Stay in the heart of a delightful Provençal village whilst also benefitting from your very own swimming pool and characterful flower-filled terrace.
In central Maussane-les-Alpilles, this 3-bedroom French maison dates back to the 16th century and welcomes up to 6 guests across its three air-conditioned bedrooms, each one with its own bath/shower room. Embrace the charm of the old-fashioned interiors with exposed stone walls and wood beams in the cosy lounge, a traditional kitchen and a blend of old and new furnishings throughout.
The poolside terrace is wonderful with its terracotta pots of summer flowers, trees, statues and vine-clad walls alongside a handful of sun loungers for relaxation when you are not cooling off in your swimming pool. Sit by the blue shuttered windows as you enjoy an evening apéritif before dining out in local restaurants just a few steps away.
Indeed, this village house is in the very centre of Maussane-les-Alpilles, next door to the bustling Thursday morning market – how wonderful to be able to head there early to pick up a wealth of regional produce and truly soak up the ambience. Café de la Fontaine is only 400m on foot, the perfect spot for a morning coffee on the shaded terrace overlooking the pretty fountain and church.
Meanwhile, food lovers should book a table at Le Bistrot du Paradou, just 1.6km away, to experience its highly regarded daily menu, and don’t miss the excellent restaurants and markets in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Arles, two artistic towns so easily reached within half an hour.
Enjoy walks, horse rides and cycle rides passing endless olive groves, forests and limestone peaks as you explore the landscapes of Les Alpilles. Golf lovers can tee off at nearby Domaine de Manville, not far from the picture-perfect perched village of Les Baux-de-Provence, only 3.5km away and one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa En Terre CuiteVilla en Terre Cuite is for guests who wish to experience authentic village life – the historic house is set in the middle of Maussane-les-Alpilles, a bustling Provençal village in Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park.
The house backs on to a square with shady plane trees where locals play boules. This is also the home of the traditional weekly market on a Thursday morning – just step out of your historic village home and you will find yourself surrounded by all the sights and sounds of the market, a great way to pick up regional produce and soak up the lively ambience.
Maussane-les-Alpilles’s other village square, around 400m away, is a pleasant spot for a morning coffee or meal out on a café or restaurant terrace overlooking the fountain and church. There is a selection of little shops in the village, including a bakery, butchers and grocery store (large supermarkets are in Saint-Rémy or Saint-Martin-de-Crau). Maussane-les-Alpilles (alongside nearby Mouriès) is known to produce some of the finest extra virgin olive oil in France.
Food lovers note that the tiny village of Paradou (1.6km) is a short distance away – book ahead to enjoy the daily set menu at Rick Stein’s beloved Le Bistrot du Paradou. Saint-Rémy (11km) and Arles (18km) are also loved for their excellent restaurants and atmospheric markets as well as art galleries, Van Gogh trails and historic sites (especially Arles’ Roman arena).
Closer to home, Les Baux-de-Provence (4km) is classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ – head out early to explore the medieval perched village and château before the day-trippers arrive. A little further afield, Eygalières (18km) is another picture-perfect village in Les Alpilles so loved for its charming houses, cafes, Friday morning market and gastronomic restaurants including Michelin starred Maison Hache.
