Close to the idyllic Luberon village of Ménerbes, La Villa Provençale is all about comfortable living in rustic surroundings, set in an acre of land with a lovely swimming pool.
Formerly a Provençal farmhouse, this villa has been renovated to seamlessly blend contemporary interiors with a handful of original features. The kitchen-diner is perfectly modern, with sliding doors opening up to the pretty pergola whilst exposed wood beams remind you of the farmhouse’s past. There are four bedrooms with space for up to 8 guests whether staying in one of the three doubles, two of which are en suite, or the simple but sweet twin, best suited to children.
Enjoy al-fresco meals in the shade of the pergola or prepare barbecue feasts on the terrace. The heated swimming pool is great for lazy days in the garden, surrounded by south-facing lawns and grassland. It’s a pretty setting with a relaxed vibe, ideal for a holiday in Provence with family or a small group of friends.
Just 3km away is the hilltop village of Ménerbes, an absolutely delightful place with narrow lanes and charming cafes, restaurants and shops. Soak up the ambience at the Farmer’s market on a Thursday morning – food lovers also note the fantastic Provençal markets in nearby Coustellet, Apt and Cavaillon (as well as many other villages and towns across the Luberon).
Visit the lavender fields near Gordes, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and cycle or hike through landscapes of vineyards, summer sunflowers, orchards and olive groves – no wonder the likes of Cézanne and Van Gogh were so inspired by this scenery.
Then there’s the archetypal perched villages of Roussillon, Lacoste and Bonnieux amongst others as well as incredibly beautiful towns and cities within an hour including Avignon and Aix-en-Provence for the perfect day out.

Location
About the surrounding area of La Villa ProvencaleLa Villa Provençale is set in the heart of the Luberon National Park in a great location for exploring many of the idyllic landscapes and perched villages of this glorious region.
Set just off a country road, it is just 3km by car to reach hilltop Ménerbes, a picturesque village where Frances Mayes’ wrote his famous book ‘A Year in Provence’. Explore its narrow, steep lanes and come across charming cafes, restaurants and little shops. The Thursday morning Farmer’s market is delightful whilst music-lovers should check to see if there are any classical concerts taking place during their stay.
Other great villages to visit include the beautifully restored medieval village of Lacoste, only 7km away, and Coustellet (9km) home to one of the best Farmer’s markets in Provence on a Sunday morning. The lavender fields around Gordes (10km) are also a must, as are the idyllic hilltop villages of Bonnieux, Roussillon and Oppède. Food lovers will also appreciate the fantastic twice-weekly Provençal market in Apt (18km) which is especially impressive on a Saturday morning.
Then there’s some incredible hiking trails, such as the 3hr circular walk between Bonnieux and Lacoste, passing vineyards, little farms and woodland or the more challenging Gorges de Regalon to the south. Cycling is also popular both on and off-road with various circuits including La Véloroute du Calavon following the old railway line close to nearby Les Beaumettes.
Of course, the Provençal towns and cities of Avignon (40km), Aix-en-Provence (62km) and Saint-Rémy (38km) are close enough for wonderful days. Spend time admiring the gorgeous scenery of Les Alpilles, perhaps visiting some of the area’s pretty medieval villages such as Eygalières and Les Baux-de-Provence, both under an hour away. Cavaillon is another interesting town to visit, especially in the summer when melons are in season!

Region
With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.
Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.
Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.
To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.
Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.
The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe landscapes of the Luberon will inspire every age with glorious views wherever you go. Look out for family-friendly walks through woodland, olive groves and villages or follow some of the easier cycling trail such as the newly paved Véloroute du Calavon which follows an old railway line.
Kayaking along the Sorgue is another popular pursuit and there is also a tree-top activity centre close to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse with activities for all ages from the age of three, depending on height.
Le Jarditrain is a lovely place for young and old train enthusiasts who adore model railways whilst the caves at Grottes de Thouzon are also impressive (there are usually guided tours in French). The amusement park, Parc Spirou Provence, may be a good day out to consider as well – all within an hour heading north towards Carpentras.
Barben Zoo is also around an hour by car and features hundreds of animals as well as reptiles and a much-loved playground.

Happiness!
A beautiful house where everything is happiness ...! We have never seen a house as well equipped and with so many accessories to cook. Holidays are also about taking to time to prepare one's favourite dishes and this house doesn't lack anything. The decoration is very beautiful and the layout of the house is ideal for 8 people. The garden is beautiful, the lavender welcomed us and the pool helped us to relax. Thank you very much and we retain this beautiful address without failing to highly recommend it.

A week in Provence !
We felt immediately at home in this charming house which rests in a quiet, rural environment. It is within easy reach of the lovely Luberon villages. Bedding is excellent, bathrooms are great, the kitchen is well equipped, and a dip in the pool is refreshing. Without hesitation, we would recommend it. We would be back !

A lovely spot
We arrived in the rain and even then the house looked wonderful. It is well equipped and well laid out with some nice touches in the bedrooms, three of which have ensuite bathrooms. In fact the photos do not do it justice and the garden is also lovely and very spacious. It is 3 km to Menerbes and manageable by bike, in fact a perfect area for cycling as well as walking. Coustellet is only a ten minute drive away with its shops, supermarket etc and great Sunday market. The owners could not have been more helpful and left us three lovely bottles of local wine. We will most certainly go back!
