On the edge of a small Provençal village between Saint-Rémy and Tarascon, this impressive holiday home is set in vast gardens surrounded by pine trees.

The features at this 4-bedroom abode are fantastic. Make the most of the glorious swimming pool outside on warm summer days, enjoy the trampoline, table tennis and pétanque court or simply find a pretty terrace for your morning coffee or evening apéritif. The cinema room is a welcome escape from the sun.

Set over various levels, walk up the steps to the spacious open-plan living and dining area with its contemporary kitchen and doors opening out to the upper terrace for al-fresco dining with family and friends. Interiors are modern and stylish with touches of charm.

Villa Domitia sleeps up to 8 guests across its four double bedrooms, three on the upper floor alongside two bathrooms (one en suite) and the fourth bedroom on the garden level with a king-size bed and stunning open-plan bathroom. There is a final shower room on the main floor.

It’s around a 15-minute stroll to the little village with its bakery, small grocery store, a couple of restaurants and a wholesale Farmer’s market on some afternoons each week. This attractive area is loved by walkers with its dense forests – follow a wonderful walking trail through the pine trees to an 11th century chapel nearby.

There are interesting places to visit in every direction from historic Tarascon and Beaucaire by the banks of the Rhône to the artistic towns of Arles and Saint-Rémy where Van Gogh created famous works of art.

Not to mention the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon, Nimes and Le Pont du Gard or stay slightly closer to home and explore the windmills of Fontvieille, the olive groves of Maussane-les-Alpilles and the incredible vistas from Les Baux-de-Provence.

On the edge of Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park and less than 10km from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Villa Domitia is around a 15-minute walk from the heart of a small traditional village.

The village is home to a bakery, a small grocery store, a couple of restaurants (near the edge of the village) and a seasonal wholesale fruit and vegetables market on late afternoons three times a week. Keen walkers will appreciate the beautiful surroundings with a lovely walk through the pine forest to an 11th century chapel around 1.5km away.

A large supermarket is just over 5 minutes away by car en route to Tarascon. Indeed, you are well located for visiting the historic towns of Tarascon (7.5km) and Beaucaire (9km), both by the banks of the Rhône and steeped in history. Admire Tarascon’s medieval château by the river and potter around the vibrant Tuesday morning market. Beaucaire is classified as a ‘Town of Art and History’ and loved for its pretty marina with restaurants serving moules-frites overlooking the Rhône-Sète canal. If staying in late July, look out for the vibrant festivities in Beaucaire including live music and bull runs through the streets.

There are other useful amenities in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (9.5km), a bustling Provençal town known for its Van Gogh heritage and art galleries. The Wednesday morning market is a great experience or visit on any day of the week to explore its old town with cobbled lanes and café terraces beneath the plane trees. South of the town is the archaeological site of Glanum, not far from Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole where Van Gogh stayed towards the end of his life.

Meanwhile, other highlights of the region include artistic Arles (17km) with its historic sites, galleries and photography festival, the perched village of Les Baux-de-Provence (12km) and Maussane-les-Alpilles (15km), both surrounded by the Baux valley and olive groves producing some of France’s finest extra virgin olive oil.

A little further afield, spend the day in Avignon (26km), venture to the Roman sites of Nimes (37km) or picnic by the banks of the Gard River as you admire the incredible Pont du Gard (32km), one of several UNESCO World Heritage sites in this part of southern France.
