Lounging by the heated swimming pool, you are surrounded by the sights of Provence – towering cypresses, olive trees and the mesmerising Alpilles in the distance. Within walking distance to a beautiful village, Les Peupliers is a wonderful holiday home for both relaxing in and exploring this enchanting part of southern France.

The vast gardens are a joy with so much to discover as you wander around the 1.3 hectare estate. Weave through the olive grove, come across almond trees and pines, admire fish and water lilies in the ponds and listen to the gentle sounds of cicadas. Enjoy a bottle of Côtes de Provence wine with family or friends on the stone terrace, then dine al-fresco by the barbecue. Les Peupliers is all about fine outdoor living in glorious Provençal surroundings.

The mas offers space inside with a sociable living room and a superb kitchen and dining area, filled with light from its large windows. There are four well-sized bedrooms in the main farmhouse and a further four in a pretty annexe, each benefitting from its own bathroom. Original characteristics remain throughout the home, accompanied by modern touches such as Wi-Fi, a Sonos music system and air-conditioning in each of the bedrooms. The traditional wine cellar is another wonderful feature of this charming abode.

Stroll down the road and in around 1km you are in the heart of Eygalières, a picturesque village where a couple of A-list celebrities have chosen to buy holiday homes. No wonder with its pretty lanes, lovely cafes and restaurants and atmospheric Friday morning market. Or hop in the car and head to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, 12km away, an enchanting town so inspirational to Van Gogh and filled with artistic character and charm.

The landscapes of Les Alpilles are filled with olive groves, orchards and woodland, perfect for walking, cycling and horse-riding or spend time visiting other idyllic villages such as Les Baux-de-Provence and Maussane. Heading east, the beguiling scenery of the Luberon is also close by or discover the beauty of Avignon and its UNESCO World Heritage sites, just half an hour by car.

Follow further footsteps of Van Gogh in Arles or Gordes or simply stay at home and appreciate the picture-perfect scenery from this inviting and delightful mas

In the Parc Naturel Régional des Alpilles, Les Peupliers is just outside the beautiful Provençal village of Eygalières.

Just off the country road leading to the village, you can walk to Eygalières in around fifteen minutes. It is a village full of charm – no wonder a handful of A-list celebrities have chosen to buy properties here away from the prying eye of the paparazzi. There is a grocery store, boulangerie and butchers as well as lovely restaurants and cafes. Explore the narrow pretty lanes, passing fountains and gorgeous houses, and walk to the top of the village for amazing views. The Friday morning market is a particular delight with its Provençal ambience.

Just a short drive away is the wonderful town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (12km), also home to a fantastic weekly market as well as excellent restaurants, galleries and art studios. Follow the Van Gogh trail around the town and finish off at the Monastère Saint-Paul de Mausole where the artist spent the last days of his life.

One of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Les Baux-de-Provence (21km), is another picturesque village to visit – head early or late to avoid the summer crowds as it is such an idyllic place with its impressive castle and stunning surroundings. Close by, Maussane-les-Alpilles is perfect for lunch out or a stroll around its little shops – this village produces some of France’s best olive oil.

A beautiful golf course can be found near Les Baux-de-Provence and this region is also perfect for horse-riding, rock-climbing, cycling and wonderful walks through glorious Provençal landscapes.

Avignon (28km) is an easy drive north, home to yet more fantastic restaurants, vibrant markets and historic sights including the incredible Palais des Papes, a UNESCO World heritage site.

The captivating Luberon region can be reached in around half an hour. Visit iconic hilltop villages such as Oppède and Ménerbes or head further towards the lavender fields and Gordes (33km), another one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and much loved by Van Gogh.

Discover antiques in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (26km), canoe or kayak through idyllic scenery around Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (30km) or head to the handsome town of Arles (36km) with its galleries, art trails and more.

Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just a short drive away, is wonderful for young art lovers who can visit the galleries and little art studios as well as following the Van Gogh trail around the town, ending at Monastère Saint-Paul de Mausole. The archaeological site of Glanum is also just south of Saint-Rémy.

Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is the place to go if you wish to discover stunning landscapes by canoe or kayak – head along the Sorgue river as far as L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, an enchanting town with waterways and little shops selling antiques, as well as a superb Sunday morning market. The UNESCO World Heritage site, Le Pont Du Gard, is another lovely spot for canoe hire, around one hour away by car.
