This recently renovated farmhouse sits amidst the rolling fields and attractive villages of Provence and is the perfect place to stay for a break with a group of friends or extended family. With large open-plan living areas and expansive grounds there will be plenty of room for everyone in your party.
Outside, Maison Bouton De Rose is a beautiful farmhouse with pastel paint work and blue shutters, surrounded by lush floral beds. This charm continues inside as there are feature fireplaces and original beams in the living spaces, as well as an upright piano for those with musical flair. The home also offers modern comforts to guests as it has been fully refurbished internally to provide light and spacious rooms with neutral décor, a contemporary kitchen and chic bathrooms.
The heart of the home is the open-plan living and dining room which open out on to the terrace and are flooded with natural light. Whether you are sitting around the fire on a winter break or dining together at the long table, this is a great social area. There is also a smaller sitting room with a TV which is a snug space for watching a film together or for the kids to hang out in. When you are making your morning coffee or preparing lunch for everyone, you will find all the appliances you could need in the fantastic kitchen.
There are four lovely bedrooms to choose from; one of these is located on the ground floor and is a large suite with a double bed, plus a sofa, a desk and an en-suite bathroom featuring an inviting bath and a shower. Upstairs there are three more bedrooms, including a double room, a room with two single beds and a bunk room with two bunk beds that is suitable for sleeping up to 4 children.
The outside grounds of the home are just as gorgeous as the interior. With 1.2 acres of fields, olive and fruit trees, lavender and flower beds, you can find nooks for reading, dining areas and lots of room for running around. The garden also boasts a private swimming pool and unrivalled views over the surrounding countryside and the dramatic Luberon mountains.
When you want to pick up some groceries or dine out, there are two villages close to the house. Murs is a small village just a 2km drive away which has a shop and a few restaurants within elegant hotels. Joucas is a bigger village which is 4km away from the villa and has a much wider range of cafes and restaurants ranging from family-run bistros to a Michelin-starred restaurant. Joucas also has a bar, shop and walking routes leading off from the atmospheric cobbled streets.
You do not have to travel far to see some of Provence’s most amazing villages such as Rousillon and Gordes which are each just 10km away, while walking trails through ancient woodlands, cycling routes and rolling countryside also envelop the villa.

Location
About the surrounding area of Maison Bouton De RoseThis family villa is set within picture-postcard countryside, overlooking the peaks of the Luberon mountains and out towards the stunning village of Rousillon. With lots of Provence’s star attractions close by, this is the ideal location for busy days exploring before retreating back to the peace of the house.
Maison Bouton De Rose is located in parkland and fields in between the small village of Murs and the village of Joucas. Murs is a tiny place with a few places to eat and a shop but is worth visiting for a stroll around to see why it was an inspiration to many artists.
Joucas is bigger, with a greater range of amenities including a bar and a fine dining restaurant with paths leading out on to pretty walking trails nearby. The village also has some historic sites such as old oil mills and windmills and the 18th century Saint-Jean-Baptiste church which is packed with Italian art works.
Outside of the local villages you will also discover wide open spaces where you can get back to nature and enjoy the lovely climate. Whether you enjoy walking, cycling, mountain climbing, horse riding or even paragliding, all of these activities are available close to the villa.
The land is also dotted with farms and vineyards which are known for their world-class produce. If you would like to learn more about wine production you could visit Vignoble Chasson which is a winery 10km away, here you can join a tour of the vineyard and cellars and taste the samples or even book on to a bespoke food pairing event.
There are lots of incredible hilltop villages that you can visit in this part of Provence, so many in fact that you won’t have time to see them all! One of the finest is called Rousillon and is just 10km away. Rousillon is a unique place and amazing place to see as all of the buildings and the land they are built on are vibrant red and orange tones. These colours come from the local ochre quarries and create awe-inspiring vistas alongside the blue of the sky and the greens of the woodlands. The village itself is a charming maze of pristine streets, filled with cafes, shops and restaurants. In the summer months there are always festivals, saints’ days and village fairs taking place which are lots of fun to join in with.
Another place you should make time to visit is the village of Gordes, which is also 10km away and is classed as one of the most beautiful villages in Provence. It is an ancient village with tall white stone homes and shops which spiral down the hillside. Once settled by small pre-historic tribes, Gordes has seen lots of change through its long history and most of the buildings we see today are from its wealthy medieval era. During World War Two the village was badly bombed and extensive restoration was carried out. In the heart of the village, you can visit a museum dedicated to painter Pol Mara, the town hall and the old castle.
Just outside of the village there are also a few wonderful attractions; including the archaeological site of the Bories village which is a group of around 30 historic dry-stone huts which were once homes, bake houses and tanneries, used from the 7th century onwards.
The other attraction is Senanque Abbey which hails from the 12th century and still houses a religious community who sell honey and lavender products from their picturesque fields to sustain the Abbey.

Region
With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.
Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.
Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.
To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.
Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.
The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.

Location is extraordinary
First of all the location of this house is extraordinary: You are quickly in the most known and beautiful villages, you have Apt quite close as a "bigger" city and you are in the middle of nature, but not totally lonely. The view from the house is superb. You feel so comfortable. There are a lot of places all over, where you can enjoy the day - having breakfast on the large terrace under the walnut tree, reading sessions along the pool, getting back on the terrace for lunch and having your "aperitive" on an old bank watching Saignon on the other side of the valley and greeting the "Mourre Negre". It is very calm. You only hear the birds singing and the water of the pool murmuring. The house is designed and decorated of a mix of modern and antique furniture, which makes is cosy. All you need to prepare your dishes etc is there. If you have any questions, there is someone available by phone and if really necessary as well on site.

Glorious
With another family we spent two glorious weeks in this marvellous house overlooking orchards and the valley. It is very conveniently located midway between Murs and Joucas and provides a wonderful base for trips to Gordes, Roussillon, Goult, Menerbes, Lacoste, Bonnieux, etc. The village of Joucas is itself very picturesque, has beautiful hill-top views and is well-positioned near a number of excellent walking tracks. After visiting busy villages in the Luberon on market days, it was always a delight to return to our house, a peaceful haven away from the tourists. Joucas has an epicerie "La Joucasienne" next to the bar "La Terrasse" and stocks a very good range of local food and wine. There is also a hotel "Hostellerie des Commandeurs" in the village which also has a bar. The hotel and bar make good coffee. Maison Bouton De Rose is a beautiful property with well-maintained gardens, expansive lawns and a very large swimming pool. The house is very well presented and is much grander inside than the photographs indicate. The kitchen and dining room are very well stocked with crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils. A grand piano sits in the corner of the dining/family room. The house was usually cool enough (we were there in the middle of Summer) but does not have ceiling fans.. When not eating inside at the large dining table, we ate under the almond tree on the terrace above the pool. The property was very clean and has three good bathrooms We would highly recommend this property and would have no hesitation returning. It was able to accommodate 10 of us easily.

Met all our expectations and more
Maison Bouton De Rose has met all our expectations and more. We were three families from Switzerland , USA and Canada and were looking for a house to spend one week together . The rooms are generous in size, very well equipped kitchen even for eleven people! The living room is magnificent with its large fireplace, library and grand piano. Every night after dinner at the large table outside we had the pleasure of playing the piano, a luxury on holiday! We hope to have another opportunity to return.
