Overview

Pool Villa/House Modern Ideal for Kids All Bedrooms En-Suite Parking Space Romantic

Imagine gazing over the Provençal landscapes towards one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Les Baux-de-Provence. The perched setting of Maison Césaire is stunning, surrounded by towering pines, olive trees and cypresses with the most incredible Les Alpilles views.

This is Provence living at its very best both inside and out. The owners have renovated Maison Césaire with such grace, restoring so many original features such as exposed stone and the lounge’s grand wooden doors. This contrasts so perfectly with the air-conditioned villa’s open-plan design and minimalist style with light flooding in from the elegantly arched windows.

Sleeping 10-14 guests, the five bedrooms have been beautifully created, all with queen or king-size doubles, two with open mezzanines for extra sleeping space. Gorgeous modern bathrooms are open plan to the bedrooms, most with walk-in Italian showers whilst the ground floor annexed double features a romantic free-standing bath.

Marvel at the breathtaking scenery around you from the south-facing terraces, play pétanque beneath the pines, enjoy lunch by the ash and hackberry trees and cool off in the salt-water swimming pool. With the sights and scents of Provence all around you, this is a truly spectacular setting.

You can reach historic Les Baux-de-Provence and its château in around 3.5km, passing endless olive groves as you drive through the undulating landscapes of this region. No wonder it’s a paradise for walkers and cyclists with trails through woodland, orchards, vines and hills – it’s also great for hikers, rock-climbers and mountain bike enthusiasts.

Stop off for lunch in nearby Maussane-les-Alpilles, famed for its AOP olive oil, or book a table at the legendary Bistro du Paradou. Soak up the ambience in the artistic town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence with its Wednesday morning market, then follow more of Van Gogh’s footsteps in Arles, the gateway to the Camargue.

Spend the day exploring the idyllic villages of the Luberon such as Ménerbes and Gordes, visit the historic city of Avignon, admire Cézanne’s artwork in Aix-en-Provence and purchase wine Châteauneuf-du-Pape before returning to the peaceful Provençal surroundings of your magnificent holiday home.

A little further is Le Bistrot du Paradou (4km), an iconic Provençal restaurant favoured by the likes of Rick Stein. Eygalières (19km) is another picture-perfect village discreetly loved by celebrities.

Visit Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (9km), well known for its associations with Van Gogh, on a Wednesday morning to soak up its ambience at the delightful market. Learn more about the great artist in the historic town of Arles (21km), the gateway to the Camargue.

Avignon (29km) is another fantastic day out whether enjoying its markets and restaurants or admiring its UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Pope’s Palace and Pont d'Avignon. For a change of scene, hop on a boat across to the other side of the river and discover the peaceful river island, île de la Barthelasse, best explored by bike.

Kids

Best Suited For: Teens
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Les Alpilles offers a wealth of opportunities for families with children from long walks through the woodland, olive groves and even along canals to horse-riding, pony-trekking, cycling, rock-climbing and more.

A visit to nearby Les Baux-de-Provence will enchant all ages with its historic château and medieval lanes – pick up a ‘treasure map’ from the tourist office to help you explore. Just outside the village, Carrières de Lumières is a popular family attraction where works of art are projected on to quarry walls accompanied by light and music.

The most adventurous guests can hire canoes and kayaks to sail along the Sorgue River from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, around a 45-minute drive away, whilst art-lovers can follow Van Gogh trails in both Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Arles.

A visit to Avignon and its UNESCO World Heritage sites may also appeal – tired legs will appreciate the little road train that tours you around the small city.

Other attractions include Zoo Barben for animal lovers as well as the two theme parks Le Village Des Automates and Parc Grimmland, all reached in under an hour by car.
