Overview

Exclusive Recommended Pool Villa/House Walk to Village All Bedrooms En-Suite Parking Space

After a day wine-tasting across the vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône or hiking in the foothills of Mont Ventoux, gather for Provençal feasts by the poolside summer kitchen before relaxing with a glass of chilled Muscat de Beaumes de Venise.

Once an ancient wine estate, this beautifully renovated historic home is a leisurely stroll along the canal to the wine village of Beaumes de Venise with its flower-filled lanes, old houses, inviting restaurants and atmospheric weekly market. The domaine stands on the site of an ancient Roman villa - you can see Chapelle Notre-Dame d’Aubune and the Dentelles de Montmirail hills behind the estate, best enjoyed from the shady dining terrace by the boules court.

The welcoming owners have taken such care to create a special holiday home with elegant interiors, tasteful décor and high-end fittings. Guests can appreciate stone or wood flooring throughout, French oak window and shutters alongside historic stone walls keeping the house cool in the summer or warm during the spring and autumn (there is also underfloor heating for cooler months).

Villa Les Dentelles welcomes up to 12 guests plus 4 additional children across its seven double bedrooms and children’s quad with bunk-beds. Whether an extended family or group of friends, there seems to be so much space with two beautifully equipped kitchens and dining areas, two lounges with open fireplaces and exquisite bedrooms offering flexible sleeping arrangements. Each bedroom is so individual, all with high-end bedding and private bathrooms, some with historic detailing and others more modern in style, all with a sense of authentic charm and comfort.

Majestic plane trees, cypresses and olive trees add to the Provençal ambience outside. We love the characterful courtyard as you first approach the house as well as the traditional boules court. The swimming pool area is gated off which is helpful for families and the pool house is fantastic with its summer kitchen, fridge, barbecue alongside a handy indoor shower and WC.

There are wonderful walks, hikes and cycling trails across this part of Provence alongside historic sites (Vaison-la-Romaine, Avignon and Orange), wonderful markets (especially L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Velleron) and picture-perfect villages (Gigondas, Séguret and many more).

What’s more, don’t miss some wonderful festivals and events taking place across the year celebrating theatre in Avignon, opera in Orange, street theatre in Pernes-les-Fontaines alongside cherries in Venasque, strawberries in Carpentras and melons in Cavaillon.

An ancient wine estate, Villa Les Dentelles is near Chapelle Notre-Dame d’Aubune and the Dentelles de Montmirail hills just outside the wine village of Beaumes de Venise. This is the Vaucluse department of southern France, around half an hour from Avignon and Orange.

Within large grounds, the beautiful house is set just off the main road leading to Beaumes de Venise. Follow the footpath along the canal to the heart of the village in 25 minutes where you will find a good range of shops, café-bars and restaurants. The picturesque market takes place on a Tuesday morning along Cours Jean Jaurès.

The village is protected from the mistral wind by the Dentelles de Montmirail so it tends to enjoy a pleasant climate and there are many lovely walks through the village and surrounding countryside of hills, vineyards and olive groves. Beaumes de Venise is a great base for wine-tasting across Côtes du Rhône and Mont Ventoux vineyards. Indeed, the village itself is loved for its sweet fortified white muscat and Beaumes de Venise AOC red wine.

Within a short drive there is so much to discover. Start off by admiring Gigondas (7.5km) and Séguret (13km), both officially classified as two of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. Further north is Vaison-la-Romaine (20km), known as a gem of Roman Provence and a must-visit during your stay, then venture further to the lavender fields of the Drôme around historic Valréas (36km).

The foothills on Mont Ventoux are perfect for hiking, horse-riding and cycling – this region is so loved by keen cyclists, many of whom attempt the challenging mountain ascent from Bédoin (18km).

Other attractive villages and towns of the Vaucluse include Pernes-les-Fontaines (16km) with its pretty fountains and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (28km), famed for its antique stores, riverside café terraces and Sunday morning brocante. Market lovers should also head to Velleron (23km) on a summer evening to experience its wonderful Farmer’s market showcasing delicious seasonal produce from local farms (the market takes place every evening from 6pm in the summer excluding Sundays and public holidays).

Meanwhile, the landscapes of the Luberon offer a wealth of walking and cycling trails passing vineyards, orchards, poppy fields, forest and iconic perched villages such as Gordes, Ménerbes and Bonnieux, all within an hour by car.

Region

Stay in and around the region of Avignon to discover picturesque villages, historic towns, Côtes du Rhône vineyards and beautiful landscapes of summer sunflowers, olive groves and rural countryside. This is a fantastic base for exploring much of Provence and beyond.

With its historic, gastronomic and cultural riches, the small city of Avignon stands proudly by the banks of the Rhône, home to vibrant markets, restaurants, wine-bars and impressive UNESCO World Heritage sites.

One of the most visited monuments of France, Le Palais des Papes is in the heart of the old city, next to the 12th century cathedral and leafy Jardin des Doms where you can admire gorgeous views of the river and Provençal countryside beyond. Soak up the rich history of Le Pont d’Avignon on a guided tour before heading over the river to capture photogenic shots of the city from île de la Barthelasse, France’s largest river island. Avignon’s little tourist road train is a great way to explore the historic city with young children.

Stock up on seasonal fruit, vegetables and regional delights at the beautiful covered market at Les Halles d’Avignon or wait for the main Saturday morning Provençal market near the 14th century Basilique Saint-Pierre. Embrace the city’s food scene across its many cafes and restaurants from the tourist haunts of Place de l’Horloge to hidden gems found on the charming side streets and shady squares of the old quarter. Avignon is also known for its Côtes du Rhône wineries and bars waiting to be discovered.

In July the 3-week long Festival d’Avignon takes over the city, a world-renowned event with contemporary performing arts, films and exhibitions taking place across theatres, cinemas and outdoor venues.

Beyond the city centre, hire bikes to cycle along part of the via Rhôna route or enjoy the landscapes of île de la Barthelasse passing farmland, orchards and vistas across the river towards Avignon’s city centre. Meanwhile, antique lovers won’t want to miss the Saturday morning brocante in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, one of Provence’s most famous flea markets, or venture further afield to the wonderful Sunday morning brocante in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

Embrace the Provençal ambience across villages of the Vaucluse – one of our favourites is charming Pernes-les-Fontaines, loved for its many fountains and delightful market every Saturday morning and Wednesday evening in July and August. Velleron is famed for its early evening farmers’ market open throughout the year (six evenings a week from April to September) whilst Saint-Didier and Venasque are two other picture-perfect Provençal villages to discover.

Driving south instead, visit the art galleries and Wednesday morning market of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a bustling town on the edge of Les Alpilles where Vincent Van Gogh lived towards the end of his life. Enjoy lunch on a pavement terrace in the idyllic hilltop village of Eygalières (you may even spot a discreet A-list celebrity or two) or head south-west of Avignon to embrace the historic ambience of Tarascon and Beaucaire with their impressive castles overlooking the Rhône river.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages

This Provençal house set in beautiful gardens welcomes families. Out of the seven double bedrooms, four can be split as a twin and there is an attractive quad bedroom downstairs with two sets of bunk-beds. Families will also appreciate that the glorious swimming pool area is fenced and gated.

There are lovely walks, hikes and cycling routes across the Vaucluse as well as horse-riding in idyllic surroundings. Discover canoeing and kayaking opportunities along the Sorgue River near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, not far from a tree-top activity centre, Passerelles des Cîmes, with trails for a range of ages.

Other family-friendly attractions include the caves at Grottes de Thouzon (25km), Parc Spirou Provence theme park (15km) and Wave Island waterpark (15km).

If visiting the small city of Avignon for the day, look out for the tourist road train that tours the sights and consider hiring bikes to experience France’s largest river island, île de la Barthelasse, for lovely views of the historic city from the banks of the Rhône.

Reviews

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Provence

    on 22/07/2024

We really enjoyed our stay in Provence and found the house to be very good for a large group such as ourselves. We have stayed in many properties throughout Europe as a large group but found this one to be one of the best yet. The pool and pool area where excellent for us and the children, the outside dinning area was also great. Often the outside dinning can be a disappointment. All of the rooms in the house were very well kept, clean and well equipped. We also thought the location of the property of this size to be excellent. Our only regret is that it was so hot we barely left the pool!! We also found the owners to be very friendly and helpful. Overall the booking experience was also very easy and the pre arrival information very detailed and useful. We would certainly recommend the property and yourself to friends looking to stay in Provence. Many thanks!

  • The property is amazing

    on 05/07/2024

Many many thanks to the owners for the wonderful hospitality... They have been very attentive to any of our requests and helped organizing bike rentals, tours, restaurant bookings, and assisted in all our group of 12 people might have needed. The property is amazing, very well kept and equipped. Hope we will come back here soon!

  • We had a wonderful week

    on 29/06/2024

We had a wonderful week at villa les Dentelles. The villa is truly beautiful, very spacious and very well equipped providing very comfortable space for a large family gathering. The setting, the gardens and surroundings are equally beautiful including an idyllic external dining area and a boules court. The swimming pool is a delight, again with wonderful facilities including towel room, barbecue and dining area.
The location of the villa is another huge bonus. A short and interesting walk along the canal brings one to Beaumes de Venise with all the necessary facilities of butcher, baker, fromagerie etc. For the energetic walker there are hill trails very close to the house and many hiking trails in the area. Close by are villages such as Vacqueyras and Gigondas.
The owners Léopold and Manoelle provided a wonderful welcome, and help and advice for any query and genuinely understood all our family needs. We commend them on maintaining such a wonderful property. This is an idyllic villa, totally family friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • Bravo!

    on 12/06/2024

We spent a nice week at Villa Les Dentelles, although too short. The whole is a very beautiful area, perfectly neat, close to shops and yet quiet. We enjoyed the path along the canal just above the estate which leads to Beaumes-de-Venise. The rooms and bathrooms are very nice, clean and not lacking in quality. nothing. The kitchens are spacious and exceptionally well equipped! Mrs. and Mr. Lombard are very friendly owners and always present to help and give valuable advice. A compliment to the owners who maintain this large house and the whole estate perfectly well. Bravo !

  • We had a wonderful stay

    on 04/06/2024

We had a wonderful stay in Beaumes-de-venise. We were 8 couples and all had a nice room and bathroom, a very, very beautiful house. We cooked every day and were very glad with the equipment in the kitchen. Enough material and good material. A very warm welcome. The caretakers are very helpful: very friendly, very nice people. Swimming pool: great! Outside kitchen: well equipped! Nice place! If we should once again spend our holidays in Provence with our family and friends, we shall certainly come back.

  • We really enjoyed our stay

  • We absolutely loved our stay

    on 04/05/2024

We absolutely loved our stay. The house was fantastic and exceptionally well equipped, marvelously renovated a couple of years ago. We also appreciated the quality and size of the beds! We enjoyed the beautiful pool and pool house in all privacy. Great location and it was fantastic to be able to walk to the village alongside the little river behind the house in about 15 minutes. We congratulate the owners with their beautiful and well kept property and we appreciated their discrete hospitality.

  • A beautiful villa

    on 20/09/2023

We stayed in this beautiful villa to celebrate our 10th birthday party with our friends and family. It was a truly wonderful experience! The villa is incredibly spacious providing ample room for a large group. The pool is an absolute delight, offering a refreshing escape from the warm Provencal weather. One of the best features of this villa it is convenient location. It is within walking distance to a bakery and a butcher, making it incredibly convenient to indulge in fresh local delicacies. This not only added to the charm of the stay, but also made it easy to cater to the needs and preferences of everyone in the group. As a family friendly accommodation this villa surpasses all expectations. The owners are genuinely kind and attentive, assuring that the children felt welcome and had a memorable time. We travel the world but will come back to this villa, knowing we will be received with warmth and genuine care and hospitality. Thank you for making our stay perfect in every way!

  • Fantastic holiday!

    on 07/07/2023

Overall our stay was fantastic and we had a wonderful experience. We hadn’t been back to Beaumes de Venise for almost 8 years and it was great to go back and a wonderful location to enjoy the nearby towns but particularly for hiking etc. The welcome we had at the house was truly fantastic. The wonderful bouquets of flowers prepared for us for the two whose birthdays it was, was just absolutely fantastic and so thoughtful! We really appreciated such a warm, thoughtful and generous welcome. The house itself is beautiful and suited us all perfectly, the bedrooms and living spaces worked perfectly. One of the best features of the property is the pool and the pool sitting/dining area - this was where we spent >80% of our time and it was so well organised for relaxation for swimming and for eating - really fantastic!

  • A beautiful villa

    on 29/06/2023

Our stay at Villa les Dentelles was just fantastic! The house and surroundings were amazing and we enjoyed the good life with great wines (can't miss them because of the wineyards everywhere). The design of the villa is just beautiful, with great comfort in the rooms and perfectly equipped kitchens. Last but not least, the hospitality and help of the owners was so good, and friendly!

  • We'll be back!
