Overview
The blue shuttered windows frame the prettiest of Luberon views at this gorgeous countryside home close to the medieval village of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt. Whether gazing out towards the olive groves and hills from the terrace, cooling off in the swimming pool or relaxing in the garden by the roses, this is a picture-perfect base for making the most of this captivating part of Provence.
Maison Du Ciel Rose sleeps up to 12 guests across this inviting home with three beautiful bedrooms in the main house, one in a vine-covered annexe and two more in a stone cottage also within the grounds. There is a range of queen-size double and twin beds whilst each bedroom has its own private bath or shower room. They have been decorated with such care – admire charming furnishings, artwork and, best of all, those mesmerising Luberon vistas from many of the bedrooms.
The country kitchen is a chef’s dream – pick up a wealth of seasonal produce from local markets to cook up Provençal feasts to be enjoyed outside on the terrace overlooking the swimming pool and olive trees below. The lounge’s corner sofa surrounds the grand fireplace and the snug is the ideal spot to cosy up and watch the Smart TV.
Sip coffee by the roses as family members or friends swim in the large swimming pool, then soak up the warm summer sun on the poolside terrace with the Luberon views glistening in the distance. When you feel ready to leave your slow-paced getaway, it’s less than a 5km drive to the perched medieval village of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt with its inviting restaurants, cobbled lanes, old stone fountains and beautiful doorways surrounded by yet more glorious Provençal scenery. Don’t miss the Tuesday morning market and make sure you try the local cherries, olive oil and wine produced near the village.
The Saturday morning market in nearby Apt is another great experience, the largest in the Luberon with up to 300 stalls in the summer months. Other wonderful places to visit include the iconic perched villages of Roussillon, Gordes, Bonnieux and Lourmarin, all classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’.
Discover incredible walking and hiking opportunities, come across amazing restaurants and pretty markets and cycle past poppy and lavender fields as you explore the Luberon and beyond. Kayak or canoe along the Sorgue River from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, potter around the antique stores of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and you could even venture to two jewels of Provence for a grand day out with Avignon and Aix-en-Provence both around an hour away by car.

Region
With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.
Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.
Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.
To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.
Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.
The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesSurrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the Luberon, families can enjoy the tranquil environment of Maison Du Ciel Rose with its swimming pool and pretty garden. Older teens may appreciate a little independence by choosing one of the three bedrooms in the annexe or cottage whilst younger children can stay in one of the three bedrooms (including one twin) in the main house. There are board games and some children's books. A high chair can be requested (the property has no cot).
Just outside Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt (5km) there is a tennis club whilst the village is home to a boulodrome and a municipal swimming pool in the summer months.
For cycling enthusiasts, a good place to start is the Luberon’s La Véloroute du Calavon, a voie verte created along a former railway line which runs between Beaumettes and Saint-Martin-de-Castillon, passing through Apt. Only a small part of the route is shared with motor vehicles, otherwise it passes fields of lavender, poppies and orchards.
The Luberon is also home to wonderful walks, rock-climbing (in Buoux), fascinating fortresses and a wealth of charming medieval villages to discover. Colorado Aventures is around 15km away with tree-top trails and other adventures suitable for children (the activities start at the age of 3+, depending on height).
Just over half an hour away is Fontaine-de-Vaucluse where you will be able to find canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue River, more tree-top adventures and further family-friendly activities.

Would love to go back.
Lovely place as described. Beautifully decorated and welcoming house with a separate annex and self-contained cottage. Lots of space/privacy for larger groups. A delightful terraced area overlooks the pool, olive groves and neighbouring vineyards of Luberon. The owner was very kind and helpful during our stay. Would love to go back.

Beautiful
Beautiful French country estate on a hillside surrounded by vineyards. The home and grounds were beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay. There are 3 separate homes on the property in order to fit 12 guests, each offering a unique experience. A short drive gets you to a cafe's and boulangeries.
