Overview
Visit wine châteaux, Michelin starred restaurants and idyllic villages during your stay at Villa Luberon Sud, a delightfully restored farmhouse with the most glorious views of the Luberon landscapes.
This wonderfully restored Provençal mas exudes character and charm with its traditional stone walls, wood beamed ceilings and traditional décor. The open-plan lounge has French windows opening to both the north and south facing terrace allowing shady relaxation at any time of day. The living space leads through to the most charming kitchen with original features alongside modern appliances. Enjoying breakfast on the east terrace as the sun rises is an especially memorable experience.
Up to 10 guests can stay across the five bedrooms including a romantic master double with an open-plan bathroom and gorgeous terrace overlooking the Luberon countryside. Indeed, thanks to the Villa Luberon Sud’s hilltop setting, the panoramic vistas around the domaine are superb.
Within the vast gated grounds there are so many places to sit and while away your time, perhaps with a glass of AOC Luberon from a local vineyard. The summer kitchen is such an atmospheric spot for al-fresco meals with loved ones by the pizza oven whilst the rustic grounds add to the Provençal charm. There’s no doubt you will also spend long afternoons in the swimming pool, close to the pool house with its handy shower and WC.
When you are ready to head exploring, start off in hilltop Ansouis just 4km away, officially classified in France as a ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and home to an impressive château, lovely weekly market and a Michelin starred restaurant. There’s another Michelin starred establishment in nearby Cucuron, a picture-perfect village with its tree-lined bassin, whilst much-loved Lourmarin is a further gem of this part of Provence.
Then there’s walking, cycling and hiking past vineyards, almond trees and olive groves, as well as canoeing along the Durance River. Visit yet more perched village of the Luberon, admire the Saturday morning market in Apt or even spend the day soaking up the Provençal ambience of Aix-en-Provence, only half an hour from your Luberon countryside home.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa Luberon SudIn the southern Luberon, this traditional Provençal villa is set within 7000m2 of gated grounds almost equidistant between the gorgeous village of Ansouis and the market town of Pertuis. Marseille Airport (52km) is less than an hour away or arrive via the fast train from Paris/Lille to Gare d’Aix en Provence TGV (42km).
The villa is set off a country road only 300m from the main road connecting Ansouis (4km) and Pertuis (5km). It’s fantastic being so close to the great range of amenities in and around Pertuis including a large supermarket as well as restaurants and shops in the old quarter. Look out for festivities and events throughout the summer and experience the bustling market on a Friday morning all year round.
Ansouis is officially classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ alongside Lourmarin (14km). Hilltop Ansouis enjoys such a picturesque setting surrounded by a sea of vineyards – there are some excellent wine châteaux to visit across this area. The village’s Église Saint-Martin d'Ansouis is where the wedding scenes were set in ‘Manon des Sources’ and the Château d'Ansouis is also impressive (guided tours can be arranged). Meanwhile, potter around the old lanes of the village appreciating charming houses and flowers, before stopping off for a bite to eat at a café or restaurant. There is a colourful market on a Sunday morning and keen gastronomes note that the village is home to the Michelin starred restaurant, La Closerie.
Cucuron (9km) is also so pretty, especially by its tree-lined bassin with café terraces and old plane trees. The Tuesday morning market is lovely and there is another Michelin starred restaurant, La Petite Maison de Cucuron.
Meanwhile, visitors flock to picture-perfect Lourmarin (15km) with its enchanting lanes filled with pavement cafes, little shops, galleries and restaurants. Events and festivities often take place at Château de Lourmarin just on the edge of the village. Lourmarin’s market is especially photogenic and takes place on a Friday morning.
This part of Provence is loved for its cycling opportunities and walking/hiking trails passing endless vineyards, olive groves and orchards (almonds are grown in the area). Further south, there are water-based activities along the Durance River or closer to home you can swim in L’Étang de la Bonde (5km) in the height of the summer. The nearest tennis courts are in Pertuis whilst golf enthusiasts will appreciate the 18-hole course at Golf Du Luberon (26km).
Other iconic perched villages of the Luberon are further north such as Roussillon, Bonnieux, Ménerbes and Gordes, all within a 45-minute drive. The attractive town of Apt (13km) hosts the Luberon’s largest market on a Saturday morning, a great way to pick up a wealth of local delights.
For another brilliant day out, consider driving to Aix-en-Provence (28km) to admire its historic architecture, art galleries, museums and atmospheric café terraces across this romantic and captivating town in Provence so loved by Cézanne.

Region
With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.
Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.
Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.
To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.
Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.
The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesGuests staying at Villa Luberon Sud with young children will appreciate the fact that the swimming pool is enclosed. Furthermore, it’s lovely spending quality time with your family enjoying leisurely meals in the outdoor kitchen with its traditional pizza oven.
It is handy being less than a 10-minute drive from the bustling town of Pertuis with a good range of amenities including bowling, tennis, an indoor swimming complex, a pumptrack and a cinema (with occasional English films with subtitles).
Meanwhile, there’s canoeing and kayaking along the Durance River, a seasonal inflatable water park and other activities at Lac de Peyrolles south-east of Pertuis as well as summer swimming at nearby Étang de la Bonde. The Luberon region also offers beautiful walks, cycling routes for varying abilities and horse-riding opportunities.
A little further afield, other family attractions include the animals at Zoo Barben (40km), the two theme parks Parc Grimmland (25km) and Le Village des Automates (38km) and tree-top adventures at Le Royaume des Arbres – Charleval (29km).

Flabbergasting view
Our stay was great, the house is really fantastic, with a lot of shadowy and sunny spaces. The outdoor kitchen is a stunning place.
Equipment is really complete, from really a lot of dishes, glasses, different coffee makers, to little things like - really enough kitchen towels, product for the dishwasher etc etc.
The owner is extremely available and helpful, friendly, sympathetic - in one word great.
The house and the whole place around is really clean ....
Flabbergasting view.
Everything amazingly great. -
Wonderful Week
We had a truly wonderful week at Villa Luberon Sud! The owners were there to meet us and gave us plenty of information about the villa and so we did not need them for the rest of the week. The owner kindly gave me her phone number just in case I needed anything. The villa is furnished to a very high standard and was very clean when we arrived. We spent most of our time in the pool and eating in the fabulous outdoor kitchen- it was exactly what we needed! The house is very well equipped and the indoor and outdoor showers were very much appreciated. The comfy seats on the terrace were used every evening as we enjoyed an after dinner drink. The location was perfect for us as we used our car to travel around the beautiful villages and towns of The Luberon. Every morning we picked up fresh croissants and bread from the boulangerie at Ansouis and sat on the east terrace facing the morning sun to eat our breakfast. We have had the best family holiday ever thanks to the amazing Villa Luberon Sud! We hope to return in a couple of years - thank you so much!

A Second Home
Our stay was indeed very relaxed and delightful. To us and our children and grandchildren, it feels like a 'second home' coming back after 4 years. We love this "Mas", and the owners are so pleasant and helpful. We will definitely come back in a few years and hope to find both in the same good health and spirit as today!

Delightful
We enjoyed every minute of our stay in Villa Luberon Sud. The villa is absolutely delightful and spacious with wonderful views from every angle. Great care has been given to the furnishings. It is set in lovely grounds with a long gated drive. The house is complemented by a fabulous outdoor kitchen/dining space which we used most nights. The swimming pool was delightful and well maintained. The owners were extremely welcoming and helpful and were available at a few minutes notice when we had minor problems. Both kitchens were extremely well equipped. All the linen and towels including pool towels and robes were well presented. We would certainly hope to return in the future.

We recommend this villa!
Good location for tours, hiking and biking, nice views, a lot of space and what was very good for us with 2 small children was the fence around the pool. We loved the pizza oven, but there are many good restaurants all around though! We surely do recommend this villa!

We hope to be back soon!
Our own driveway, how romantic to arrive like that! We stayed for 4 weeks in September/October and loved all of it... Can’t think of one negative thing, we hope to be back soon! All the best to you!

Wonderful
Our holiday at Luberon-Sud was really wonderful. We received a warm welcome from the owner and her son. The villa is nicely located on a hill which provides for beautiful views over the valley and the hills of Luberon. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The absolute highlight is the fully equipped outdoor kitchen. We loved having breakfast at Volpert in Ansouis. We have recommended this villa already to multiple friends and we plan to come back.

We enjoyed every minute
We only have positive feedback on the house and the property. It was really fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The owner was a very warm and helpful person. We could not ask for any better place to stay and a nicer owner. The outdoor kitchen was a great place to spend time and cook our meals. The property was well maintained and delicately furnished. We all hope to come back some day. Thanks to you during the process of renting this property, which has been a positive experience all the way.
