Overview

Pool Villa/House Ideal for Kids Parking Space

Mas De La Prairie is a welcoming and traditional villa in Provence with a great sized swimming pool. The house and its gardens enjoy a beautiful rural setting yet the bustling heart of artistic Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is only 3.5km away.

This characterful Provençal abode welcomes eight guests across its four bedrooms. Downstairs you will find a comfortable lounge with a large sofa facing the fireplace and TV alongside a wood-beamed dining area and rustic kitchen boasting plenty of modern appliances including an American fridge and Nespresso machine.

There is one ground floor double bedroom with its own private shower room whilst upstairs you will find two further doubles, one en suite, and a twin bedroom plus a family shower room. All four bedrooms benefit from air-conditioning.

It’s the authentic Provençal grounds that will truly enchant you. Approach via the gateway passing cypresses and olive trees, then admire the sense of space as you gaze towards the 10m long swimming pool and pine trees with distant views of Les Alpilles hills. There is a south-facing terrace for long lunches by the barbecue-plancha and a picturesque outdoor lounge for reading in the shade or evening apéritifs. How lovely to be able to sit beneath the plane tree with a glass of local wine in hand and the distant sound of the cicadas.

Make the most of the rural setting knowing you are not too isolated either. Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is just a short drive away with its bistros, café terraces, art galleries and superb Wednesday morning market which showcases some of the finest produce of the region. Sample wines in nearby vineyards, hire bikes to cycle through landscapes of orchards, olive groves and farmland, enjoy lunch out in charming local villages and head off for long walks or hikes to appreciate the scenery of Les Alpilles.

Elsewhere across this part of southern France, discover the historic sites of Avignon, Nîmes and Arles, canoe or sail along the Sorgue River near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, soak up the ambience of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue’s Sunday morning brocante and explore the gorgeous perched villages of the Luberon for yet more magical experiences of Provence.

In the Bouches-du-Rhône department of Provence, Mas De La Prairie is located in a rural setting yet not isolated with Saint-Rémy-de-Provence just a short drive away.

Historic Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (3.5km) is a bustling town loved for its charming ambience, many restaurants (from French bistros to high-end establishments), café terraces, art galleries, Van Gogh trail and the town’s famous Wednesday morning market. It’s a joy to wander around the narrow lanes of the old quarter and it’s good to know that you can get everything you need from the many shops and large supermarkets.

Hire bikes or hop in your car to explore some of the authentic nearby villages such as Mollégès (8km), Saint-Andiol (9km) and Eyragues (6km), passing typically rural landscapes of olive groves, orchards and farmland. Picture-perfect Eygalières (13km) is also within easy reach, an idyllic hilltop village where a small handful of A-list celebrities have bought houses.

Driving south towards the heart of Les Alpilles, hilltop Les Baux-de-Provence (14km), one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, is one of the most visited villages of the region so head there early to walk around its medieval centre and perched château. Enjoy lunch out in delightful Maussane-les-Alpilles (14km), known for its excellent extra virgin olive oil, whilst the tiny village of Paradou is a must for gastronomes who will be keen to dine out at Le Bistrot du Paradou.

Les Alpilles is a wonderful region for long walks, hiking, horse-riding, rock-climbing, cycling and mountain biking. Art lovers will adore the art galleries and Van Gogh trails of St-Rémy and Arles (28km) or watch artwork being projected on to quarry walls at Carrières des Lumières (13km). Wine enthusiasts can visit local vineyards around St-Rémy as well as venture to the Rhône valley and wineries of the Luberon.

Beyond Les Alpilles, spend the day admiring the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon (21km), the beautifully preserved Roman ruins of Nîmes (48km) or the antique shops of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (30km), not to mention its Sunday morning brocante.

Appreciate the beauty of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (36km), a paradise for outdoor adventurists, sail along the Sorgue River by canoe or kayak and discover the iconic perched villages of the Luberon with gems such as Gordes (40km), Ménerbes (35km) and Roussillon (51km) all within an hour's drive.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Set within typically Provençal grounds of cypresses, pines and olive trees, families will love the sense of space outside Mas De La Prairie alongside the characterful terraces and swimming pool.

Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is only a short drive away, home to pretty shops, art galleries and the Van Gogh trail that ends at Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole. Young historians should visit the archaeological site of Glanum, just south of the town. That said, kids may simply wish to let off steam at the town’s playground at Place Joseph Mauron near the tourist office.

Around a 10-minute drive away there is a charming farm at L'Arche de Méo where you can feed the animals, perhaps combined with a trip to the vast wooded grounds of Parc et Château de Saint-Andiol. In the other direction, Fontvieille is home to the Vélorail des Alpilles where you can ride on pedal-powered vehicles along an old railway track which passes through glorious Provençal scenery.

If you are looking to learn more about Van Gogh’s life then a day trip to Arles (28km) is also a must, a historic town also famous for its Roman heritage and the gateway to the Camargue for more outdoor adventures.
