In a secluded position in the beautiful Luberon National Park, Maison Orange is a delightful four bedroom family home, perfect for guests wanting to both relax in glorious surroundings as well as explore this captivating region.
The 17th century farmhouse has been completely renovated to create a warm and welcoming holiday home which has been styled with a creative flair with interesting furnishings and historic pieces complementing modern comfort and sometimes minimalist style. The owner’s love of art, literature and travel can be seen across the home from contemporary art adorning the walls to shelves full of books collected over the years. Whether lounging in the vaulted, arched living and dining room downstairs or relaxing in the upper level TV room, there is room for everyone whether staying with family and friends in this charming home.
Step outside where you can enjoy your morning coffee on the stone table overlooking the olive tree, gardens and swimming pool or embrace the warmth of the sun in the outdoor lounge area. The pretty swimming pool is surrounded by lawn, perfect for sun bathing after taking a dip whilst the typically Provençal gardens lead on to vineyards and olive groves.
It’s only a five-minute drive to the charming village where you can wander the medieval streets and enjoy magnificent views as you ascend. The bustling atmosphere on a Tuesday morning is wonderful as the market takes over the main square by the large fountain, stay on for lunch in one of the handful of restaurants, some with tables under the impressive plane trees of the village square.
There are idyllic villages across the Luberon for you to explore, from nearby Vaugines (4km) where Jean de Florette was filmed to historic La Tour d’Aigues (12km) and archetypal Bonnieux (20km). Food lovers should head to Apt (26km) on a Saturday morning for one of the region’s best markets and the lovely University city of Aix-en-Provence is only forty minutes away by car.
This region is also a nature enthusiast’s paradise with mesmerising trails through the countryside and hills ideal for horse-riding, hiking and cycling with inspirational landscapes surrounding you. This is the Luberon, one of Provence’s most intensely beautiful regions and at Maison Orange you are in the heart of it.

Location
About the surrounding area of Maison OrangeIt’s just a five-minute drive to a charming village, which is especially atmospheric on a Tuesday morning with its weekly market on the main square by the glorious fountain in the heart of the village. There are a few restaurants, little shops, a small supermarket and beautiful historical buildings to explore in the medieval streets. As you climb up the village the views get even more stunning. If you stay in the summer months look out for concerts taking place in the village church.
The very old village of Vaugines (3km) is also just five minutes away, made famous for a while to the films "Jean de Florette" and "Manon des Sources" being filmed here.
In the surrounding countryside there are farms producing cherries, melons, olives and some wonderful wines. Indeed, there are some wonderful walks and mountain bike routes in the nearby area and horse-riding opportunities too. The Luberon National Park offers an ideal setting for hiking, cycling, and even kayaking along the Sorgue further north near L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (46km).
There are climbing opportunities near Buoux (20km), a tiny village with a castle not to be missed and now a mecca for rock-climbing. Wine lovers will appreciate all the amazing wineries in the local area whilst more family friendly activities in the region include tree-top activity centres, a zoo at La Barben and model railway south of Carpentras.

Region
With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.
Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.
Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.
To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.
Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.
The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesProvence is a wonderful place for families with kids of all ages. There is a wealth of characterful villages, towns and cities to discover across the region. Enjoy the carousel in Aix-en-Provence and take a picnic to one of the city’s parks before riding the little tourist road-train for a kid friendly tour of the city. Visit a typical Provençal market across the Luberon region and try some amazing new foods or simply wander around charming villages soaking up the atmosphere.
Create memories by kayaking along the Sorgue to the north in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (46km). The Luberon also offers wonderful trails for walking, cycling and horse-riding in the area.
Young and old train lovers alike will adore the model railway, the JardiTrain (60km), just south of Carpentras or the more adventurous can discover the fantastic Tree-Top activity centres in the Luberon. Animal lovers should head to Zoo Barben (33km) with over 600 species of animals across several hectares of land.

Great family vacation, pure Provence
We spent a week with 5 adults and 2 children in this beautiful house. It is much nicer than in the pictures, in the middle of the vineyards, undisturbed and yet close to Cucuron. Great pool, plenty of seating outside in the garden. Nice welcome with good briefing, the house was very clean. Great boules court at the back of the garden with a view of the vines.
