the height of the summer.

Around half an hour away, south of Auch, Le Vert en Air is a great place for tree-top adventures, paintball and other seasonal activities. Meanwhile, theme park enthusiasts will enjoy a day out at Walygator Sud-Ouest (64km) near Agen with its many rides for all ages.
