Overview
Nestled amidst fragrant lavender fields and the rugged peaks of the Alpilles, Le Mas Illuminé offers contemporary accommodation for up to 10 guests, in a beautiful building which started life as a historic sheepfold.
As you travel through the 2.5 acres of private grounds and olive groves which envelop the centuries-old home, you will be transported back in time, to enjoy a slower pace of life during your French escape. If you are searching for the perfect holiday home, where you can spend time with your closest friends or your family, this two-storey house with expansive gardens is just what you have been looking for.
From the outside, the house looks like a pretty yet typical farm building with rustic stone work, terracotta rooftiles and shuttered windows. This is the ideal setting for a holiday in the Provençal countryside. These historic details continue as you step inside the home, with original flooring, fireplaces and stone work found throughout. The home is not dated however and has been tastefully modernised throughout to create an inviting house with rooms filled with high-quality furnishings and all of the facilities you could need for a comfortable stay. Air conditioning, Wi-Fi, TVs and laundry facilities are on offer, along with extras such as a pool table and table football which are brilliant for entertaining the kids.
The home is spread between the main building and an additional studio. The ground floor of the main dwelling is the social hub of the home, where you can come together to dine or enjoy drinks in the evening, in either the formal dining room or one of the cosy living rooms. There is additional seating in the fully-fitted kitchen which opens out on to the terrace.
The bedrooms of Le Mas Illuminé are all spacious, boasting double beds and views over the leafy garden. One of these rooms is set on the ground floor of the main home and there are three more bedrooms on the first floor. One of these is the main suite with a dressing area and an en-suite bathroom with a tempting bathtub. The other two are also large double rooms which share a splendid shower room.
The final bedroom is located in a private studio space just next to the swimming pool. With its own kitchen and dining area, a double bed and a bathroom, the studio would suit a couple wishing for some privacy while travelling with the larger party.
Outdoors, the garden is the cherry on top of this fantastic home and is a vast area filled with lawns, established trees and floral planting. Covered terraces provide shelter during the heat of the day, for you to lounge or dine al-fresco, while those who prefer to bask in the sun can opt for a poolside sun lounger. The private heated swimming pool is located at the heart of the garden and just next to this there is a hot tub, great for a relaxing soak after a long walk!
If you can bring yourself to leave the house and gardens, the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is only 4km away and offers a brilliant range of shops, markets and eateries. This is just one of the many towns and villages nearby, there are plenty more for you to discover during your trip. If you prefer a bustling city filled with cultural attractions, you could drive to the city of Avignon, known for its Papal links, which is 28km away.

Location
About the surrounding area of Le Mas IllumineLooking out over the rugged landscape of the Regional Park of the Alpilles, in Provence, Le Mas Illuminé enjoys an idyllic setting within easy reach of both stunning countryside and quaint French towns. Guests of the home can make the most of the amazing surroundings, get to know more about local history and tuck in to some delicious regional dishes while on a trip to the South of France.
It would be a shame to visit Provence and not spend a day or two immersing yourself in nature. There is so much on offer here for sports and outdoor enthusiasts that everybody in your party will find something they love! Within 10km of the home, you will find mountainous peaks, scenic walking trails, mountain biking routes, hot air balloon rides, horse-back rides and golf! For those who are less sporty and enjoy the finer things in life, why not take a trip to a local vineyard for a wine tasting event or stroll through some of Provence’s famous lavender fields.
Aside from the incredible natural sites and sporting opportunities nearby, you will also be spoiled for choice when it comes to villages, towns and cities to discover. The closest town to the house is a mere 4km away, so you can find yourself sipping your morning coffee in a lively town square within a short drive. The town is called Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and is a historic settlement packed with market stalls, restaurants, bars and shops, providing all you will need during your trip, if you do not wish to stray any further from the villa. If you wish to get to know the town a bit better at the start of your trip, booking on to a guided tour with a knowledgeable guide is a great idea, then you may find some inspiration for places to visit on the following days. If you are an art-lover, you will be thrilled to learn that Saint-Rémy-de-Provence was once the home of artist Vincent van Gogh who lived in the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole monastery which also served as the town’s asylum, during a tumultuous time in his life. The artist produced over 100 works of art during his time here and as you stroll the streets of the town with your free audio guide from the visitor’s centre, you can look out for some of the buildings featured in his paintings. There are also galleries and museums in town, so lots for you to see and do.
Eygalières is another lovely place you can spend the day and is 8.5km away from the villa. As it has been inhabited since the Bronze age, the village is steeped in history, which you can see as you pass the ancient ruins on the way in. Much of the village we see today is from the 17th century, such as the bath house, historic churches and the bell tower. Though the village is small in size, it has a huge character and plenty going on such as local festivals and feast days which are celebrated communally in the streets. The Fete de la St Laurent is one such celebration and on this day, horse shows, fairground rides and tables bursting with food fill the square. The village also boasts a good range of cafes, shops and patisseries which are a welcome rest-stop for cyclists on the nearby trails.
If you do not mind driving a little further out, the city of Avignon is 28km away and well-worth the drive. In the city, you can visit the Pope’s palace, take a boat trip down the River River Rhône and shop in the wide array of boutiques and artisan shops.
