Welcome to charme en Provence, where privacy and tranquillity are combined with incredible convenience. At this beautiful 5600m2 private estate near the banks of the river l'Ouvèze, you’re just a few minutes’ walk away from the centre of enchanting Vaison-la-Romaine, following quiet country lanes.
This family home comprises a main house and an annexe just a few steps from one another, and set back 50 meters from the small road separating the estate and the river. It was built in the early 1950s out of the local stone (pierre de Vaison) in classic style, in a historic listed area of town.
The main house is a traditional Provençal stone mas, with thick walls to keep it cool in the summer. Completely renovated, the interiors retain a charming and homely ambience with a living-dining space open-plan to a country-style kitchen on the main floor. Comfortably sleeping up to 8 guests, there is a master en suite bedroom (with air-conditioning and a gorgeous view) upstairs as well as three further bedrooms (with ceiling fans) and two bathrooms on the main floor. There is also a library with billiards and a gorgeous terrace with views.
The smaller adjacent annexe (included in the 12-person rate) accommodates four additional guests with its spacious loft-style open-plan kitchen-dining-living area, two bedrooms, a large bathroom, and a separate WC. It opens onto a small terrace with views of the Mont Ventoux in the distance and the hills just across the river.
Admire oak, olive, fig, mulberry and kaki trees across the enclosed garden. The poolside terrace is beautifully paved out of natural stone with sun loungers, surrounded by fragrant lavender bushes and pink oleanders, overlooked by an atmospheric outdoor dining and activity area. Here, you can play pétanque or ping pong, dine al fresco, or just relax in the hammock or on one of the loungers. From these garden areas guests can take in unobstructed views of the hilltop medieval castle that sits high atop the opposite bank of the river l'Ouvèze.
Just a few hundred metres down the river lies the historic Roman bridge, and at a similar distance discover the ancient hilltop medieval quarter, along with two major Roman antiquities sites right in the centre of town. Also in the centre of Vaison-la-Romaine you’ll find the pedestrian shopping streets and the main square, with a great selection of shops, cafes and restaurants, where you can relax and take in the atmosphere of Provence.

We had a very enjoyable stay.
The location was perfect for what we wanted to do.
The house was lovely and spacious. It had a French rustic feel. -
We absolutely loved it!
-
We certainly did really enjoy our stay
The accommodation was great, having a heated pool was brilliant especially with a little one, the table tennis and pétanque were enjoyed as much as I’d hoped and big family meals were a joy especially on the verandah which we were able to do most of the time. The indoor dining table worked well when the weather made that preferable too. Also appreciated the choice of sunny and shaded places to sit. To be honest it was all just great and we also loved being able to walk into town so easily - Mas Mayeaux is a wonderful place! Honestly you have clearly paid a lot of attention to detail throughout the house and we would be more than happy to visit again and to recommend it.
-
Beautiful!
Mas Mayeaux has exceeded our expectations, it is a beautiful property. Couldn't be happier.
-
Love the villa
It has been great. We love the villa and am sure we would like to stay again.
-
Exceeded all our expectations
We had the pleasure of staying at Mas Mayeaux in July 2023 with our group of 6 people. The house is beautifully renovated with a great eye for detail and maintaining very well the French authentic style. The garden is an absolute paradise, filled with flowers and very well maintained, with a view on the rocks and the castle of Vaison-la-Romaine, and no neighbouring houses in sight. We had everything we needed for our stay and the hosts ensured that all essentials were provided upon our arrival, from shower and pool towels and bed linen, to shampoo, shower gel, toilet paper and a fully equipped kitchen.
In terms of entertainment, there is of course the lovely pool, a big terrace, ping pong table and plenty of space for some jeu de boules or other sports (for which even yoga mats were available). If the weather gets too hot and you want to relax inside for a bit, there is plenty of space to do so and there is even a pool table in the house. The village with wonderful French bakeries and several great restaurants and shops is only a five minute walk away. We usually ended our days with lovely barbecues on the terrace. In short, our stay exceeded all of our expectations, we will definitely come back here! -
Beautiful place
We had an amazing week in this beautiful house. There were enough rooms with private bathrooms, so we all had our privacy. The house is fully equipped with a bbq for outside dining, a nice swimming pool and a lovely big garden. You don't need a car to visit the cosy village Vaison La Romaine, it takes only 5-10 minutes to walk. There are all kinds of little shops, restaurants and a market. It is a child-friendly house with a lot of fun things to do. The house has a lot of board games, a pool table and outside a nice Ping Pong table. There are also some yoga mats to do a work-out together. I would certainly come back to this beautiful place and definitely highly recommend it.

The villa is superb.
All has been great, your prompt communication has been especially appreciated. The villa is superb. We would love to return.

The most special week
We loved our stay at Mas Mayeaux and had the most special week in the Provence sunshine. The house is beautiful. It has all the features and functions a family could need, and it is also beautifully designed with lots of thoughtful and interesting touches. We especially loved all the outdoor games, including table tennis, pétanque and lots of toys for the children in the swimming pool. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children and found the house really spacious. The bedrooms are large and either have air conditioning or fans so we felt cool at night (despite the daytime temperature reaching 30degrees). The house is ideally located (I can’t stress this enough) as it is a 5 minute walk to Vaison, but also feels very secluded and private. Vaison itself had so many good restaurants and we found lots that were also very child friendly. We also loved going to the local shops (and the market on a Tuesday) and cooking on the BBQ at the house. The terrace is incredible and we spent many happy evenings there enjoying good food and a beautiful view. It was a fantastic week and we can’t wait to return. Many thanks to the hosts.
-
Beautiful property
This beautiful property is very stylishly decorated and is the perfect getaway to discover the region, as it is located within short walking distance to the centre of Vaison la Romaine, where you can find typical restaurants, with great local food and a great atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed biking through the region, the wine tastings at the different wineries. And after all the “effort”, there is time to relax at the private swimming pool, with view on the ancient city. A stay with our children, to celebrate our 30 years’ wedding anniversary, which we will never forget!
-
A wonderful villa
A wonderful villa in the typical 'Provence-style' that has everything you could want. It offers spacious and luminous terraces, living areas and bedrooms. Above all that, the swimming pool provides the perfect refreshment during the day and lets you gaze at the incredible stars during the night.
-
Perfect for relaxation
Very pleasant, well maintained and luminous house with a lot of space and a nice view on the castle of Vaison la Romaine! Perfect for some relaxation by the pool, to play ping-pong, billiards or petanque, but also a great base to visit the Mont Ventoux, les Dentelles de Montmirail, and nearby charming cities such as Orange and Avignon
-
Brilliant family friendly place
We stayed for 12 days and the hosts were very accommodating and the house had literally everything you could possibly need ever for a family! It really is a home away from home. I thought it was a brilliant and family friendly place to stay. My daughter even learnt to swim in the pool. There was everything you may need in walking distance and a little river to paddle and swim in which was great with under 5’s. The gas BBQ was a hit and we had to buy one when we got home because it made our lives so easy!
-
Luxurious villa
We had a nice stay in this luxurious villa, located in the typical French village of Vaison la Romaine. The village centre and medieval city centre are both within easy walking distance. The surroundings are perfect for a hike with beautiful views. And if it gets too hot, you can cool down in the pool.
-
A cosy house
Everything about this house close to the city centre was wonderful. A cosy house, very nicely decorated and with all comforts, nice shower with garden view and well equipped kitchen. On top of that, the sun-soaked garden is mesmerising; I enjoyed the bright colours and different smells while swimming or while sipping an apero on the terrace.
-
Luxury and comfort
A well maintained and well-equipped house offering plenty of luxury and comfort while still maintaining the picturesque feeling of the Provence. The swimming pool is placed perfectly to catch the early hours of sun allowing for a swim and a tan at any moment of the day. The positioning of the house on the hillside made for a relaxed and secluded vacation feeling while still offering all the required commodities nearby (shops, petrol stations, etc) as well as the pleasant town of Vaison La Romaine right around the corner.
The region was perfect for both adventure seekers with canyoning, hiking, mountain biking and more within a short drive away, as well as for cultural visits to nearby Roman remains, walks among the vineyards and lavender fields, or one of the many wine tasting experiences. -
We hope some day to return.
We just spent a glorious month in your home in Vaison-la-Romaine. We want to thank you for making it available to us through Olivers Travels. It's a wonderful home in a wonderful setting. We had not previously been to Provence so we were able to take advantage of Vaison's central location to explore much of the area.
-
Wonderful property and location!
We had a wonderful time in your house. Thank you for everything! It was just perfect in every way - the way it was equipped, the layout, the pool and of course the location. I fell in love with the town and enjoyed wandering through the medieval street at different times of the day to see its beauty in different lights.
-
Very Nice Property!
Excellent location and good accommodation!
-
Spectacular
Thank you for letting us stay in this beautiful and comfy home with an amazing pool and great view of the town and spectacular castle. We also enjoyed the ping pong and pool tables a lot. This house was above and beyond our expectations.
-
Love at First...
I fell in love with France’s beauty the moment I got here.
-
A complete trip
I love the plants and the fruits. Have you tried figs on cheese? It was heaven and the pool felt so good.
-
Simply perfect
The simple, elegant décor, the spaciousness, the convenient kitchen, and the delicious coolness of the pool after hot sightseeing, were all wonderful things about the place.
-
The summit of enjoyment
It is incredibly beautiful here. I love the house and the town too. I loved the market and the music festival. I also loved all the daytrips you can take to places like the Pont du Gard, Avignon and Seguret.
-
