Embrace the essence of Provence at this lovely 18th century mas close to Apt and Saignon. The vast estate takes you back in time with traditional stone walls and an old borie alongside oaks, cypresses, cherry trees and pines. There is even a hiking trail through the domaine – return to cool off in the glorious swimming pool or find a shady spot to rest overlooking the Luberon landscapes.

Step inside Villa Sivergues to appreciate its heritage alongside attractive modern renovations. The spacious living room has tall windows overlooking the characterful stone walls and glistening trees whilst the kitchen is professionally equipped, opening out to the minimalist dining area with a long table for sociable dining surrounded by bold works of art. An arched window beautifully frames the Luberon views as you enjoy Provençal feasts together.

The main part of the house is home to three double bedrooms on the first floor, all with en suite bathrooms, including a master bedroom with a private terrace and yet more stunning vistas. The second floor has two children’s bedrooms whilst an annexe (separated by the summer kitchen) sleeps another 9 guests across its four en suite bedrooms. Altogether, Villa Sivergues can comfortably host up to 15 guests plus an additional four children.

The rustic gardens are full of charm with several terraces for al-fresco dining and relaxation, many with Luberon views. As you explore the domaine, come across fruit trees, an olive grove and an old pond where you can gaze towards hilltop Saignon. The well-equipped summer kitchen is ideal for long al-fresco feasts whilst the 18m long pool is perfect for swimming lengths or just enjoying the coolness of the water on warm afternoons. This is what relaxed summers in Provence should be all about.

It's wonderful being a short drive to Apt, a handsome historic town with plenty of characterful shops, cafes and restaurants as well as the Luberon’s largest market on a Saturday morning – get there early to join locals buying seasonal produce such as Vaucluse cherries, strawberries, olives, honey, herbs, lavender products, melons and so much more depending on the time of year.

Nearby Saignon is one of the lesser known villages of the Luberon but an absolute jewel with its cobbled medieval lanes, shady squares and café terraces. There are more superb views to be enjoyed from the village’s perched setting.

Elsewhere, you are well located for visiting the likes of Gordes, Ménerbes, Roussillon and Lourmarin or head a little off the tourist trail and discover other little gems of the Luberon (Goult, Joucas, Cucuron, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt and so on). Look out for vineyards, wine châteaux, Michelin starred restaurants and Farmer’s markets as well as gorgeous walking and hiking trails, cycling routes and horse-riding across this idyllic part of Provence.

Just south of the historic Luberon town of Apt, Villa Sivergues is set within a 10-hectare domaine with stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. Arrive by train into Gare d’Avignon TGV (only 2 hours 40 minutes from Paris) and pick up a car for the 60km long journey or fly into one of the airports just outside Avignon and Marseille.

Within the vast domaine there is a hiking trail around the property eventually leading to ‘Rocher des Druïdes' as well as an old pond with glorious views towards nearby Saignon. During your stay, take time to explore hilltop Saignon (4km) with its ancient winding lanes, medieval houses and incredible views from its perched position. Enjoy lunch out on a shady café terrace in an old square before admiring vistas as far as Mont Ventoux.

There is a good range of amenities in and around Apt including a choice of large supermarkets. The town centre is a joy to explore, especially on a Saturday morning when the 900-year old market takes over the historic centre – arrive early to join locals buying a wealth of delicious local produce. The handsome town itself has gained a fine reputation for its candied fruit and is classified as a ‘site remarquable du gout’.

You are also well located for visiting other beautiful villages of the Luberon from Bonnieux (16km), Lourmarin (20km) and Gordes (23km) to slightly lesser known gems such as Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt (11km), Goult (17km), Ansouis (29km) and Cucuron (26km). Look out for dense forests, cherry orchards, vineyards and wineries, atmospheric markets and some of the best restaurants in Provence including Michelin starred establishments. The Luberon National Park also offers so many opportunities for walking, hiking and cycling through its glorious Provençal landscapes.

Further afield, embrace the history of Avignon (56km) and Aix-en-Provence (59km) for wonderful days out. Head towards L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (36km) for antique stores, riverside cafes and the famous Sunday morning brocante, not far from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (35km) loved for its spectacular natural scenery, hiking trails and canoeing/kayaking opportunities.

Region

With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.

Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.

Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.

To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.

Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.

The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Teens

Villa Sivergues is set in vast grounds with a hiking trail and incredible scenery. Children can enjoy a game of table tennis, swim in the glorious swimming pool followed by an evening game of boules before gathering by the summer kitchen for family feasts.

Across the Luberon you will find plenty of wonderful walking and hiking routes, depending on your experience, as well as horse-riding and cycling. A popular greenway cycling trail for families is La Véloroute du Calavon which follows a former railway track by the river passing beautiful landscapes, mostly car free (the trail passes near Apt where the route does pass along the road).

Enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides through vineyards, woodland and lavender fields. There’s also canoeing and kayaking near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse or further south along the Durance River, alongside a summer inflatable waterpark at Lac de Peyrolles near Pertuis.

Meanwhile, other family attractions across Provence include tree-top activity centres near Rustrel (13km) and Lagnes (32km) as well as Zoo Barben, Parc Grimmland, Le Village des Automates and Parc Spirou, all within an approximate 45 to 60-minute drive.

  • The view is beautiful!

    on 11/07/2024

The house and its environment are particularly pleasant. The view is beautiful! The house is well laid out, well decorated, very practical with children (no trinkets within reach to put away at the start of the stay and to replace before leaving...), the good-sized kitchen allows several people to get busy and 15 to 20 people naturally find their place at the table inside and outside without feeling like they are camping. The rooms and bathrooms are modern and pleasant, very popular with ladies and above all all the rooms are homogeneous which facilitates fairness in the allocations... Large spaces for wild football games, or relaxation in the Moroccan space there is something for all tastes. The obligatory group walk to the Druids’ Rock is a “highlight” in the morning and whets the appetite. We met the owners who were very attentive to their guests and who did not hesitate to buy a coffee maker to satisfy a request for filter coffee for breakfast. As you can see, we had a very good holiday with the family and we will remember this place which everyone loved!

  • Perfect

    on 01/07/2024

We had a great family week at Villa Sivergues. The house is really very pleasant and large enough for our family. The location near Apt is perfect and allows easy access to the most beautiful sites in the Luberon, the view is superb. We met several times with the owners, who did everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We would also like to thank you because we had already rented in Beaume de Venise through you in the summer of 2015 and we were also very satisfied.

  • Already booked for next year!

    on 18/05/2024

We had a good holiday in the house and already booked for next year, superb view, very pretty house decorated, with great taste, and room for everyone...Luberon center so all the villages around, perfect to take long walks or bicycle rides, thank you for your help!

  • Incredible!

  • A Wonderful Stay

    on 24/02/2024

This short note to tell you that we had a wonderful stay in Sivergues. Very nice house, comfortable and with a spectacular view . A big thank you for allowing us to finalise this rental.

  • Everyone wants to go back next year!

    on 16/09/2023

Thank you - we had a wonderful time and loved the house. It was brilliant for a large group like us with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and great long tables both outside and inside for meals. It is stylishly furnished, and what a view! It was well placed for lovely walks and for visiting the surrounding villages, markets, etc. The caretaker was very welcoming and helpful and immediately responded to any requests. All in all it was a huge success, and everyone wants to go back next year!

  • Our holiday went very well!

    on 05/08/2023

We were with 8 adults, enough space for everyone, easy to find a place to read a book or do yoga or to meet up next to the swimming pool... our holidays went very well, one week was a little too short! To visit the villages with their markets, to walk and cycle, to swim, to visit the surrounding vineyards and the pretty towns with their museums etc. 2 weeks would be better!
