Maison Abeille is in the heart of a small village in Les Alpilles a short stroll from the boulangerie, grocery store, café and the famous restaurant, Le Bistrot du Paradou. Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, is only a 10-minute drive away.

Up to 6 guests can stay in this air-conditioned holiday abode where Provençal charm meets modern style. The chic lounge opens out to the contemporary kitchen-diner and there are two bedrooms downstairs with king-size double beds and en suite bathrooms. Follow the striking staircase up to the third en suite bedroom and a games lounge with billiard table.

Within the enclosed garden it’s lovely to be able to enjoy breakfast outside and make the most of the small heated swimming pool with its decked terrace and sun loungers. Pots of summer colour, shady trees and Provençal plants add to the character of this village house.

Paradou is a little village with a wealth of charm – make sure you pre-book a table for lunch at Le Bistrot du Paradou for menu of the day. What’s more, Maussane-les-Alpilles is only 2km away with its foodie shops, pretty village square with restaurant terraces and Thursday morning market showcasing produce of Provence and beyond.

Hire bikes in the village to explore the beautiful landscapes of Les Alpilles or follow walking trails through olive groves and forest. You are perfectly located for visiting Van Gogh’s beloved Arles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence for art and history whilst other gems of the wider region include Le Pont du Gard, Avignon and the picture-perfect perched villages of the Luberon.

Maison Abeille is located in the tiny village of Paradou in Les Alpilles Regional Natural Park, around a 40-minute drive south of Avignon.

This is the very heart of the small village, next to the townhall, grocery store, butchers, boulangerie and a café-restaurant with tables on the street. Only 200m further is Rick Stein’s beloved Le Bistro du Paradou (do book ahead).

Hire bikes in the village to explore the local area passing olive groves, forest and idyllic vistas of the limestone peaks. Only 2km away is Maussane-les-Alpilles, a bustling Provençal village with inviting little shops, restaurant terraces on the main square and a lovely Thursday morning market. Both Maussane-les-Alpilles  and Mouriès (8km) are famed for their extra virgin olive oil, some of the finest produced in France. Visit local farms to sample other delights of the region (cheese, honey, charcuterie and more).

Market enthusiasts will adore Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (12km) on a Wednesday morning or visit hilltop Eygalières (19km) on a Friday morning, followed by lunch in one of the village’s upmarket restaurants. Arles (17km) is another highlight of the region with its restaurant terraces, food markets, artistic heritage and incredible Roman sites, also the gateway to the mesmerising landscapes of the Camargue.
