Ideal for Kids Walk to Village Romantic

In one of the region’s most unspoilt villages, surrounded by captivating wild landscapes, La Maison De Village is a true gem of the Luberon National Park.  Recently restored to a beautiful standard, this village house with its private heated swimming pool, offers a perfect place to relax in stunning surroundings.

This home is brought to you by the passionate family who also discovered three incredible old hamlets, planted organic vines and fruit trees and created three wonderful places to stay; Le Hameau du Berger, Le Hameau de L’Horizon and Villa Les Terrasses, all within a short drive of La Maison De Village.

Their latest renovation is no less beautiful, yet differs by its setting in a very small yet charming Provençal village which has retained its character over the years. The views from the house and the village itself are breath-taking with stunning scenery so typical of the Luberon region. This is a hiker’s paradise with walks from the village leading to marked trails near the spectacular gorges nearby.

Inside you are greeted with a homely ambience in the characterful living-dining room so full of warmth, especially as you sit by the open-fire on cooler evenings. The beautiful blue kitchen is a delight and the ideal place for keen chefs to create a Provençal feast. If you don’t wish to cook, why not have the very friendly staff of the owner’s nearby estate deliver freshly cooked food ready to be warmed up and served to you and your guests.

There are three bedrooms on the top two floors, each with their own bath or shower rooms, including a master bedroom with a lovely claw-foot bath in the ensuite. There’s also a separate studio just beside the main house featuring a twin bedroom and a cosy living area with a sofa-bed. Everything about the style of the home is tasteful and charming with beautiful furnishings and a true Provençal atmosphere.

If you can tear yourself away from the heated swimming pool and terraced gardens with mesmerising views, within a short drive you can be exploring medieval villages such as nearby Viens or Simiane-la-Rotonde, both surrounded by fields of lavender so typical of this area. Just a little further some of Provence’s most famous archetypal villages can be discovered such as Roussillon, Bonnieux, Ménerbes and Van Gogh’s precious Gordes or follow the art trail south to Cézanne’s beloved Aix-en-Provence, only a ninety-minute drive away.

La Maison de Village is a simply wonderful home offering perfect authenticity as well as real feeling of being at one with this truly beautiful part of France.

La Maison de Village is a beautiful house set in a little village surrounded by stunning countryside. Like many villages in the Luberon region, it has remained unchanged and is an incredibly charming place to wander around, soaking up the incredible views around you.

There is a wonderful walk from the village which leads to the surrounding gorges and you can follow various marked trails through or beside the gorges. There are many outstanding hikes in this area and beyond across the Luberon National Park.

Other nearby villages include medieval Viens (6.5km) with its historical features such as the clock tower and two Maisons de Monier and also Simiane-la-Rotonde (8.5km) with its medieval centre and cobbled lanes filled with summer flowers. Both villages are surrounded by lavender fields so typical of this captivating region.

The town of Apt, with its sprawling weekly market each Saturday and Tuesday is an unmissable trip: a gem full of charm and tradition with winding streets and ancient fountains. Indulge in the local cuisine and delicacies in one of the many pavement cafes with views of the Luberon and yet more sweet-smelling lavender surround you.

Another incredible village which has maintained its original features with castles, caves and dungeons is La Tour d’Aigues (38km). Other archetypal Provencal villages are also within driving distance such as Roussillon (36km), Bonnieux (40km), Lacoste (40km), Ménerbes (47km) and Van Gogh’s precious Gordes (45km).

Be inspired by the likes of Cezanne in Aix-en-Provence (70km), one of France’s most beautiful university towns or head north to Avignon (80km), the capital of Provence, both around a 90-minute drive away.

Within the Luberon National park the charming villages and beautiful scenery offer an ideal setting for hiking, cycling, and even kayaking along the Sorgue. Other activities include the Barben Zoo, Accrobranche and horse-riding. It also goes without saying that you can try some wonderful wines from the Luberon vineyards and sample some of the best authentic cuisine at one of the many excellent auberges or restaurants scattered across this region.

Region

With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.

Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.

Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.

To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.

Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.

The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.

The Luberon National Park offers wonderful landscapes for horse-riding, cycling and hiking as well as a fantastic tree-top activity centre 23km away offering trails, bungee jumps and laser games in beautiful scenery.

There are also some excellent places for rock-climbing such as in the incredible village of Buoux.

Further afield, little guests may especially love a trip to the zoo at Zoo Barben, about 90-minutes away whilst young train enthusiasts may enjoy a visit to Le Jardi-train, just over an hour away near Carpentras.
