Overview

Pool Villa/House Ideal for Kids

The gloriously spacious grounds of this beautifully renovated house come with an olive grove, a heated swimming pool, fountain, oleander hedges and sun terrace, all completely enclosed and lined with mature cypress trees. The additional redolence of jasmine and lavender will leave you in no doubt that you are in Provence - indeed, just outside Eygalières, one of the most picturesque hill top villages in Les Alpilles.

Comfortable sun loungers and elegant parasols are perfect for lounging after your swim in the heated pool before enjoying a meal in the shade on one of the terraces. Inside is simply and prettily furnished to create a warm, homely atmosphere alongside touches of elegance such as the white stone staircase and the mezzanine overlooking the living area, the ideal performance space for any musicians in your group! In one of the bedrooms you can lie beneath the canopied double bed with doors open onto the garden, ready for sunrise and the dawn chorus.

There is a wealth of activities to be found in this lovely area of vineyards, idyllic villages, world-renowned towns and summer sunflowers of Les Alpilles Natural Park and the nearby mountain ranges of the Luberon. A short drive away is chic and cosmopolitan St-Rémy-de-Provence, once the source of creativity for Van Gogh and now inspiring the resident artists who sell their work in local galleries. There are also some great eating places here, including Michelin starred restaurants - food lovers shouldn’t miss trying out some regional wine and produce at the town’s famous Wednesday morning market.

After exploring beautiful Eygalières, enjoy a trip to the charming village of Mollégès or head south to Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s acclaimed ‘plus beaux villages’. Avignon and the historic city of Arles are within reach as is the the wild countryside, beaches, iconic white horses and pink flamingos of La Camargue. There are so many activities to be found in this whole area, from golf, riding, trekking, mountain biking, hot air ballooning, climbing to canoeing and quad biking.

You are within an extraordinary area of vineyards, idyllic villages, world-renowned towns, and summer sunflowers in Les Alpilles Natural Park and beyond. Eygalières is a short drive away, is one of the loveliest in the whole region and here you will find charming restaurants and maybe a house or two belonging to a couple of A-list celebrities!

The pretty village of Mollégès can easily be reached by a little road which winds through the countryside providing glimpses of orchards, avenues of cypress trees and swathes of wild flowers, always with the stunning backdrop of the hills.

Within easy reach is also the chic town of St-Rémy-de-Provence (10km), once the source of creativity for Van Gogh and now inspiring the resident artists who sell their work in local galleries. Gastronomers will enjoy the Michelin starred restaurants here as well as the Wednesday morning market.

You will love Les Baux-de-Provence (19km), one of France’s acclaimed ‘plus beaux villages’ a medieval jewel perfectly perched on a rocky outcrop. A few kilometres south from Les Baux is the charming village of Mausanne, set in the Vallée des Baux and well known for its excellent olive oil produced in its two remaining windmills, which you are able to sample.

Nearby Cavaillon, a city bridge between Les Alpilles and the Luberon, is ideal for relaxing in its terraced cafés, shopping and buying melons from the markets. Don’t forget to look at the most beautiful synagogue in Europe and the 12th century cathedral. In the centre is the verdant St Jacques’s Hill which can be climbed for magnificent views over the surrounding regions.

Having explored the local town and villages, travel northwards towards the river Rhône and the medieval city of Avignon with its two UNESCO world heritage sites, the Pope’s Palace and Saint Benezet Bridge. The weekend farmer’s, flower and flea markets sell good local produce as well as a bargain or two.

For more adventure head south west towards the historic city of Arles, well known for its fascinating Roman remains and gateway to the wonders of La Camargue with its beaches, lagoons, rice fields, galloping white horses and iconic pink flamingos. There are many family activities to be found here including horse riding, trekking, quad biking and jeep tours across this fascinating landscape.

The energetic will love the rock-climbing, mountain biking and horse riding in Les Alpilles and a trip to the fantastic tree-top activity centre in Salon-de-Provence.
The Via Ferrata in Cavaillon has routes up St Jacques’s Hill, some involving wires, bridges and caves, ideal for youngsters and parents who have some indoor climbing experience. No supervision is given but safety equipment can be hired.

There’s quad biking and trekking in the wilderness of La Camargue where the 600 hectares of the Domaine Méjanes estate offer the chance to sightsee in a variety of ways – take a pony, the small train or hire bikes to explore this fabulous wildlife sanctuary.

Travel to Avignon to take a boat trip or canoe on the Rhône, dance and sing on the medieval bridge or ride on the small road-train that tours the city, sure to please both kids and parents.

Go for a spot of lunch at the café depicted by Van Gogh’s Terrasse Du Café Le Soir in Arles and look afterwards for the easels left around town depicting the paintings the artist created on each spot.
