Manoir Normand is in the heart of Bayeux, just five minutes stroll from the local bakery, green-grocers and butchers and ten minutes from the town's famous restaurant, which also offers delivery to the Manoir. The historic town is well known for the UNESCO classified Bayeux Tapestry, depicting the Norman’s conquest of England and the medieval cathedral is also just a short walk away. It is a beautiful town with many renowned restaurants, historical buildings and interesting museums about this fascinating part of Normandy.

The town is also a great base for exploring the D-Day Landing beaches which are just a short drive away. Arromanches (12km) and Omaha (24km) are examples of two beaches of historical importance as well as the batteries and cliffs of Longues-sur-Mer (12km) just north of Bayeux. Private guided tours of this area can be arranged for guests.

This part of Normandy has so many activities on offer. Sand yachting is very popular on the coast with centres in Asnelles (13km) and Omaha (24km), plus there are other watersports such as kayaking, diving, sailing and stand-up paddling nearby. Further inland you will find horse-riding and cycling, including a centre that will hire out electric bikes and offer guided tours of the area. Alternatively, if you are looking for a slower pace then be sure to visit one of the fine Calvados cellars and learn how the drink is made.

If you have more time on your hands then there is so much in Normandy to discover. Head inland to beautiful towns and timeless villages, explore the regions gastronomic delights or head to the coast whether it is the local wide sandy beaches or the rugged cliffs a little further away. Highlights of the area include one of France's oldest University cities, Caen (30km), the seaside town of Deauville (78km) from the 'la belle époque' era and the stunning granite island of Mont St Michel (90km).

  • Lovely and perfect

    on 13/06/2024

I can’t tell you how lovely and perfect your home was for our stay in Normandy. We’re so grateful for your hospitality that met all of our needs and more. The rooms were spacious, clean, and Catherine was very responsive and accommodating. The location couldn’t have been better and we so enjoyed the different of rooms on the first floor of the home. It was like staying in a museum! While we were sad not to be able to meet you, I hope you had a wonderful and successful week surrounding D-Day. We all very much enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again soon.

  • Wow wow wow!

    on 25/05/2024

Our stay with 13 guests was no less than spectacular! The photos can't convey the size and beauty of the chateau. Our guests were in awe. From the well-appointed interior to the incredible gardens, it has become our favorite. Personal touches like robes and slippers in each room were greatly appreciate. We had a chef who cooked nearly every night while we all gathered around the table sharing wine and stories together. The natural wood grill was easy to use as well. We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in each of the parlors and had a few fun billiard tournaments. While we didn't take advantage of the hot tub, it's a lovely room and always ready. Our hostess took us on a guided tour upon arrival and also helped with a few requests during our stay. All top notch. We will absolutely be back!

  • Absolutely amazing

We've had a super stay, thank you. The Manoir is beautiful, very nicely restored and it was spotlessly clean. My son, who love history, very much enjoyed all the WW2 and other memorabilia. We would love to visit again.

  • An incredible house

    on 03/10/2021

What an incredible house in-and-on a historic landmark in history. Our group who consists of 'middle-aged' men loved to be in this place. Historical and enjoying the good food, great wines, actually everything!

Many thanks, another great location in our broad history of travel over Europe.

  • Spectacular!

    on 25/09/2021

We so loved our time at the Manoir! Thank you for hosting our family in such a beautiful space. We were able to enjoy the tapestry, the D-Day beaches and so many lovely sites in Bayeux and Normandy. The highlight of our time here was gathering around the table with our family from France - cousins and relatives, who do not get to see each other often, all together - joyful. Happy and celebrating. Thank you once again, Spectacular!

  • A truly perfect stay

  • We loved it!

    on 22/10/2019

It is so beautifully and carefully done and SO interesting!! Our family really enjoyed staying there. Thank you so much for sharing it via Rent a Villa.

Of particular interest to me as the mother of the family:
the linens/sheets are the best I've ever seen.
the lighting is superb with very tall ceilings, and lovely tall windows.
the kitchen is open and conducive to family meals.
the guide of Normandy was the absolute highlight of our trip and worth every cent: he loves the history, knows the history and is just perfect in how much he shares with guests.
the food prepared for the evening meal was great and it was a particular treat.

  • Thank you for making our stay so comfortable.

    on 21/10/2019

What an extraordinary week ! As the chef de cuisine, I loved cooking in this well stocked kitchen !I think I used every pan, dish and utensil ! But… the history of this place is overwheming- from the earliest time to WW2, wre were surrounded by evidence that people are so resilient. We were humbled by the generosity and welcome given to us wherever we traveled beautiful Normandie.

  • Thanks for the chance to stay in your home!

    on 07/10/2019

First of all your home is just spectacular. Thanks so much for sharing it. Secondly, our guided Normandy beach trip was fantastic. What an exceptional guide.
Thirdly, our dinner prepared by Chef was wonderful and we will post a message on Trip advisor as we promised to do.

  • Great holidays!

    on 25/09/2019

Superb in town location, walkable to all sights and restaurants. Local boulangerie and pharmacie. Parking inside villa grounds for 3-4 vehicles. Inside, the villa has had extensive upgrade of bathrooms. Kitchen is smaller that photos might suggest and in the same room as the dining room but we had a chef prepare a meal for 12 without problems. Beds are comfortable and large. Steep stairs to upstairs bedrooms. We loved the media room where we watched movies as a group. The backyard is large and private with table and chairs for 8 or more.

  • Thank you for sharing it with us!

  • Truly Beautiful House

    on 29/07/2019

This is a wonderful house full of character and history in an excellent location. Four generations spent a lovely week here enjoying all the house has to offer and right in the centre of the enchanting town of Bayeux. The whole area is beautiful and we spent several days exploring as well as lovely lunches in the peaceful garden. I would highly recommend this truly beautiful house for a lovely holiday. We ended our holiday with a fabulous meal cooked for us on the last night.

  • Second time!

    Created on 15/07/2019

Having passed through here 3 years ago, we decided to return to the beautiful Bayeux with our children and grandchildren. All our grandfathers fought in WWII, and one landed here on Utah Beach. We reviewed our history, toured the sights in Normandy and toured all the museums. You can’t imagine our delight and amazement here at the Manoir, with all your special treasures and delights. We so enjoyed this beautiful home with all its special appointments. We relaxed in the luxurious surroundings and returned from our busy days to the peaceful tranquility of your gardens. Our family has so thoroughly enjoyed our time here where no one wanted to leave. However we left with wonderful memories in our hearts and a vow to return.

  • Perfect 75th anniversary!

    on 15/07/2019

My dad has been preparing this trip for a long time, it’s the trip of his life and he wanted us to be there too. We were lucky to find the Manoir Normand which is the perfect place for such a stay. The house is right in the city center and very close to all the celebration spots : Omaha and Utah Beach, the Cemetery, Sainte Mère l’Eglise and the museums dedicated to this episode of the war. We had a great time at the Manoir and won’t forget it.

  • Merci beaucoup! Nous reviendrons!

Absolutely beautiful vacation home in a wonderful part of France. Close to many interesting sites but also great to just hang out in Bayeaux. Manoir is stunning - pictures don’t do it justice. Wish we were still there! Hope to return.

  • Excellent location!

    on 10/01/2019

It’s a great property that is very convenient to many of the Normandy highlights. Everything, from the property manager to the chef they arranged for us was fantastic.

  • Amazing manoir!

    on 31/10/2018

Top notch renovation. Quality all the way from the linens to the kitchen appliances to the en suite baths. Large comfortable rooms, several gathering spots, lovely garden, parking for 4 or more cars and a carriage house for overflow guests.

  • Perfect!

    on 22/10/2018

I am searching for the superlatives to describe our arrival. It was 8:45 last night. It was dark. We were tired. Our train left Gare St Lazare 20 min late and we only had a 10 min connection in Caen and somehow we made it. They held the train for us! Catherine had ordered taxis for us in Bayeux.
Short ride to the manoir and then wow! We got a tour of the house, started choosing bedrooms and ate snacks I had picked up in Paris. AND drank all the champagne (thank you) and enjoyed a baguette(thank you) and everyone went to bed happy.
Catherine also said that our breakfast groceries are a gift from you. And the calvados. I am overwhelmed by your generosity.
I am in the last week of a 6 week adventure through France and Italy and was feeling a bit worn out. Our arrival here has totally rejuvenated me!
This is my 5th trip to Normandie and it may just be the best!

  • Fabulous villa

The chef prepared an incredibly delicious and decadent meal and dessert - complete with fireworks on Nana’s 80th birthday cake. Wonderful! Sabrina’s very informative and interesting guided tour. Thanks for all your assistance in making this a wonderful trip!

  • A Real jewel

    on 31/10/2017

The Manoir is a true peaceful retreat, a very quiet place 5 minutes away from the shopping and historical center of Bayeux. It's a real jewel. Its garden is full of energizing greenery and the inside of the Manoir has been decorated and furnished with a great sense of details and a lot of good taste. We have spent a week in this little heaven with our daughters and, what has striken us most, is that we felt really well and at-ease, as if we were at home. The owner himself enjoys spending time there very much and we could feel it. We too felt like spending some time in each room : they are all different, each with a soul of its own and that makes you feel good anywhere around the house. The Cart-Barn has a different atmosphere and decoration but is as attractive and pleasant. The wellness room is also perfect, like this magnificent estate.

  • Exceptional place

    on 15/08/2017

This beautiful Manoir is really an ideal place to spend holidays with family or friends. Young ones and older ones enjoyed the quality of the place with such authentic and refined spaces. What is quite exceptional is the different living-rooms which offer many recreational activities like playing pool, home-cinema, reading, games… or simply gathering and chatting. The large dining-room as well as the patio are great to share moments of conviviality. The cooking masterclass organised by the Chef of a nearby restaurant was a true success. Each bedroom is differently decorated, but they are all cosy and calm. The wellness room was much appreciated and so was the big garden right in the center of Bayeux. An ideally situated house, perfect for peace and as a starting point to discover the history of our Europe. I recommend Guillaume, a professional guide, for a complete day tour: he is extraordinary. The welcome is perfect, worthy of a five-star hotel but with the warmth and friendliness you won’t find there. It was hard to leave after a most pleasant week which goes by too quickly but gives unforgettable memories. We will surely come back !
