Experience the relaxed art de vivre in Provence at this charming French house with private swimming pool set in vast grounds just over 2km from the pretty village of Pernes-les-Fontaines with its weekly market and fountains.
Villa Fourmi has been designed to welcome groups of friends or families who are seeking a great sense of space both inside and out across two wings of the house. The main part features a handsome lounge and dining area with wood-beamed ceiling and fireplace leading through to a brilliantly equipped kitchen. There’s also TV lounge and library allowing plenty of room to unwind alongside three bedrooms upstairs, two with their own bathroom.
The second wing of the house (with two en suite bedrooms) is more contemporary in style with a slightly quirky nature. Active guests will appreciate the fitness room with gym equipment
The grounds are vast with olive trees, lavender, agapanthuses and other sights and scents of Provence. Find a sunny spot in the front of the blue-shuttered house by the cacti or relax beneath the ancient shady trees so typical of this part of southern France. The heated swimming pool is wonderful for warm summer days at home. Meanwhile, embrace the rustic charm as you dine al-fresco with family and friends or take a stroll across the extensive garden.
Drive along the cypress-tree lined driveway and within 2.5km you will find yourself in the heart of Pernes-les-Fontaines, a traditional Vaucluse village famed for its ancient fountains and lovely weekly market showcasing a wealth of fruit and vegetables grown in local farms. Other gems of the area include the gorgeous village of Saint-Didier and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, a characterful town so loved for its canals, antique stores and Sunday morning brocante.
A little further afield, there’s the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon, the foothills of Mont Ventoux, the vineyards of the Rhône valley as well as the perched villages of the Luberon – this is a fantastic base for exploring the many beautiful parts of Provence.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa FourmiSet in expansive grounds and reached by a long tree-lined driveway, Villa Fourmi is set just off the main road that connects Pernes-les-Fontaines (2.3km) and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (9.5km), meaning easy access to many wonderful parts of Provence. The historic city of Avignon is around half an hour by car.
There’s restaurants, a small supermarket and shops in Pernes-les-Fontaines, a traditional Vaucluse village. Following the fountain trail is a lovely way to discover the cobbled lanes of this characterful village (there are 40 to find) and don’t miss the main Saturday morning market that showcases a wealth of products including fruit and vegetables grown across the surrounding farmland. There is also a smaller Wednesday evening Farmer’s market from April October.
Other gems of this area include the characterful village of Saint-Didier (7km), perfect for lunch out beneath a shady plane tree, and medieval Venasque (13.5km), classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in the foothills of Mont Ventoux. The afternoon Farmer’s market in nearby Velleron (4.5km) is another authentic Provençal experience.
A famous brocante takes place in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue on a Sunday morning but it’s an enchanting town to explore on any day of the week with its café terraces by the river, waterwheels and antique shops. Meanwhile, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (14km) is a paradise for outdoor adventurists with its hiking, tree-top adventures (near Lagnes) and canoeing/kayaking opportunities.
Elsewhere, spend the day visiting the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon (25km), sample wines across the Rhône valley vineyards and fall in love with the perched villages of the Luberon – Gordes (26km), Ménerbes (26km) and Roussillon (34km), for example, are a fine day out in spectacular surroundings.
