Overview
In secluded Vaucluse, surrounded by vineyards with vistas of Mont Ventoux, Notre Rêve is a designer masterpiece nestled in the idyllic nature of Provence.
When cycling across the beautiful landscapes, a family who have visited this region for years fell in love with an old hamlet that they discovered in the hills. It is said that the original tower was an artist’s atelier and that the estate used to attract artists inspired by the scenery.
After a sensitive renovation, Notre Rêve was created by a talented team of Belgian architects and designers. Retaining the ambience of a small hamlet, there are three separate residences which sleep up to 13 guests across seven suites. Historic details have been restored whilst each abode exudes unique style with vintage and hand-crafted furnishings, warm décor, natural fabrics and an exceptional eye for detail. The artistic tradition continues across the domaine with carefully curated art adorning the walls.
Experience Notre Rêve’s understated sense of luxury outside with pretty pathways connecting terraces alongside the Provençal aroma of herbs as you approach the salt-water swimming pool overlooking vineyards and authentic nature. Find a hidden spot for a glass of rosé alongside convivial terraces for al-fresco dining ensemble.
Then there’s the aesthetically pleasing wellness and fitness centre where massages, facials and treatments can be arranged. Indeed, the domaine’s hosts are nearby to allow guests to experience a range of services. A breakfast of fresh bread, pastries, French cheese and charcuterie is served each morning whilst lunches, poolside snacks or evening dinners can be prepared on request – the Italian chef is eager to share his culinary passion and showcase the best regional ingredients. The hosts can also help arrange guided wine tasting, winter truffle hunting and many more activities and excursions.
The Vaucluse region of Provence will enchant you with its natural beauty and authenticity. Here you are surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and pine forests whilst winter truffle hunting is popular in the foothills of Mont Ventoux. Valréas is known for its historic wine production whilst Nyons is loved for its AOP extra virgin olive oil. Look out for wonderful Provençal markets in nearby villages and towns.
Visit some of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ such as La Garde Adhémar, Le Poët-Laval and Séguret and soak up the extraordinary beauty of the lavender fields of Drôme-Provençal. A little further afield, spend the day exploring the Roman ruins of Orange and venture to the small city of Avignon with its riverside setting and UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Location
About the surrounding area of Notre ReveThis unique and beautiful residence is in a remote setting surrounded by vineyards and woodland with views towards Mont Ventoux. Close to the Vaucluse and Drôme border, this part of Provence is renowned for its idyllic landscapes of olive groves, vines, pine forests and the lavender fields of Drôme-Provençal.
It is just over an hour's drive north of Avignon’s airport and TGV train station (fast trains from Paris take less than 3 hours).
Valréas (7km) is a charming small town with narrow lanes, old doorways, medieval houses, pretty shops, restaurants and the grand townhall, Château de Simiane. Look out for festivities across the year including Corso Lavande, a festival celebrating lavender in the first week of August. The Wednesday morning market is a delight with its wealth of regional produce and there is a smaller Farmer’s market on a Saturday morning.
Valréas has a rich wine heritage and guided wine tastings can be arranged. In the summer you can wander around the beautiful lavender fields and visit distilleries whilst the winter offers opportunities to hunt truffles in the foothills of Mont Ventoux.
The region is also ideal for hiking and cycling – the impressive natural scenery of Vaucluse and Drôme-Provençal is incredible. The most experienced of cyclists can challenge themselves on Mont Ventoux starting at Malaucène (33km) or Bédoin (44km).
Visit picture-perfect villages such as La Garde Adhémar (31km), Le Poët-Laval (37km) and Séguret (24km), all three classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France. Dine out in wonderful restaurants from authentic bistros to Michelin starred establishments. Drive to the pretty village of Nyons (20km) to sample its extra virgin olive oil, some of the finest in France.
Slightly further afield, visit the historic town of Orange (37km) with its Roman ruins and don’t miss a magnificent day out in Avignon (65km), soaking up the city’s ambience as you visit it’s markets, restaurants, wine-bars and two UNESCO World Heritage sites, Le Palais des Papes and Le Pont d’Avignon.

Kids
Best Suited For: TeensExperience the idyllic Vaucluse landscapes with your family as you stay in this remote and very beautiful setting.
The region is a paradise for adventurous guests who love walking, hiking and cycling through the hilly landscapes of vineyards, olive groves, lavender fields and woodland. If staying in lavender season, visit one of the distilleries or farms to learn all about its production. Teens (usually aged 14+) may even be able to partake in workshops and look out for activities for younger kids in the school holidays.
Les Barons Perchés (25km), near Nyons, is a tree-top adventure centre with trails for a range of ages (age and height restrictions apply). For gentler time outdoors, youngsters will enjoy letting off a little steam at the pretty Jardin de Pied Vaurias with its historic mill and small play area.
Young historians meanwhile will love the rich heritage of the area – spend days out visiting the Roman sites of Vaison-la-Romaine (23km) and Orange (37km) or admire the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon (65km). If visiting Avignon, look out for the tourist road train that tours the city and consider hiring bikes to cycle across the river to L'île de la Barthelasse, one of France’s largest river island.
Driving around half an hour west, discover La Ferme aux Crocodiles with over 400 crocodiles alongside tortoises and birds. Perhaps combine it with a trip to the charming little farm, Aux Bonheurs Des Animaux, with its animals and play area for youngsters.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
Having re-visited the area for over twenty years, we immediately fell in love after seeing this estate for the first time and envisioned its potential as a restful and rejuvenating space for family and friends. The undisturbed views over vineyards, trees and mountains offer such a sense of serenity.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
Local rumour has is that Notre Rêve used to be a place for art and artists, and this is a theme which continues into the present day. The property houses a curated selection of artworks, representing both young and established artists, notably Belgian.
The property underwent a gentle conversion from traditional hamlet to contemporary group of guest houses, executed by fellow Belgian architect Sam Peeters and his Antwerp-based interior design studio, Contekst. They have succeeded in transforming the historic interiors with sensitivity, repurposing the home while accentuating its original features and charm.
Belgian interior stylist and designer Bea Mombaers knows where and how to source locally in the region, having her own holiday home and several creative projects here. She has overseen the selection of every item and fabric in the property to create a complete aesthetic experience.
For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really...
