Vintage French style meets Provençal charm at this impressive 5-bedroom villa with a private swimming pool just a short walk from the heart of historic Saint-Rémy.

Maison Jean sleeps up to 10 guests across its main house and two apartments, suiting a family travelling with grandparents, perhaps, or a group of friends looking for a chic getaway close to the bistros, art galleries and shops of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.

Designed with a sense of French flair, we love the spacious lounge, dining area and kitchen in the main house where characterful wood beams and arched ceilings complement contemporary décor and furnishings. There are three double bedrooms and two shower rooms (one ensuite), air-conditioning throughout as well as direct access to the courtyard garden and swimming pool.

Alongside the main villa, there are also two air-conditioned one-bedroom apartments, each one with a lounge and small kitchen, a double bedroom, a shower room and a private terrace. When seeking more sociable times, gather by the courtyard swimming pool with its sun loungers and Provençal plants, and make the most of the al-fresco dining terrace for summer lunches and feasts on warm evenings.

You may prefer to dine out in Saint-Rémy, a bustling town renowned for its restaurants, art galleries and rich heritage – you can be in the historic centre within a 15 to 20-minute walk, passing tree-lined boulevards and restaurant terraces as you approach the old quarter. Follow the Van Gogh trail, visit the modern art museum and potter around little galleries. Make sure you head out early on a Wednesday morning to experience the wonderful Provençal market showcasing the best regional produce.

Elsewhere, explore the gorgeous landscapes of Les Alpilles with olive groves, forests, limestone peaks and idyllic villages such as Maussane-les-Alpilles, Les Baux-de-Provence and Eygalières. Admire the art and history of Arles and you could even venture into the Camargue, or head north and be inspired by the beautiful city of Avignon.

Sample wines in the vineyards of the Luberon or Rhône valley, canoe along the Sorgue River near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, seek antique treasures at the superb Sunday morning market in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and, if you can find the time, appreciate the beauty of Mont Ventoux, all exquisite jewels of this captivating part of Provence.

Maison Jean is in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a bustling Provençal town around 21km south of Avignon in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of southern France.

Just north-east of the historic centre, you can stroll into the heart of St-Rémy in 15 to 20 minutes. Wander along tree-lined streets with pavement cafes and restaurants, come across pretty squares and fountains before exploring the narrow cobbled lanes and stone archways. Pop into art galleries, museums and little shops, then follow the Van Gogh trail. The Wednesday morning market is especially wonderful and an experience not to be missed!

The landscapes of Les Alpilles are a short drive away with hilltop gems such as Les Baux-de-Provence (12km) and Eygalières (12km) both within easy reach. Enjoy lunch on the main square in Maussane-les-Alpilles (11km), a village famed for its gastronomy, and try the delicious extra virgin olive oil from the beautiful Baux valley.

Follow Alphonse Daudet’s footsteps as you walk along the windmill trail near Fontvieille (18km) or learn more about Van Gogh’s heritage in Arles (26km), the gateway to the Camargue. You are also well located for spending the day in historic Nîmes (45km) and visiting the magnificent Pont du Gard (38km), a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Of course, then there’s the two UNESCO World Heritage sites of nearby Avignon (22km), a joyful day out by the Rhône River. Sample wines in the vineyards of the Rhône valley or venture to the idyllic landscapes of the Luberon for its wine-tasting opportunities and iconic perched villages such as Gordes (39km), Ménerbes (37km) and Roussillon (51km).

Families will enjoy this welcoming house with its gorgeous swimming pool, table tennis and table football. It is great being able to walk into the heart of historic St-Rémy. In the town visit the little art galleries, follow Van Gogh’s art trail and let off steam at the playground near the tourist office on Place Joseph-Mauron. 

A short drive away, animal lovers will appreciate a trip to the charming little farm, L'Arche de Méo, where you can feed the animals. Alternatively, the larger Zoo Barben is around an hour away by car.

Across Les Alplilles you can discover a range of outdoor activities from gentle walks and pony riding to hiking, biking, cycling and rock-climbing. Follow the windmill walking trail near the authentic village of Fontvieille or have a go on the Vélorail des Alpilles where you pedal vehicles along a former railway line passing idyllic Provençal scenery.

Further afield, there are canoeing/kayaking opportunities by Le Pont du Gard and also near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Meanwhile, visit the caves at Grottes de Thouzon or spend the day at one of Provence’s theme parks such as Parc Spirou Provence, Le Village des Automates and Parc Grimmland, all within an hours drive.

Security deposit €3000 charged to client's credit card as a pre-authorisation at least 2 weeks prior to arrival and refunded two weeks after departure, subject to full inspection.

Pool opening dates? Please note that pool opening dates are subject to local weather conditions and pool maintenance requirements and that cooler months may not be suitable for swimming.

End of stay cleaning included? Yes. However, guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit.

Insurance Guests are required to be in possession of a valid insurance policy, which covers them for civil liability as well as cancellations, personal belongings, public liability and any accidental damage caused during their stay.
