Overview
Les Lauriers Roses offers guests the quintessential rustic, yet elegant, country retreat. Tucked in a secluded corner of Provence, this home provides flawless attention to detail, within an atmosphere of “cosy luxury.” Blending the best of old and new: original stonework and architecture along with cutting-edge design and contemporary comforts. Exquisitely renovated, the spirit of the original nineteenth century building remains. Pretty shutters frame the façade, whilst the creamy-toned original stone is exposed internally, along with timber beams and original doors.
The lawns are just the right level of maintained and delightfully unkempt in places, glorious fruit trees, swaying poplars and vibrant shrubbery along with sweeping gravel drive and dappled terrace.
When it comes to al fresco dining, the grounds are punctuated with inviting nooks: for a quiet coffee at the wrought-iron bistro set, a children’s post-swim snack in the dappled shade, or a lively cocktail party gathered at the smart outdoor lounge banquettes. A light-filled summer house offers a sleek dining pavilion, ideal for pool parties or summer barbecues. The pool is framed by a terrace dotted with loungers, for cooling off when the Mediterranean heat ramps up.
Fourteen guests can be accommodated across seven bedrooms and six bathrooms. Each of these has a distinct feel, whether it be the buttercup yellow room with salmon-pink silk shades, embroidered flower-print eiderdowns or oil paintings alongside porcelain carafes and wicker reading chairs. Antique dressers, ethnic prints and mid-century furniture rub shoulders with fabulous monochrome upholstery, splashes of vivacious modern art and slick designer lighting. Its lack of uniformity adds to this home’s appeal.
The farmhouse kitchen is ideal for self-catering, with a central oak dining table, whether it be lazy breakfasts or a pre-dinner amuse-bouche. With separate reception rooms, comprising reading room and open plan lounge-dining room, guests have ample space to convene as a group or spread out.
Les Lauriers Roses is in a tranquil spot, less than ten minutes from the lively Saint Rémy de Provence, which is known for its bustling arts community, as well as its café-lined squares and renowned Wednesday market. Les Baux de Provence is a further fifteen minutes away, famous for its tenth century fortified castle and myriad of medieval homes, cobbled streets and squares. A little further afield UNESCO-listed Pont d’Avignon, or the charming Arles, much beloved by tortured Expressionist Van Gogh can be enjoyed.
Set between the Carmargue and Luberon in Western Provence, lies the spectacular Alpilles Natural Park, known for its intriguing breadth of plant varieties and bird species, as well as its craggy beauty encompassing limestone ranges, marshlands and olive groves.

The Alpilles (‘small Alps’) offer a limestone mountain range of both wetlands and rocky terrain, shaped by over four thousand years of civilisation. At the heart of the Alpilles range, visitors will be able to explore traditional, pretty villages such as Eygalières and Paradou, many of which have earned the status of “plus beaux villages.” History buffs will enjoy archaeological sites such as the Caisses de Jean-Jean Oppidum, the Roman site of Barbegal and the Fontvieille Hypogea.

Known for its arts heritage, most notably former home of Van Gogh, today this region retains a thriving arts community. Local artists display work in the galleries of Saint Rémy, and along the Route des Artistes on selected Sundays.
Arles, much beloved by Van Gogh, boasts UNESCO listed Roman monuments, as well as museums, Roman theatres, and winding medieval streets. The photography event takes place every summer drawing an International crowd.
Avignon is about half an hour away (24 km), known for its famous Pont, which has an intriguing history dating back to the Middle Ages, whilst Les Baux de Provence is dramatically perched atop the limestone Alpilles Mountains and boasts a fortified tenth century castle as well as quintessential Provençal charm.
Whether it be sumptuous Provençal dining, luscious and unspoilt nature, designer boutiques and a touch of Mediterranean glamour, Provence is a place which draws visitors back, time and time again.

Best Suited For: All AgesWhen it comes to holidaying as a family, Provence is difficult to beat! Outdoors enthusiasts will have endless options, from rock-climbing craggy limestone ranges to ambling through gentle valleys dotted with pretty villages, to discovering lavender-scented trails on horseback or by kayak The Alpilles (‘small Alps’) offer trails suitable for all levels.
History lovers will be able to admire the region from the fortified castle of Les Baux de Provence, whilst budding artists will enjoy following the Van Gogh path around Saint Rémy.
St Rémy’s old centre has a pedestrian-friendly lay-out, a smattering of chic boutiques and lots of family-friendly restaurants. The Wednesday market is one of the biggest, and most popular, in the area. Children in particular will enjoy the Joël Durand chocolate shop, where visitors can enjoy ganache-filled samples or buy chocolate-covered ice cream bars.
Les Baux de Provence castle is dramatically perched atop a limestone hill. During summer months there are re-enactments of medieval military battles that will bring history to life for youngsters; there is also an audio-guide, a smartphone app and even a free activity book suitable for children from seven to twelve.
Open from ten till six daily, the Zoo at Baraben boasts more than one hundred and thirty species from elephants to antelopes. The Musée Granet in Aix en Provence (hometown to Cézanne) offers weekly art workshops for children (worth booking in advance).
Accrobranche is a French national pastime where both adults and children can swing through the trees attached to a harness; with various levels from the age of five up, it’s both a confidence booster as well as great way to take in the scenery.
