Pool Villa/House
Great Value
Ideal for Kids Walk to Village

This modern, three-bedroom home is set in an idyllic location; with country lanes and hiking trails all around you and the amenities of the village within walking distance this is a great base for exploring this area.

Villa Chagall is situated in a leafy neighbourhood on the outskirts of Oppède village. As you arrive at the property, you will find yourself within fenced grounds, accessed by an electric gate for privacy and security, the home is enveloped by a landscaped garden with tall trees and native planting, offering a peaceful outlook from the vast windows which line all the rooms of the house, allowing the natural light to pour in.

The villa is spread over two floors: downstairs are the living areas which are all interconnected to create a social space. There are comfy sofas which you can curl up in with a good book or to watch a film together and a spacious dining table which is ideal for gathering at breakfast time. Winding further around the ground floor is the contemporary fitted kitchen which has everything you need for preparing a sumptuous meal with fresh, local ingredients including a coffee machine to brew your morning coffee which you can enjoy on the sunny terrace.

There are three bedrooms available at the villa, one of which is on the ground floor. If you are travelling with elderly relatives or if you wish for a little privacy from the rest of the party, then this room could be perfect. The bedroom is bright and airy with pops of colour coming from the soft furnishings, the room also boasts an en-suite bathroom and access to a furnished patio.

Upstairs there are two further bedrooms which are both double rooms. Each of these rooms is painted in a neutral colour scheme and looks out on to the stunning garden. These two bedrooms share a bathroom which is located between them on the first floor.

Outside, the garden really lends itself to outdoor living as there is so much space for enjoying the great weather. You can find a large covered dining terrace, outdoor sofas and an inviting private pool lined by sun loungers. Unwind in this brilliant outside space surrounded by trees and colourful shrubbery.

If you wish to head out early for some fresh pastries for breakfast then you can easily reach the village of Oppède.

If you wish to go out for a few drinks or dinner in the evening, you can take the short trip to Oppède. This small, typically Provençal village has tennis courts, a bakery, a couple of restaurants and a bar so is really handy to have so near to the villa. Surrounding the house there are also plenty of natural spaces for you to discover, including ancient woodlands and vast parklands which are fantastic for cycling or hiking. Animal lovers can also look out for over 300 species of protected birds whilst out on a walk.

Oppède is actually a village of two halves: the half close to the home is the newer part on flatter, more accessible ground where the villagers relocated to from the old village which is now referred to as Oppède le Vieux. The old village is located 1.5km away from the villa and offers even more shops and eateries for you to visit. Oppède le Vieux looks as if time has stood still here as the village was left abandoned for several hundred years when the villagers left this hard-to-reach mountainside landscape. Though an artistic community moved here in the 1940s, little has changed and you can walk around the pretty, medieval streets of the village which was first built over 1000 years ago. The village has a rich history, with crumbling castle ruins, defensive walls and charming churches. As night falls, the village square is lit by candles and fairy lights and is serene dinner location.

Another nearby village which is a must-see is called Ménerbes. The village ranks highly in a list of France’s most beautiful villages and is just 5km away from Villa Chagall. The picturesque, winding streets of the village are the ideal place to wander around inside the old walls. You are able to sit al-fresco in a café to watch the world go by while sampling local delicacies such as truffles before visiting the castle ruins and clock tower. If you are interested in the author Peter Mayle you can also join a tour which will take you to his former home. Mayle wrote the fabulous book 'A Year in Provence' which made this little village popular.

This area is packed with amazing villages that you can visit. Within easy reach is the unique, red-toned village of Roussillon which is 18km away and the stunning village of Bonnieux and its Roman bridge are just 16km away. The city of Avignon is also a wonderful place to visit and is packed with historic and cultural attractions, Avignon is located 35km away so you can be there in under an hour.

Region

With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.

Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.

Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.

To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.

Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.

The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.

With wide-open countryside, lots of historic attractions and family-friendly villages to discover, Provence has long been a family favourite. Close to a number of historic villages and natural spaces, Villa Chagall is a wonderful base for a trip to this diverse region.

If you would like to spend a day making memories together in staggering surroundings, a day trip to the Sorgue River is a great idea. This long crystal-clear river is under 30km away from the villa and is somewhere you can spend a full day. There are scenic walking routes and picnic spots where you can sit and spot beavers and fish along the river. You can also go kayaking here; if you are experienced you can simply hire kayaks and if you would like to go out with a guide you can book a lesson and a supervised kayak trip.
