In tranquil surroundings yet only a five-minute drive from the charming Provençal town of L’Isle sur la Sorgue, Maison Boisée is a striking and beautiful home for guests looking to relax as well as explore one of Provence’s most enchanting regions.
With vast air-conditioned living space featuring elegant sofas, a fireplace, contemporary fittings and bold artwork, Maison Boisée is architecturally beautiful. Bring the inside out as you step out of the large sliding windows on to the peaceful terrace, listening to the morning birdsong with your coffee.
Alongside the modern and fully-equipped kitchen, there’s a lovely al-fresco dining terrace where you can enjoy long meals with loved ones by the plancha-barbecue on warm summer evenings.
Each of the three bedrooms is bright and homely with cool tiled floors, splashes of colour and doors leading out to the gardens. There are also two modern en suite shower rooms and an additional bathroom, allowing ample space and practicality whether staying with family or friends.
Swim in the large swimming pool and appreciate the tranquillity around you or wander into the 4000m2 of wooded grounds to seek shade or swing in a hammock. You can also play boules, a game of table tennis or just snooze in a deckchair. The Mediterranean surroundings create such a peaceful and idyllic ambience.
The lovely but unobtrusive owner also lives in her own apartment, with its own entrance in the west-wing of the maison. She can give you lots of local recommendations if you would like her to or you may just see her tending to the pool and gardens from time to time.
The charming and pretty town of L’Isle sur la Sorgue is only 2.5km away where you can be enjoying long lunches by the riverside or canals, exploring the many antique shops or experiencing the famous Sunday morning brocante, one of the largest in Europe. Canoeing along the Sorgue from the source of the river in Fontaine de Vaucluse is also a truly magical experience.
From Apt to Avignon and Cavaillon to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, there are so many amazing places to explore across this part of Provence whether you are seeking history, wonderful local cuisine or vineyards. The Luberon’s idyllic Provençal villages are within easy reach whilst activity lovers will appreciate the golf courses alongside the many hiking and cycling trails. This is Provence at its very best with landscapes of rolling hills, lavender fields and perched villages in the distance.

Location
About the surrounding area of Maison BoiseeIn this wonderful part of Provence, 36km east of Avignon, in a residential area and surrounded by 4000m2 of lovely woodland grounds, Maison Boisée is only 2.5km from the charming village of L’Isle sur la Sorgue. There are supermarkets, shops and a variety of lovely restaurants within a five-minute drive.
A very picturesque place to potter around, L’Isle sur la Sorgue is known as a ‘little Venice’ because of its canals and branches of the River Sorgue running through the town. There are some lovely waterside cafes and restaurants, ancient water wheels to admire and the famous Sunday morning brocante, one of the largest antique markets in Europe, alongside a Farmer’s market. The town is also filled with many antique dealers where you can hunt for all sorts of lovely bric-à-brac and old treasures.
Keen fishers can see if they can catch any trout in the river; L’Isle sur la Sorgue used to be a fishing village after all. Another wonderful trip out is to hire canoes and sail from Fontaine de Vaucluse, the source of the river, to L’Isle sur la Sorgue in a glorious setting.
There is a choice of golf courses across this part of Provence, including one a very short drive away as well as other great outdoor activities such as beautiful walking paths across the Luberon and beyond and cycling trails up the famous Mont Ventoux.
The Luberon region is home to many idyllic perched hilltop villages and glorious landscapes to explore. Highlights include Roussillon (30km), Ménerbes (20km) and one of Van Gogh’s favourite haunts, Gordes (22km), also one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. Also, don’t miss the weekly Farmer’s market in Apt (35km), a town known for its candied fruit. Les Alpilles is equally as beautiful with famous villages and towns such as Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (34km) and Les Baux-de-Provence (44km).
If you are not exploring lovely vineyards across the Luberon and Les Alpilles, head towards Châteauneuf-du-Pape (30km) in southern Rhône for more fine wine from this incredible area.
The towns and cities are also brilliant places to visit; Cavaillon (15km) has a fascinating history and a wonderful market famous for its canteloupe melons in the summer whilst the cities of Avignon (36km) and Aix-en-Provence (76km) are both magnificent. Marseille (90km) is also a worthy day trip, especially around the surrounding coastline including Parc National des Calanques.
Not forgetting the Camargue Natural Regional Park, just over an hour by car, another mesmerising region of France.

Region
With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.
Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.
Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.
To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.
Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.
The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesL’Isle sur la Sorgue is a very picturesque place for all ages whether its searching for treasures in the famous weekly brocante or many bric-à-brac shops and admiring the canals, Sorgue river and ancient water wheels in the town.
A lovely family activity is hiring canoes and sailing from Fontaine de Vaucluse, the source of the river, to L’Isle sur la Sorgue, surrounded by magnificent nature.
The cities in this part of Provence also offer activities for families; ride the magical carousel in Aix-en-Provence or explore the city parks and playgrounds or head to Avignon to take a city tour by road-train or a boat trip on the Rhône.
Animal lovers can head south to Zoo La Barben (53km) with hundreds of animals over vast land or a little closer is the amusement park, Wave Island (20km) and JardiTrain (17km), a sweet model railway.

Owner Profile
How long have you owned the property?
I became the owner at the end of summer 2017. Since then, the property has undergone a lot of renovation.
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
What attracted me to this property is the peace and serenity, the surroundings, the nature, the large bay windows allowing you to bring the outside indoors. The spacious pool, the terraces, the beautiful furniture.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
Being in the woodlands, the birds come to drink at the edge of the pool. We have also seen squirrels in the trees.
For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…
Must do?
Visit the Lavender museum and discover its precious secrets in the neighbouring village of Coustellet.
A little further away, the well-known village Gordes is situated on a rocky hillside. At the bottom, you can visit a village previously known as “ Village des Bories” which is a classified historical monument thanks to its buildings made without mortar and visit the magnificent Abbay de Sénanque.
Must eat?
Try local dishes such as soupe au pistou, tapenade, anchoiade, l’aïoli, ratatouille or even la daube.
Must see?
The region of Isle sur la Sorgue is very popular with tourists, being a Mediterranean region with a great amount of sunshine. The relief is varied which makes the area even more exciting to visit. There is a rich cultural heritage and several festivals take place in the area over the summer. Isle de la Sorgue is a village full of joy, and well-known by antiques dealers for its colourful market.
Further away, you can find the pretty village of Goult in the heart of Luberon’s Regional Nature Park. Continue until you reach APT and its famous glacé fruits.
Don’t miss the giant of Provence, Mont Ventoux. This legendary mountain is popular with cyclists and hikers alike. Avignon, the capital of the Cotes du Rhone, is also worth visiting.

Super Villa
Super Villa in the charming L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Absolutely ideal for us as one of the party uses a wheelchair and its all on the same level, even the pool and outdoor eating/seating. Would highly recommend to anyone on a similar situation.

Magical and beautiful house
It was "love at first sight", Brigitte's magical apartment, the large sun terrace surrounded by wild nature, the many possibilities on site. But what would a beautiful house be without the people who live in it? Brigitte's hospitality, keen interest in people, helpfulness and unobtrusive presence made it a very special temporary home. We are very grateful to her for these days.

Would happily return permanently!
This is one of the most peaceful and tranquil homes we have ever stayed in. That it was in Provence, and close to one of the most charming small towns in France made this experience all the more special. Brigitte was the most perfect host: friendly, helpful, charming and full of great recommendations for the village and local activities. The home itself is exceptionally well designed with lots of space, natural light and a wonderful swimming pool — refreshing on those hot summer days. The kitchen is very well equipped too. Our family of five loved the balcony, the petanque pitch and the al fresco patio dining — but we also loved that we could find our own niches to have some alone time or go running along the nearby canal. All in all, an absolute gem and a place that we would happily return to...permanently!
Don't miss out! Reserve now and get a full refund if you change your mind within 48hrs.
