Puy-l'Évêque, Cahors and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie are just some of the beautiful places to visit or simply spend your summer days river swimming or canoeing nearby.

If you’re wishing to head further afield, head to Rocamadour, Gourdon and some of Dordogne’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ for yet more breathtaking beauty.

  • The tower bedroom with its circular double bed is accessed via one of the twin bedrooms on the second floor.

This home is a part of our Great Value and Heritage Collection!

This is a historic home, and as such:

  • It has probably been standing for over 100 years, which means it's full of historic value and charm but it may also have one or two quirks!
  • Some of the decor and furnishings may not be brand new, but that should not detract from your holiday experience in this unique setting that allows you to take a step back in time!

South of the Lot River, just half an hour from the historic town of Cahors, this château is in a stunning setting surrounded by fifty acres of private grounds with wonderful views of the Lot valley.

There’s a pretty village within a 4km drive with a boulangerie, small shop and post office whilst the riverside village of Luzech (7km) offers further shops and amenities as well as a couple of restaurants and a Wednesday morning market. Luzech’s setting on the banks of two parts of the river is especially picturesque. A little further east, head to a brilliant Base de Loisirs on the Lot with supervised swimming in July and August as well as a river beach, canoe hire, paddle-boarding, pedalos and a play area.

The nearest town is beautiful Cahors (23km), well-known for its historic sights including Le Pont Valentré, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the medieval historic centre, discover picturesque squares, narrow lanes and some excellent restaurants. The Wednesday and Saturday morning markets are a particular delight selling all sorts of seasonal local produce such as truffles, foie gras and Quercy melons.

Across this region you will be able to visit many vineyards and wineries around Cahors, some of them famous for producing some of the finest Malbec grapes in the world. Private tours and tastings can be arranged.

From May to September take a river cruise along the Lot in Cahors or in July and August you can take a day boat trip as far as the incredibly beautiful village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (50km). This village is known to be one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and can also be reached in around an hour by car. It’s an enchanting place with flower-filled lanes, little art galleries and delightful shops selling all sorts of artisan products – it’s an area that has inspired artists for many years.

A little closer to home, Puy-l'Évêque (20km) is another charming village, perched above the Lot with its beautiful stone houses and maze of narrow lanes and steps. Take a boat trip along the river from here and hire canoes or pedaloes. Market-lovers should visit on a Tuesday morning; other wonderful markets in the area include Montcuq (17km) on a Sunday morning and Prayssac (15km) on a Friday.

There are many historic châteaux to visit in the Lot-et-Garonne from the incredible ruins of Château de Bonaguil (38km), the pretty gardens and surroundings of Château de Fumel (40km) and the especially beautiful Chateau de Gavaudun (50km).

Other classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ that can be reached in under an hour include Monpazier (54km) and Monflanquin (55km) or head further north to the Dordogne river with Domme (55km), La Roque-Gageac (56km) and Beynac-et-Cazenac (63km). Take a boat trip along the river, hire canoes, explore Farmer’s markets and discover the glorious landscapes of the Dordogne.

Rocamadour (70km) is another outstanding place of natural beauty with its perfectly preserved town built on the edge of a cliff, perhaps combined with a trip to charming Gourdon (49km), one of many gorgeous towns of the Lot region.

Region

A relatively new addition to France, the Midi-Pyrénées was created to surround the cultural capital of Toulouse in the late 1970s. You might think that its relative youth would mean the Midi-Pyrénées is short on character or identity, but remember, this is France we’re talking about – the whole country is steeped in history and tradition. Encompassing parts of Gascony, Languedoc, the Gers and several others, you’ll get a varied slice of the whole French experience here, not least if you stay at one of our beautiful chateaux in the Midi-Pyrénées! And if you want to discover the best of what the region has to offer, our Midi-Pyrénées travel guide is here to show you where to go, what to eat and how you can make the best of your break with some amazing activities.

It’s just a short drive from the banks of the Lot River, wonderful for picnics and walking. Within a ten-minute drive, just east of Luzech, there’s a Base de Loisirs that has supervised river swimming in July and August alongside pedaloes, canoes, a river beach and a play area.

Drive to the beautiful village of Puy-l'Évêque (20km) and take a boat trip up the river after a morning exploring the historic lanes. There’s also summer canoe hire, pedaloes as well as electric bike hire here.

You can also take lovely boat trips along the river from Cahors, including a day trip (July/August) to the stunning St Cirq Lapopie. When exploring Cahors, look out for the little road-train that is ideal for young families and tired legs.

History lovers can visit the fascinating caves at Grotte du Pech Merle with its prehistoric paintings or discover incredible châteaux such as the ruins of Château de Bonaguil and the especially beautiful Château de Gavaudun.

There’s a waterpark just south of Cahors, L'Archipel, open in the summer with slides and chutes or, a little further afield, families will love Parc en Ciel (52km) with its tree-top adventure courses, play areas and a natural bathing pool.

  • A fabulous week

    on 04/09/2024

Had a fabulous week in Chateau Camelot. Ideal accommodation for a large group. Plenty of space for everyone and facilities to entertain all ages on site. The sports hall, pool and outside dining area were particularly impressive. Nicky and Richard the owners were very helpful with local knowledge. Although in a remote area, it is within easy cycling distance to a shop, bakery and bar! We organised a chef to prepare a special meal in the Chateau one evening which was fantastic. Would definitely recommend.

  • A beautiful Chateau set in lovely peaceful surroundings

    on 28/08/2024

We've just celebrated anniversary and birthdays with our family of 14 (age 8 to 80)in this beautiful Chateau set in lovely peaceful surroundings. Great seating areas and pool and just in case the weather is inclement or you need to cool down, the sports hall offered many activities. Nicky and Richard gave us a wonderful welcome and proved to be attentive but inobtrusive hosts. Also a special mention to Jill of Quercy Kitchen who provided a super meal to celebrate my birthday. A holiday we will never forget.

  • A lovely stay at the Chateau Camelot

    on 10/08/2024

We had a lovely stay at the Chateau Camelot to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday. The bedrooms were spacious and nicely furnished. There were lots of facilities to cater for such a large party and it was great fun to have so many people seated around the table together. The setting was peaceful, but with lots to do on site. Richard and Nicky were extremely helpful; they live nearby so can be called upon if any assistance is needed, but otherwise did not disturb the holiday. I would recommend Chateau Camelot for anyone who wants a holiday with a group of friends or family.

  • The chateau is lovely

    on 06/08/2023

We stayed here as a group of 5 families in August 2023. The chateau is lovely, and having rented many similar properties in previous years, this is one of the best we've stayed in. The house itself is well equipped, the pool is beautiful and the location and grounds are lovely. Highly recommend.

  • Magnificent

    on 05/09/2022

I'm going to preface this review by saying our extended family have hired a number of chateaus over the years, so we have something to make comparisons with! Without doubt this chateau offered the best value for money we have ever enjoyed. Our party of 18 used all the 10 bedrooms on offer, without anyone having to compromise on bedroom space. The kitchen was large enough to cater for the entire party with plenty of worktop space and a large island unit. Refreshingly there are plenty of cooking utensils and professional sized pans etc. There are three fridges, we used the large stand alone fridge for food, and the two under counter fridges for 'adults' and kids drinks. The lounge diner is huge and comfortable, with good quality games available, including chess & backgammon. The pool is among the largest we've ever enjoyed with a deep end you can actually dive into. At points we had a dozen people in the pool and still had room to swim around. There are two main terraces, both easily able to accommodate at least 20 people. Smaller seating areas are dotted around the grounds so if inclined you can take yourself off for a bit of peace and quiet. There is a new and very good quality BBQ on the rear terrace with a moving charcoal tray which means you can raise the heat source as charcoal burns away. We were able to BBQ for 18 on half a bag of lump wood. Our party had 5 cars, the driveway was large enough for them to be parked so that everyone could drive out of the chateau without the need to move another vehicle. Saving the best to last, the sports hall/games room is magnificent. With a full sized badminton court, a basket ball hoop, 2 table tennis tables, table football, a darts board, and a full sized pool table our whole party had plenty of activities to choose from. This facility was constantly used for weeklong knockout completions including our own decathlon type event. Modesty prevents me revealing who the best pool player was. From our perspective, this vast array of facilities and activities provided the perfect ingredients for our first ever holiday where children needed no entertaining at all. Finally a place they can truly entertain themselves. Finally, the hosts were perfect, we couldn't have been looked after any better.

  • Fantastic stay

    on 24/08/2022

Fantastic stay at Chateau Camelot - group of 10 adults and 10 children. Great set up to keep both groups well entertained and some additional surprises like a play area next to one of the outside eating areas. Sports hall and pool both huge, the latter keeping us cool in the hot afternoons. The owners also helped us arrange a local cook to cater on some evenings and also a local wine producer to do a wine tasting.

  • Magical week

    on 06/08/2022

We have just returned home from a magical week at the Chateau Camelot in the area of Cahors in the Lot Valley, South West of France – 16 family members of 4 generations came together to celebrate the Diamond Wedding anniversary of our wonderful parents, and what could be more fitting than a beautiful Chateau set in stunning surroundings. This was our second visit to the Chateau, our first being to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary a decade ago! The new owners were delightful and catered to pretty much our every whim! The chateau has so much to do, from lazy days around the beautiful pool, a well equipped gym/games room with excellent gym equipment, darts, bikes, pool, badminton, tennis, table tennis, table football, and even an outdoor golf game there is no time to get bored!! There is plenty to do in the local area too such as canoeing, boat trips, historical towns, markets and Chateaus plus plenty of supermarkets close by for provisions. There were no shortage of wonderful settings to enjoy our family mealtimes together, and we opted for catered meals by the wonderful catering team, @Le Quercy Kitchen, run by lovely Jill and her daughter Georgina – we could not fault a single morsel of the delicious food that they prepared for us each evening and they looked after us superbly! Overall an excellent week, would highly recommend!

  • Great place

    on 30/07/2022

Great place in a lovely part of the Lot valley. The house comfortably can sleep 18 or so. Lovely pool and grounds with a sports hall with plenty of options to keep kids busy. Must have a car when staying. New owners were very helpful if need anything at all. Lovely wine cave as well (stocked). Great week had by all.

  • Fabulous holiday

    on 16/07/2022

We stayed at Chateau Camelot at the end of June to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday with family and friends (16 of us). The setting is beautiful and looks out over a valley which is particularly nice in the evenings whilst relaxing on the terrace with a wine or two. We had a fabulous holiday. There's something for everyone at the chateau, lots of activities in the sports hall to keep everyone occupied but what we especially enjoyed was the vintage swimming pool and the golf course which was challenging but enormous fun. Our week flew by far too quickly and we will certainly look to return. Thank you to new owners for making us feel so welcome and for making my wife's birthday such a special occasion.

  • Holiday Oasis

    on 25/06/2022

Expect a warm welcome from friendly and helpful owners to the lovey Chateau Camelot. Beautifully located among vine covered fields and wooded hills, we'd enjoyed the peace, the views, the wonderful pool and the space. Chateau Camelot is not far from some pretty villages dotted around the River Lot, and Cahors is only 25 minutes away. Plenty to do and see in the area, with the opportunity to return back to our holiday oasis where we could barbecue and relax or play a round of golf on site in their vast grounds. Loved it.

  • Had the most wonderful time

    on 09/10/2021

I managed to book a last minute trip at the Chateau Camelot, as I was let down by another company last minute, and how we lucked out! We have a wheelchair user in our party so that alone makes it near on impossible to accommodate especially last minute, but the downstairs bedroom with en-suite suited perfectly for my MIL. We had the most wonderful time, the property is huge, big enough to accommodate my family and my two siblings plus their children as well, it's not often we find somewhere for all four family's including a wheelchair user. My twin daughters fell in love with the Princess bed in the tower. We never had to stress about my nieces and nephews splashing other guests in the pool (it's massive) as the house is completely private and surrounded in 50 acres, so all the kids had an amazing time exploring, and when required we didn't even have to queue for the golf or the sports hall. I cannot recommend Chateau Camelot enough, they rescued our holiday and we will certainly look at booking again.

  • Such a romantic place

    on 02/10/2021

We visited the Chateau Camelot in August last year and had a wonderful time! I love that region of France and it was such a pleasure to revisit the area with my family. The Chateau is such a romantic place which the kids loved to explore both inside and out! We had planned to return this summer but due to Covid restrictions, were forced to postpone to next year. The owners were really considerate and kindly rebooked us for 2022 which was a great relief!

  • First Class

    on 01/09/2017

First class facilities (ping pong, badminton, boules, subuteo, bikes, darts, snooker, etc etc), lovely convenient pool and outside dining area. Very handsome comfortable house, imaginatively laid out.

  • Superb facilities

    on 31/08/2017

Chateau Camelot provided an unforgettable holiday for our family party of 13 adults and four children under nine. Helped, admittedly, by one week of perfect summer weather, we found it impossible to make full use of all the many facilities in the time available. The plethora of outside attractions in this area also drew us away from the chateau's myriad facilities.
The chateau, set in its own 50 acre parkland, is comfortable and spacious, with an abundant supply of hot water, which is paradoxically essential, even in 30 degree weather.
The kitchen is well-appointed and we'll-equipped and gives onto an outside dining area (with huge table), which in turn gives immediate access to a splendid pool and small jacuzzi. Also, beside the pool were several fig trees. These were full of fruit, which the owner kindly said we should plunder at will. (We did just that).
I feel that the website does not do full justice to what the chateau offers and is slightly inaccurate in some respects:
Kitchen - in addition to the two small fridges and separate freezer, there is now a full size fridge too. We were never able to fill all of these.
The basement wine cellar also includes an unmentioned fridge.
The drawing room's TV has several British free-to-view channels, which were not mentioned. Inclement weather might make that facility very useful.
The chateau's orientation (south facing) means that two outside terraces/seating areas are essential on hot sunny days, so that one can move with the sun (or move out of the sun on blistering days). The chateau does mention this facility, but does not stress it's importance. I think that some potential guests who are not familiar with the French sun in this part of the country, might, when comparing one venue with another, underestimate this crucial factor.
Finally, we did have one minor temporary problem with the heating of the pool. Once notified, the owner reacted swiftly and effectively, and it was immediately solved. Further, the owner says that a heat pump will soon be installed as back-up, so that this minor glitch is highly unlikely to recur in the future.
After such a successful, but too brief, stay in this property, we would highly recommend it to others. We would love to return one year. If we do not, it would only be because of our party size or our choice of alternative geography.

  • Simply Perfect

    on 08/08/2016

We were a group of 18 adults who have had the most wonderful holiday at Chateau Camelot. Our expectations were undoubtedly exceeded in every respect. The views from the large pool, the Chateau and the immaculately kept grounds are exquisite. The Chateau itself is impressive being abundant in space, exceptionally clean, carefully decorated and every room wonderfully comfortable. The kitchen was fantastically well equipped for mass catering with ample fridge and freezer space. We wanted for nothing with a well furnished sports-hall, locally and very affordably stocked wine cellar and a pool that enjoyed the sun throughout the day (which was big enough for the entire group to enjoy be that in the pool or lounging by the side). As if all that wasn't enough the real thank you for making our holiday so wonderful goes to the truly superb manager of the property, Eric. He went above and beyond to ensure our enjoyment and make everything as convenient and easy as possible. As the organiser of the holiday I can't thank him enough, he ensured our privacy was respected yet he was readily available if we needed during our stay. Eric's help was invaluable in helping me organise the trip before our arrival (activities, food and general organisation amongst other things)...he is undoubtedly a major selling point for the chateau! You cannot fail to enjoy yourselves at Chateau Camelot and I and the group are unable to recommend the Chateau, the location and Eric highly enough!

  • The Chateau was transformed into a perfect wedding venue

    on 19/08/2010

We stayed at the Chateau in the week leading up to our wedding which we had organised on the weekend following our arrival. We found the chateau to be an excellent venue for our group of 15 adults on self catering basis. The chateau is accurately described on the website and the owners were always discreetly on hand to help out where required. The local town is only a 5 minute drive for small shopping and fresh bread and the town of Cahors with large supermarket and shops is only 20 minutes away. Most our guests arrived at Toulouse airport which is 1,5 hours drive away. As it was May we were a bit unlucky with the weather but due to the excellent accommodation and sportcomplex we managed to have a great week. There is more than enough to do at the Chateau, from drinks and games in the stylish wine cellar to sports and fitness at the sport complex. The patio area is a good place to sit even when the whether isn't good and we spend many nights out there. The Chateau is well positioned, both the interior and exterior have been a true labour of love which can be seen in the detail and quality of the finishings. The kitchen was well equipped and well used during our cooking competition as well as having a lovely barbeque at the weekend. Prior to choosing the chateau for our wedding / holiday venue we met up with the owners to discuss the possibilities and see the chateau which was very helpful.. they were very helpful before and during our stay and have done most of the organisation for our wedding as well as ongoing presence and support on our wedding day. Which gave us the perfect day! The Chateau was transformed into a perfect wedding venue for our ceremony and for our wedding meal with a large dining table in the main dining / living room which comfortably seated our group and guests totalling 25 persons, and even accommodated a pianist playing live music. We then had fire works to finish which was spectacular!!

  • Our time at Chateau Camelot

    on 13/08/2010

We were a large party ranging from 13 to 65 and everyone was happy. The sports complex was great, with badminton, ping-pong, darts, bikes etc and the pool was a good size. The enormous shaded patio area at the front looks out over hills and was good for evening meals. The smaller patio by the pool gets sun from mid-morning. The bedrooms are spacious and the showers/baths/loos are modern. The sitting room downstairs manages to feel comfortable and cosy even though its so huge. We were self catering and appreciated the modern, practical kitchen - 3 fridges! - we had no trouble cooking for 20. Isolated and very quiet. Great cycling though very hilly.

  • Amazing house

Amazing house - hope to be back next year

  • Plenty to do for everyone

    on 11/08/2010

We had a family holiday for 15 of us, ranging in age from 11 to 70, with plenty to do for everyone. Lots of time was spent in the super pool and the sports barn was very popular with the young ones - they even organised a badminton tournament which everyone joined in! We enjoyed eating out in the evenings on the front patio, with it's huge table and beautiful views - a 'favourite place' every evening. The side patio was used for breakfasts and barbecues. The Chateau, built by Chris as a real labour of love, is beautifully situated, with wonderful views and an ideal base for exploring the area if you can drag yourself away. Lots of room in the Chateau for all our party to spread out - even get lost if wished!! Lynne and Chris live on site, 'hidden' behind the sports barn. You wouldn't know they are there unless you need them at which time they are very helpful and friendly. Lynne was very helpful when I was making our booking, don't know how many e-mails we exchanged but I felt I knew her before we arrived!! We thoroughly recommend the Chateau for a family get-together. No one should every be bored, whatever age!
