There’s a welcoming owl near the entrance of this superbly restored farmhouse, completely tucked away in the Vaucluse countryside, a land of truffles, lavender, honey and good wine. Here you are in the midst of glorious plains of fields and vineyards yet not still not far from a picturesque village and all the conveniences of a small town.
Set in a huge estate, the living area, terrace and pool overlook a swathe of vineyards which lead the eye across woodland towards gently rolling tree clad hills. You’ll just want to linger with a glass of wine on the terrace or by the sparkling pool and take in the beauty of this location.
Inside is tastefully furnished, light and modern but with a few pieces such as the bookcase to remind you that this house has a history. Elegant long tables inside and out easily seat twelve people and in addition there is a characterful small table for four in the dining room which might once have been for the children of the house. The comfortable five upstairs bedrooms over two wings are rather excitingly accessed by two separate sets of stairs.
When you are ready to leave your country idyll, head towards Valréas, capital of the Enclave des Papes which has many beautiful houses as well as opportunities for shopping. There are so many interesting towns and villages to explore nearby, most with a rich historical past and several offering opportunities for wine tasting - indeed, this whole area is a paradise for wine aficionados.
For a touch of wilderness, the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park is an amazing area of unspoilt nature with many protected plant and animal species. Here you can enjoy landscapes of limestone mountains, woodlands, lavender fields, olive groves, orchards, oak and pine forests as well as the many picturesque villages to be found here, such as Venterol and Vinsobres.
The whole region provides plenty of opportunity for outdoor and family activities from riding, hiking, canoeing, mountain climbing in the Dentelles de Montmirail and mountain biking in the hills to serious cycling up famous Mont Ventoux.

Location
About the surrounding area of La ChouetteLa Chouette is tucked away in a rural location in the Vaucluse region of Provence, a short drive from a picturesque village and in the midst of glorious plains of fields and vineyards, a land of truffles, lavender, honey and good wine.
Nearby Valréas (5km), the capital of the Enclave des Papes, has many beautiful houses built in the 17th and 18th centuries as well as shopping opportunities. At the end of June the Festival of Petit Saint Jean is celebrated here when more than 350 people in traditional dress parade through the street accompanied by plenty of music and dancing.
Vaison-la-Romaine (24km) has a rich historical past with an outdoor Roman theatre as well as plenty of cafes, restaurants, shops, bakeries and supermarkets. This whole region is a paradise for wine aficionados with local Côte du Rhône varietals from Vaison and charming villages such as Roaix and Cairanne, well worth visiting for a tasting.
The Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park (35km) is an amazing 1,800 km² of unspoilt nature with 2,000 plant and around 200 protected animal species. Here you can enjoy landscapes of limestone mountains, woodlands, lavender fields, olive groves, orchards, oak and pine forests as well as the picturesque villages to be found here, such as Venterol (15km) and Vinsobres (16km).
Within the park, the small town of Nyons (19km) is renowned for its black olives with its Place des Arcades dating back to 1300, just perfect for a quiet drink. A famous Romanesque bridge arches high above the river Eygues - climb the astonishing Randonne Tower and enjoy views across the rooftops and the river.
Montelimar (39km) isn’t exactly a tourist destination but it is the perfect spot for those with a sweet tooth! It has been the home of French nougat since the 1700s, now made in modern factories as well as small ateliers using the old methods. Tours explain how it is manufactured and, most importantly, allow you to sample a range of the confectionery.
There are plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed nearby, hiking, horse- riding in Valréas (5km), kayaking at Sorgue (48km), mountain biking between Valréas (5km) and Grignan (14km) and, for more intrepid cyclists, the famous route up Mont Ventoux (54 km). There’s mountain climbing in the lacy peaks of Dentelles de Montmirail (41km) but if you are just looking for a leisurely game of golf, head towards the club at Orange (34km) or Golf De La Drôme (25km) a little nearer.

Magnificent holiday home
This house surrounded by vineyards and lavender fields is super well equipped for family vacations. The swimming pool is always in the sun and well secured. The beds are very comfortable and each room has access to a private bathroom and toilet. The shower and toilet next to the pool are super practical. The winegrower owners live not far from the house and offer tasting and purchase of their wines but also olive oil, soaps, lavender... Large supermarket 3 km away.
