Overview
Located in an authentic Provençal village on the edge of Les Alpilles, close to the artistic town of Arles, Moulin Pissarro was once an olive oil mill dating back to the 18th century. It has recently been wonderfully restored into a beautiful residence with a large swimming pool within its walled garden, just a stroll away from delightful restaurants and shops.
You can still appreciate the heritage of the limestone mill on the ground floor of the moulin which has been transformed into a vast hall with vaulted ceilings for playing table tennis, volleyball and pétanque, or for dining with family and friends in charming surroundings, including the original press. Upstairs, you can relax in the lounge or on the mezzanine with views over the Alpilles, cook in the spacious kitchen and play snooker in the elegant oval games room, alongside three comfortable bedrooms.
The second part of this abode is just as attractive with a spacious lounge and fireplace, large dining table and second fully-equipped kitchen. There are three further bedrooms here - one ground floor twin with its own bathroom and two master en suite bedrooms upstairs.
Indeed, sleeping up to 10 adults and 4 children, the layout of Moulin Pissarro allows guests the opportunity to seek privacy when needed with welcoming lounges and different kitchens, yet you can also come together to feast on delicious Provençal produce or simply enjoy a glass of wine in the dappled shade of the walled garden with its magnolia, cypress and olive trees. The swimming pool is simply gorgeous, heated in the summer months and just perfect for cooling off after a long day out exploring.
Wander down the lane and within minutes you will be in the heart of the bustling village with its ancient houses made from centuries-old quarry stone, characterful cinema, café terraces and restaurants. Just south of the village, climb the hill to admire the glorious views from the Moulin de Daudet and be inspired by the landscapes so loved by the famous French author, Alphonse Daudet. Keen walkers can discover beautiful trails from the village to the Roman aqueduct or Abbey of Montmajour, and it is also possible to arrange bike hire.
Passing olive groves so typical of the valley, visit picture-perfect villages including Les Baux-de-Provence and Maussane-les-Alpilles, both under 10km away, and historic towns and cities from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Tarascon to Avignon and Nîmes.
Best of all, you are only 10km from Van Gogh’s beloved Arles, a must for art enthusiasts, history lovers and Francophiles wishing to soak up the town’s heritage and charm as you come across art galleries, photography exhibitions, vibrant markets and gastronomic restaurants as well as Arles’ incredible Roman amphitheatre.
What you should know…
- Moulin Pissarro sleeps 14 guests - 10 adults and up to 4 children.

- There is also a one-bedroom duplex apartment above the garage, available on request only (a single bedroom, best suited to an older teen or staff). The apartment otherwise remains unoccupied.
- Air-conditioning is featured in the first-floor bedrooms only. That said, thanks to the traditionally thick walls, the ground floor generally stays cool even in the summer months.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesMoulin Pissarro welcomes families with children who can enjoy the table tennis, pétanque set, volleyball net and other games both inside and out at this characterful former olive press in a typically Provençal village near Arles. The room where the olive press used to be has been opened up to create a large space to play games or dine when it’s too warm on the terrace – you can even admire some of the old machinery in there.
It's great to be able to stroll to the shops and restaurants in the village and there is even a traditional cinema. Bike hire is possible close by or the owners can help you arrange it. There are also some glorious walks in and around the village - the most energetic can climb up the hill to the Moulin De Daudet where you can enjoy amazing views of the surrounding landscapes.
The Vélorail des Alpilles is a fun activity just a short walk away. Hop aboard your pedal-powered vehicle and ‘cycle’ along the former railway tracks following a 8km long route passing idyllic scenery so typical of Provence. As always, check opening days and times in advance online.
Nearby Arles is famous for its incredible Roman sites as well as its Van Gogh associations and art galleries. Families will also appreciate being so close to the Camargue, a paradise for outdoor adventurists – look out for horse-riding, safari tours, bird-watching, quad biking and more. Not to mention the Mediterranean beach at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer which is less than an hour away by car.
Avignon and Nîmes are two other fine days out for history-loving families – both cities have a seasonal tourist train that tours the sites which may appeal to tired legs. Away from the hustle and bustle, feed the animals at L'Arche de Méo near Mollégès, visit the large Zoo Barben near Salon-de-Provence and discover canoeing, kayaking, tree-top adventures and more near Lagnes and Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.

Superb
A superb house steeped in history with an elegant garden in the center of the historic village! Common rooms with beautiful volumes and magnificent vaults. The kitchen adjoining a first living room with fireplace is a real living room. The comfort and sober luxury of the rooms make this place a real friendly space to live in with family or friends!

Magical place
A magical place! To party with friends and family, to relax in complete privacy, to enjoy the sun, the garden or a nice fireplace (we went there in summer and December). A real interlude of pleasures.

An ideal place to share with family and/or friends
What a beautiful home in the country of Alphonse Daudet, a stone's throw from Les Baux de Provence. A week spent, with friends, in this old oil mill so well restored, was enchanting. Congratulations to the owners for their decoration choices. An ideal place to share with family and/or friends (there is plenty of room) for a beneficial change of scenery. In summer by the Olympic-sized swimming pool or in winter by the fireplace as we have already done.

A unique house
A really pleasant house to live in as a group (almost 3 houses in one, two real kitchens!) without stepping on each other. A mixture of old stones and contemporary decoration created with great taste and quality materials. The swimming pool is magnificent and the billiards room incredible for spending excellent evenings! Very well located, a few minutes walk from shops and restaurants but very quiet, and central for visiting the region: the Alpilles, Les Baux de Provence, Montmajour Abbey, Estoublon Castle and even the Camargue! A unique house where we will return with pleasure!
